Assassin's Creed: Shadows has been the best-selling video game in the US for each of its first 3 weeks/Ranks#2 YTD trailing only Monster Hunter Wilds

It's AC man, not some new IP no one knows about, brand can still carry the games, even buggy trash like Unity sold well, so I don't see why it would be different this time, Yasuke was the option for the devs to pat themselves on the back about how progressive they are, but there's an audience out there for these game, even tho peak of thre franchise reached with AC4 🤷‍♂️

Ubi saved. Now we can finally get Far Cry 7, 8 and 9. Assassins Creed 9, 10, 11 and 12 plus remakes of Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. Skull and Bones 2 and 3. Watch Dogs 4: Hacker Boogaloo. Praise the lord 🙏

I just found out that Ubi is referencing Spidey 2 in its cover - the color palette is not similar is outright identical.
EDIT: also 2 playable characters, one whit one black in both games, it cannot be coincidence

I don't think Circana would necessarily know number of players anyway. So this is definitely sales (either unit or revenue).

It would be if Naoe was white, but she isn't.

Likely revenue. It's obvious Monster Hunter would outperform this given how much that game sold. He didn't provide details on how this compares to Valhalla, so for now all we know is that it's selling well going up against nothing notable.

As always, this imbelice sharing only enough information to start a flame war without any given context. If this game was so successful, believe, Ubisoft would scream it.

Good catch

Although this isn't necessarily unique

you'll see it with Blu-ray or movie covers too. I guess they're just trying to trigger recognition by imitating whatevers popular

...and yet when I hear everyone cry, it's about Nintendo. Cry about this. Weep for our future.

To think of the gall it would take to whine to me about Nintendo prices while playing AC Shadows that was a paid copy. The arrogance. The condescension.

To think , the backdrop to the Switch 2 debacle is a bunch of Nintendo haters laid up playing the wokest game ever to release, driving it up the charts and paying full price to play it, complaining about games they will never play on consoles they will never own.

You are laid up playing full priced paid AC Shadows and IN SOME CASES LITERALLY CRYING about a new Metroid, DK, Mario Kart, Bloodborne, Hollow Knight, and Hades game. Let that sink in.

Agreed, we just know it did better than Civ VII and KCD2.

Good call on KCD2. I keep forgetting that one. We do know that sold well.

Did Civ 7 sell well? I assume it underperformed to some extent, but that might be my bias talking.

Some people are going to be so mad over this lmao

IVe stopped playing about a week ago but it was fun for awhile, now we wait till its a 20$ gold edition

Dude you are the worst gatekeeper ever, go away.

With your stupid "AC Shadows isnt a REAL game" crap while you can't wait to spend another 90 euro's on Mario Kart.

He mentions "best-selling" so I'm not sure why people would convert the context to "players" in the first place. It's clearly sales.

Played for 15 hours and couldn't force myself any further. The fact that some people are cheering for this game even though the story is truly shitty is worrying in my opinion. It's as if they've completely forgotten what makes a story good and compelling. Just blind them with high-quality graphics and that's it.

Sad times.

Who is cheering?

The story is better than any of the recent AC games. The gameplay is better than any recent AC games.

It's a step in the right direction. They still have far to go.

whew! that was a close one. saw the thread title, & i thought for a second there we were actually gonna get a 'copies sold' figure. as you were...

Where's the goal post at now, boys?

To be fair, there's been like 3 really good AC stories. Just 'okay' is fine enough for now. It's something to build on.

Now can we please add a disclaimer to Steam CCU posts explaining that it never paints the full picture for multiplatform releases? Especially those available for free or at a discounted rate on other storefronts.

Played the game for 15,16 hours in recent days (still haven't played with Yasuke, other than tutorial) and really liked it and can't wait for more.
We still need more information, but it seems AC Shadows is selling great. Don't forget that Monster Hunter Wilds isn't a normal game, but Capcom's "fastest selling game of all time".

We'll have some figures/indication during Ubisoft's Q1 earning calls (which ended two weeks ago and takes 1 month to prepare)

70 hours and I am still having fun. The world is amazing, the building mechanics are addictive, the combat is really good (Yasuke rules) and the stealth is awesome. Yes the story is not that great but its still a solid title and fun to play

I have zero love towards anything AC and Ubisoft as whole but like or not people are free to enjoy what they want to enjoy.

Are people only allowed to like games that you like?

Some extra info.

The top three by copies sold on PlayStation was very tight. Assassin's Creed Shadows came in on the top spot, with 1.2 million copies sold. In terms of other high-profile 2025 launches, Monster Hunter Wilds took the #3 spot with 1.0 million. But this is a technicality.

The top 10 is for March copies sold, but Monster Hunter Wilds launched on February 28, when it had already sold 1.3 million copies on PS5. By the end of March, Monster Hunter had sold another 1.2 million copies on top of that. So the current total today sits at 2.6 million copies sold on PS5 — more than double Assassin's Creed Shadows' number.

We'd like to note, though, that Assassin's Creed Shadows is no disaster — nor is it a smash hit. It is selling OK. And we expect a long tail for the game, with an eventual Switch 2 release.

Again, Ubisoft's fire sales across the month across all platforms are likely part of a strategy to boost its revenues for the quarter and fiscal year — especially given recent news around structural changes across the company and Assassin's Creed Shadows not being the silver bullet Ubisoft needs.

Assassin's Creed Shadows, despite being part of a major franchise, shows a weaker performance – possibly due to franchise fatigue, a lack of presence on Steam, mixed fan sentiment, and stiff competition. Shadows lacks any sharp spike, with no clear breakout moment. It did far better on PlayStation though
