Microsoft: ROG Xbox Ally Will Play All Games Available For PC – Including PlayStation’s Games

We agree on a lot around here, but definitely not on this.

Just using myself as an example where "Not Everyone Who Plays _____ is the Same", I am a Series X owner, I love my Series X, my most-played console, and I couldn't care less about Halo nor does anything else you are saying apply to me.
So then he wasn't talking about you. It was pretty clear the types of fan he was talking about.

I have obtained photographic evidence of Dr. Wilkinson Dr. Wilkinson at Xbox fanfest:

Any PC can play Sony games, that's why their platform is more dispensable than ever and why I sold my PS5. There is no difference for Rog Ally in this regard.

Eh, you entered the thread with this (as if you speak for all "PCMR"):

And this (where it's heavily implied that you thought you would have the ability to play/access your old Xbox library on this device, in fact you make reference to "all" your Xbox One library):

Why else would you bring up your Xbox One library? You claim to be "PCMR" but are suddenly concerned about having access to an Xbox library.

I really don't understand why you're twisting yourself in knots over this after you were quite clearly corrected on your assumptions.

As has been mentioned multiple times, if all you want to do is play your PC games then you can already do that on any windows PC device that already exists. So unfortunately yes, you were going gaga over something that you could already do when it comes to game library access.
What!? I implied my entire Xbox library by talking about PCMR? I don't follow. At best you aren't interpreting my words correctly...at worst you are desperately trying to find a way to justify your previous posts, which would be just sad, dishonest and makes me not interested in a conversation if it's not had in good faith.

I only mentioned the xbox library because it was brought up to me like I already said. I was responding to someone and learning about that feature or lack thereof apparently. I wasn't implying anything.

I don't think Jiggs is about that receipts lifestyle.

Sigh...

It's all in my previous reply to you (which you quoted) and laid out very clearly. I'm not going to repeat myself.

I don't think Jiggs is about that receipts lifestyle.

Clearly not, but he's attempting plausible deniability in the very same thread which he made his statements in.

One, don't call me Jiggs. Where the hell did the extra G come from.

Secondly, apparently I am about the receipts...because I took the time to look back and even further explain. You can check the edited post if you wish, but at this point I don't really think you have an interest in actually understanding.

Sorry dude. Meant no offense.

I really don't know why you're going on this crusade to try and trash people. Everyone has known it was going to be a PC for over a year. Every time PS ports a game to PC, I was thinking that is a game I could potentially play in the future. I made a thread over a year ago asking for advice on pre-built PC options and decided to wait to see the MS version to compare cost. It'll be a PC either way, either a 3rd party one or a MS made one from the surface team. Over and over we've said that all that matters is the app; the windows lite software portion which will make any PC feel more like a console, and the forward compatibility efforts. No one is being cultish at all. People are weighing the options of moving to PC and using the MS big screen mode. Everyone's said this the whole time.

People are noting that they can take part of their Xbox library to PC now through Play Anywhere (hopefully more to come), load it into a big screen mode that looks like an Xbox UI, and also use the other stores that have games they previously couldn't play on Steam, Epic, GoG, including PS games. That's it. The only reason this thread exists is because every time this has come up for the last 16 months someone always chims in to say the PS won't ever allow that.
Realistically if you want decent bang for your $, MS isn't going to do that. Surface laptops have always been pricey and underpowered for what they deliver.

If you build a PC, that will work out a lot better vs whatever MS produces. You can even find pre-builts for a decent price sometimes (need to watch part selection) or get Microcenter to put one together.

Hell, a gaming laptop on sale is going to be a better bet. The only time folks should be getting handhelds is a "companion" device, IMO, especially considering ones for what likely will be $1K+.

Yep. eGPU's are not worth the money or aggravation. Especially not with the overhead hit of USB 4. If you like to tinker and experiment then oculink eGPUs are the best bet, but we are talking about people replacing their Xbox with Rog "Xbox" Ally. Hilarious dodge.
Yep, and there are bugs with eGPUs, on both Windows and Linux. It's not worth it most of the times except for very specific use cases.

Most folks should just get a laptop if they need some sort of portability.

Am I reading this right? You never wanted a ROG Ally, but now you want one because it has an Xbox sticker on it?

But right below that you admit it doesn't run Xbox games and it's just a PC. So I'm confused why the Xbox branding would mean anything ...
I'll answer just so I can keep quoting this post until the end of time when others talk about how it's just a Xbox sticker.

Spot any differences?

Designwise it's quite obviously more than a sticker.

But the real difference is what you see on the screens here.

The regular ROG Ally use Windows.

With this new "Xbox" Ally they unveiled this new mode, where they throw you right into the games library in a new full screen no Windows nonsense gaming mode.

And it changes everything.

It's essentially like what you have on Steam Deck but you can hold the Xbox button to swap between launchers.

We still need to see how well it hides Windows pop-ups and driver installs etc but going by the unveil it's exactly what was needed. Hopefully they spread it out so regular Windows users can use this as well. I want that experience on the living room PC.

Yeah, I installed Bazzite on my Rog Ally X because I didn't like Windows on a handheld. I'll give the new Windows version out when comes to the older models.

It is more powerful than ROG Ally. In fact it is possibly the strongest handheld now. So it is fair to say it might the best way to play those Playstation 1st party games like God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon etc in portable form

It's not out yet so we'll see where it stands at launch, but even the regular Ally is good performancewise so it should be a nice device. It'll be interesting to see emulation performance. And if all apps can go from fullscreen to fullscreen through the Xbox button and new UI. If they can hide the Windows desktop completely then it'll be a sweet PC handheld.

So PlayStation gets Xbox games, and Xbox gets PlayStation games, but only if you buy a handheld..

"Play games anywhere". How do I continue my copy of God of War on my Xbox Series X
The same way you continue your copy of god of war on pc.

Indeed. I often play Playstation 1st party games like God of War Ragnarok or Spider-Man 2 on the Steam Deck in the toilet, so I don't think this Xbox Ally handheld will have any issue.

I won't knock every teamgreen member, but a lot of them are celebrating this crap like the second coming. As if it wasn't possible to play sony games on a device before.

The most hilarious thing is, the same people who cried over the ps5 pro's price tag can't wait to buy this thing just to show playstation fans that they can play their games on a "xbox" device.

I mean, wouldn't it be cheaper and a better experience to just buy a ps5, which plays them natively lol.

The same way you continue your copy of god of war on pc.
But if you only have a handheld and a console you can only play the Playstation game on the handheld and not your console. Where every other game can be played on both

Yes. Exactly. You can only play your copy of god of war on PlayStation. If you want to play it on pc, you have to buy a second copy and start the game from scratch.

Why do so many posters find it hard to believe anyone owning an Xbox isn't a crazy idiot?

Am I not allowed to enjoy the Series X?

Or look forward to a new handheld (although I get the discussion around PC not Xbox)

Meanwhile there are as many PS and Nintendo crazies, Demigod gets away Scot free for years 😂

It will be great when Wukong, RE 9 or GTA 6 releases on Xbox (console) but won't be playable on this new device until you buy the Windows Store version again (if it gets released there).

Sad Sony fanboy, no need to be upset that I do whatever I want with my consoles and money

How is it that the most hardcore of bootlicking fanboys are always the ones to call others "fanboys".

Know what ? you, like others , are one of the reasons why this brand/console has failed, always on the defensive, not acknowledging a company's faults, always being OK with incredibly mediocre products, eating up BS PR after BS PR, never spending a dime on actual games (the Gamepass effect®) and yet, you're the ones always barking the loudest 😁

At this point, someone would have to explain how's that even possible, oh well, return to your usual march guy.

Edit : still trying to figure out who's alt-account you are

Oh kid, am I a hardcore fanboy? You're the one who posts your laughing emojis on every post of mine, attacking me personally and suggesting that I'm some banned alt (I've even seen you do this to other members too).

You're talking as if I care about Microsoft's decisions with Xbox, I only use Game Pass and play their games on PC, so the news that they're investing in optimizing Windows for PC is great for me, so why do you want me to criticize something that benefits me?

One day this irrational anger you have when I say that I sold my PlayStation to play Sony games on PC will pass, you don't need to cry on every post of mine or anyone else's.

Steam Deck is a completely different device though, you have to have experience with ROG Ally to know what to expect from this device, afaik performance is not always better on the Ally.

But it'll be a powerful Ally so those who already like that device should get something even better here.

The big deal here imo is that you boot into a fullscreen gaming focused controller-only multi launcher UI. That's the real launch. And that's a multi device update from my understanding so it could grow into something really nice for us all no matter how you play PC games today. Takes the good stuff from console gaming with the controller UI and the good stuff from PC gaming with the open platform multi store capabilities.

I just want to know how it works when switching launchers. It needs to quickly remap buttons while still keeping that Xbox button constant through all apps so you don't lose what is essentially Alt-Tab.

How do you do that if you run an emulator of 360 games for example where the Xbox button pop up the guide?
Press - Guide
Hold - Alt+Tab
?

Hands on reports are needed on that.

But Microsoft is banking on this becoming a success so once they push that out to previous Windows handhelds, plus hopefully regular Windows PCs, things should improve greatly for PC gamers in general with lots of updates based on community feedback.
Make your voices heard once it's out!

Sony could release a PS6 Lite alongside the PS6 and sell a zillion units. They're definitely not concerned about Xbox doing a PC partnership deal with a PC company. Sony has bigger concerns which is figuring out how to launch a live service game that isn't a dumpster fire. Moving hardware isn't their issue.
Like the anual MLB? GT7? Helldivers 2? Destiny 2 is still doing decent numbers. The future Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls (probably the most hyped title announced last week). Im sure they will be fine.

Ignore em. There are several fanboys who flame react to anything that cuts Xbox down and laugh react anything positive. This handheld is looking like an awesome replacement for my aging Steam Deck. What's not to love? Game Pass, Sony games, and all of Steam's library. Godly. The rumored PS handheld will be put on a pedestal on this forum though, even when it will be missing the best thing, unless Sony is allowing it, Steam.

Edit: All the fanboys are awake already! Dedicated to their craft. Hit the gym guys, maybe you wouldn't be so bent out of shape.

Zero self awareness.
...as usual, it's always the same song and dance with peeps like you.

"Kid", "You sad fanboy" and yet, cries wolf whenever he gets mentioned/gets called out, you can't make this shit up, again, z-e-r-o self awareness my guy, it's actually amazing.

PS: You are definitely an alt, the fact that you get so...offended just by stating it kinda proves it.

Anyway, as you were, continue with the baiting shit and ad hominems.

Cheers

Only this fandom would act happy over potentially losing access to over %80 of their existing owned digital copies of games in exchange for delayed access to Playstation games that they could have gotten at any point they wanted whether on Playstation or PC.

I swear I now understand why these execs think they can openly lie on podcasts. They know this is not a serious consumer base with actual demands.

Which fandom and who is acting happy?

What is this shit people are pushing now?

Anyone would think the Series X I bought won't play all my games?

Does a PS5 play PS3 or 2 or 1 for example? (Natively)

I get that MS should be clearer and stop obfuscating. But where are these thousands of Xbots cheering or thinking this will play Xbox natively?

It's like some Hills Have Eyes shit around here and DemiGod is the family father

Nobody celebrated PS5 not getting native PS3/2/1 support, in fact that community actively demands more from Sony in this (as they should). Meanwhile you see the Xbox community on here doing cartwheels over this device that surreptitiously promises to bulldozer their libraries.

You mention your Series X, but what if it breaks or you lose it for whatever reason? What are you going to do when it's delisted from stores and you can't readily buy a replacement?

Let's go even further, what incentive does Microsoft even have to keep your games up when they soon won't be able to sell you anything through that channel anymore? Mark my words, it's going to be the exact same scenario that happened with the XB360 store.

Well like I said, I'm just going to wait and see. Only thing I'm hoping for is that it somewhat resembles Series X. Quiet, not loaded with RGB lights and stupid holographic decals. Easy set up. If they make something good and it's competitively priced, I'm in. Also depends on how much they lean into it but could be a standard set up for devs to optimize for slightly more than usual. If it's wildly overpriced I'll just look for something else. The Windows big screen mode will be available on anything.

These things are not important when you realise we can buy an Asus ROG Ally and play your Playstation games via the Steam store using Xbox buttons assembled by none other than the great Phil Spencer himself.

Take that you pony.
