Metroid 4 Prime: Beyond | New Trailer

I think it's because the prime series concept belongs in the GameCube era. Exploration and traversal of a complex map is overall better in 2d. They've went as far as they could with those 3 games and it's why it looks underwhelming for a fourth installment by playing it safe. Hopefully, I am wrong.

It clearly looks worse than MP Remastered, the textures in particular. Which makes sense, because it's clearly a more expansive game, so something has to give.
It's clearly better than MP Remastered in many ways, from models, assets, polycount, geometries, lightings, physics, and etc.

MP Remastered looks gorgeous but still flat in many departments as it still used the old models as a base.

It doesnt matter if you spend 10 years developing a game if youre still developing it for a 2015 tablet processor.

Hopefully the switch 2 version looks a bit better.

Great trailer... but I hate this f*cking purple in everything trend. Everything is purple now 🤮

Metroid used purple long before everything else.

Seriously though, normal neogaf users technical knowledge about graphics are much worse than resetera lol

How is the game at N64, GameCube, PS3 level graphically? It's pretty much the best-looking Switch game.

Anytime GAF calls something a PS3 game I take it as compliment.

I'm honestly surprised this wasn't going to be an exclusive Switch 2 launch title. I hope this doesn't suggest that the new console's launch will come later than expected, in summer or perhaps even fall.

We can see Nintendo's reluctance to let go of the Switch and enter the next generation, but we all know how difficult it is for consoles champions to have a repeat season. The obly one to ever have succeeded was PlayStation 2. And? Let's be honest, Sony had a couple very unique advantages that will never be replicated ever again.

Seems pretty clear that the lack of release date is because it's cross-gen. But I still think it's first half this year. We've waited long enough. They've taken long enough

Game looks decent(not crazy amazing but proper) considering we talking switch here, aka handheld that even in docked mode is 3x weaker from xbox one, that was considered underpowered even bak on its launch, holidays 2013 :)

It looks amazing in pictures, bad in the trailer. Not sure why that is, but if it is the same quality as MP:R I'm beyond fine.

I think they showed a little something different and def more puzzle (Zelda like) stuff which I'm happy about. The enemies do need more recoil, but I'm not really playing Metroid for combat. I am happy we'll see something added like the abilities, and jumping through time is very zelda.

Let's see the next trailer next week and decide.

I'm clearly so far out of the demo for this, but I clicked on it anyway. Wow, what happened here? This is the state of AAA Nintendo gaming now? It's not like it looks bad, it just looks like, well, nothing. If it didn't have the Metroid name attached to it, nobody would care. It looks like one of those games where a developer was given a checklist of things to include and so they did, soullessly - like it was a job for hire, and they did what was asked, but not because anybody really cared about what they were making, other than doing their job (competently, mind you) and getting paid. Someone art directed this, someone wrote a script for this VO, and they hired someone to read the VO. I can't say I expect to hear anything about this game 1 month after it releases. Oh sure, it could be a big fakeout and they are holding back on all the REAL interesting stuff in the game but... why would they do that at this point?

Sorry to go off, I don't mean to poo poo on the game while some others here are obviously excited about another game in this long storied franchise, but if you told little-kid me that the amazing Metroid games which were so incredibly enthralling to me back in the day (NES, GB, SNES) were going to wind up as this uninspired color-by-numbers drivel - meanwhile we live in a world where actual horror sci-fi (Metroid started there) has gone some interesting places in games & film - I'd be at least disappointed and at most kind of angry, probably.

Anyway, like I said, not for me. Maybe someone else will make that game.

Why don't you guys rip into every other Switch game? This is one of the best looking ones..

Is it because it's a first person shooter? It automatically gets compared to other systems..

I don't give a shit. It looks superb to me and I'm definitely gonna buy it.

Could have harnessed the hype so much better with a more exciting trailer.
Nonetheless it's Metroid Prime and will be glorious.

Insane that Retro Studios' last new game was 11 years ago.
Shame because I loved Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but mismanagement has killed them.

That's a terrible trailer. I don't even now who would approve this, higher up. It looks like an expansion to the earlier games, that came out years ago.

Underwhelming beyond believe. This franchise deserves more.

I agree with those who said that this trailer was kind of mid.

I hope there's a cross-gen version, not only because I think the muddy graphics would look much nicer at a higher resolution, but also because the psychic powers they showed off feel like they would control way more smoothly and precisely with the Switch 2's mouse controls than with gyro.

Because they know this one will absolutely piss all over garbage like Call of Duty, Doom, Halo etc.
