Apples and Oranges, mate.
PS Portal is a streaming-only device and is advertised as such. This device is not a streaming-only device. It is marketed as a device that can download and play games natively.

And you can download and play all PC games natvely, but you cannot download and play all Xbox games natively.
Lmao it's hilarious really, by now I'm already used to see them boost my reaction score from all sides since I'm on PC with my own wishes for the future.Ignore em. There are several fanboys who flame react to anything that cuts Xbox down and laugh react anything positive. This handheld is looking like an awesome replacement for my aging Steam Deck. What's not to love? Game Pass, Sony games, and all of Steam's library. Godly. The rumored PS handheld will be put on a pedestal on this forum though, even when it will be missing the best thing, unless Sony is allowing it, Steam.
Edit: All the fanboys are awake already! Dedicated to their craft. Hit the gym guys, maybe you wouldn't be so bent out of shape.
Fucking green rats and their power flexesI slapped a big XBOX sticker on the window of my 5090 PC, now it's an XBOX that exclusively plays Balatro. Check mate.

Is it an official sticker or did you resort to pirating it you scum?I slapped a big XBOX sticker on the window of my 5090 PC, now it's an XBOX that exclusively plays Balatro. Check mate.
Someway it feels like the proper place to play sony sequels this days.Indeed. I often play Playstation 1st party games like God of War Ragnarok or Spider-Man 2 on the Steam Deck in the toilet, so I don't think this Xbox Ally handheld will have any issue.
Got it through game pass.Is it an official sticker or did you resort to pirating it you scum?
Its hard to put the genie back in the bottle
Here is the link for the interview if someone wants to find his response, I don't care for him so not wading through his PR that he was just coached on

I will just drop this here because this image is a modern classic rofl.
"Ignore em" and then proceeds to do the exact opposite

I understand your point (it's about BC though), but this one is different. To be fair to them, a Series X can't play all the games that were launched for 360, despite a lot of them being made available with the backwards compatibility programme. ...And that's an Xbox.
I've no doubt this will become the battle line though for warriors online however.

Pink Floyd was ahead of its time (this is from "The Wall" movie, and if you haven't seen it, you should):
FUDIt is more powerful than ROG Ally. In fact it is possibly the strongest handheld now. So it is fair to say it might the best way to play those Playstation 1st party games like God of War, Spider-Man, Horizon etc in portable form
This is a good point. But it also underscores why unifying PC stores and the Xbox store on one device is important. Go get the game that you want on the store that offers it cheapest (Steam, Battle, Gog Epic, ...) and play it with the same Xbox experience on the go. And if it's an XGS game, play it day one on game pass on the same device. Plus play all the 3rd party stuff that comes to game pass without needing to buy anything. With the same UI. That sells it to me and in the words of Jaffe, "if you're looking for a handheld and you're not getting this one, I don't know what to tell you".I understand your point (it's about BC though), but this one is different.
- The idea here is that if you bought a game on the Xbox console, you can't play it on Xbox Rog Ally (unless it's a title with PlayAnywhere enabled).
- If you bought a game on Steam/Epic, you can play it on Xbox Rog Ally (it does not have to be PlayAnywhere).
That's because it's a PC (Rog Ally has always been a PC) with Windows 11 running on it.
That sells it to me and in the words of Gaffe, "if you're looking for a handheld and you're not getting this one, I don't know what to tell you".
Who is Gaffe? There is nothing here that elevates this one handheld above all others in my mind. No idea how this Gaffe guy says that without knowing the price.
Edit: Do you mean Jaffe?
But all other PC handhelds do this. For instance, you have an Asus Rog Ally or a Legion Go, then you can download the game from Steam / Epic / Xbox Play Anywhere. You can also run Game Pass. This is a good point. But it also underscores why unifying PC stores and the Xbox store on one device is important. Yes, Jaffe my bad. And come on just the ergonomics alone set it apart. Never mind the hardware specs and the stripped down windows version that it will come with. I agree that price will be criticalWho is Gaffe? There is nothing here that elevates this one handheld above all others in my mind. No idea how this Gaffe guy says that without knowing the price.

Other devices do not streamline my library across stores. I have to go get my games from the store where I bought them. They also boot to the windows desktop. They don't feel like holding an xbox controller and so on..But all other PC handhelds do this. This new device does not offer anything new other than the UI - which is not a USP as every device offers a different UI anyway.
Streamline is a good way to put it and if someone hasn't gotten into handhelds yet it might help tempt someoneOther devices do not streamline my library across stores. The truth is there are many unique aspects if one is willing to acknowledge them.

I take it you won't ditch yours but let's not generalise. That being said, if I had just bought a handheld, I would probably just wait for the new Windows CE to come to all handhelds and ride it out until my hardware can no longer play the latest games before upgrading to the Xbox Ally X or to the in house Xbox handheld if it really exists and has come out by then.Streamline is a good way to put it and if someone hasn't gotten into handhelds yet it might help tempt someone
Its not a great selling point for anyone to ditch any handheld they already own

They don't boot to the Xbox UI with my entire Xbox play anywhere library. Even if you want to downplay that, what about the other selling points? Both Rog Ally and Legion Go combine games from other stores into their own UI. Heck, Onexplayer and Aokzoe do that.

This is speculation and fanboy nonsense. Do you think Sony cares that a pc handheld that has access to there games that's another piece of pc portable hardware for them to sell games on. It's not like there games are on gamepass or anything. What did Sony do? Or is this based on speculation that Sony could block Xbox games? There is zero evidence that they plan to do this.
I tend to consider you someone with some judgment and logic and avoid double standard.Nobody celebrated PS5 not getting native PS3/2/1 support, in fact that community actively demands more from Sony in this (as they should). Meanwhile you see the Xbox community on here doing cartwheels over this device that surreptitiously promises to bulldozer their libraries.
You mention your Series X, but what if it breaks or you lose it for whatever reason? What are you going to do when it's delisted from stores and you can't readily buy a replacement?
Let's go even further, what incentive does Microsoft even have to keep your games up when they soon won't be able to sell you anything through that channel anymore? Mark my words, it's going to be the exact same scenario that happened with the XB360 store.

It would just have to do more than have a dedicated button to access Gamepass for me to buy it vs keeping my SteamdeckI take it you won't ditch yours but let's not generalise. you can even get something like Playnite that does that for free and it can download & install from various storefronts (depending on the plug-in support)Both Rog Ally and Legion Go combine games from other stores into their own UI. Heck, Onexplayer and Aokzoe do that.

plus you can have the big box mode boot from launch so you never go into desktop
All the people trashing this question, we literally had people telling us on here over and over that Sony would step in and stop this. I read this probably 20x at least on here. Here we have a journalist that got access to someone and asked so we could get the answer. And we got it. This means Xbox PC will also load the Xbox Store app, Steam, Epic, Gog, and play anything on it. Tons of people tried to speculate otherwise.
If you guys think it's a stupid question to ask, imagine how stupid it was for the many people on here that didn't even ask the question but stated over and over that Sony would stop it and were completely wrong.
Yeah well….apparently none of that was said. Apparently the new one is that this is not an Xbox hand held….. it's just a hand held device with Xbox branding. Gotta live the gaf.
So I'm guessing that if the next Xbox also can load multiple store fronts, that won't be called an Xbox….but a box with Xbox branding?. Gaf logic
Either way. I'd like to be able to use that OS in my current ally X. I'd also like to see it in the next Xbox. I'd take an ASU's branded condole with an Slit for PCI graphics cards or thunderbolt to add external GPU enclosures.
It objectively does way more than have a new button but hey, the steam deck is a very good device too.It would just have to do more than have a dedicated button to access Gamepass for me to buy it vs keeping my Steamdeck
Maybe I am missing something else about it
Its being done and has been done for years by Asus (and a few others) not Microsoft. This is also an Asus product first and foremost. MS brings a better and optimized OS, thats it for now.
GAF logic: if it is a PC then call it a PC. If the next Xbox is a hybrid then I imagine it will be called a hybrid.
Oh I think the gaf will fill find a way to make it a more complicated answer than it actually is![]()
As a matter of fact - the current handhelds do. If that's one's preference, they can install and Playnite to:Other devices do not streamline my library across stores. Sony still needs to release some games for the PC.
It's Astrobot PC time!
I promise I haven't kept up with the new cycle on this and this is an honest questionIt objectively does way more than have a new button but hey, the steam deck is a very good device too.
