Microsoft: ROG Xbox Ally Will Play All Games Available For PC – Including PlayStation’s Games

Yeah it is a PC with Xbox branding. And a Playstation is a PC with Sony branding. And a Switch is a PC with Nintendo branding.
No!
There are no similarities at all with what Microsoft are doing here.

On your PlayStation and Switch you play PlayStation and Switch games. Not PC games.

On this ROG Xbox Ally you play PC games. Not Xbox games.

You won't be able to play a single of your purchased Xbox console-only games on this device. Not officially at least, might be able to unofficially emulate OG Xbox and Xbox360 games. But that's a different topic.

And they said that there were 1,000 Play Anywhere titles. Meanwhile there are 13,000 games on Xbox Store…

And if streaming makes it an Xbox then PS Portal is a PlayStation.

arm the spirit of handheld gaming they must make better model then maybe i buy back up for main switch 2 buuuuuuut no bug oled goord battery life

Think the whole idea is they assume you will have a gamepass subscription so you'll essentially have access to most Xbox games. If you're buying this thing you would probably want to subscribe to the testament gamepass anyway.

I want it and that's a win for MS since I never wanted a regular ROG Ally.

But they need to stop calling it an Xbox!

It won't run any of our real Xbox games, neither discs nor digital.
It'll just run the PC ports.
That makes it a handheld PC. Not a handheld Xbox like MS and the shills pretend that it is.
Am I reading this right? You never wanted a ROG Ally, but now you want one because it has an Xbox sticker on it?

But right below that you admit it doesn't run Xbox games and it's just a PC. So I'm confused why the Xbox branding would mean anything ...

Xbox fanboys always have this authoritarian behavior, wanting to suppress negative facts about the Xbox.

Always trying to suppress any negative fact about the Xbox on the internet

I remember Dusk Golem lying about Resident Evil on the PS5 that it would be in 1080p but native 4k without problems on the Xbox; all this so that people would stop talking about Craig the Monkey in Halo Infinite

Now they're here with a bunch of meaningless blah blah blah to disguise the fact that it's just a portable PC with an "Xbox" sticker

They want to talk about everything, except for people to mention the consensual fact that it's just a portable PC with Windows and an "Xbox" button to lie that it's an Xbox and the Xbox didn't go bankrupt.

Soon MS will stop manufacturing the Xbox after increasing the price, and Xbox fans will try to say that this, a portable PC with an "Xbox" sticker, is proof that the Xbox still exists and hasn't been discontinued

The Xbox is over, now MS is going to call the Skin for Windows games "xbox" and that's it, it's over. Xbox went bankrupt and lost, it's over.

This post should be pinned at the top of the forum

Well Phil Spencer really really knows how to sell a Rog Ally

It plays PC games published by Sony.

Saying it plays PlayStation games is flat out lying.

Yes, it says that much in the first paragraph of the article in OP.

"Because these handhelds run Windows, you have access to all the games you can play on Windows PCs."

The messaging has been muddied, like google translating something to 3 different languages.

Not wading through the entire video looking for the response but listen to what the "media" guy asks Parris

Would have been nice if the guy didn't cut off before Paris answers the question.

At this point will Xbox team ever do something in any gen of consoles that it isn't fishy ?
Every gen is the same thought "something is not right with this message and/or product"
From bad move controls, to DRM/always online, to series S is more powerful than the ps5 and xbox X is our Pro console, to now this PC is a Console.

This division of MS sure is something special to behold. One thing is for sure.. we will miss their fuck ups once they peace out if it ever happens.

The future of these handhelds is bright. There is some incredible stuff coming down the pike in the next 2-3 years when it comes to mobile processors.

Sure, It would certainly serve as an example of the hypocrisy of a fanboy of one brand trying to teach a lesson to fanboys of another brand because he thinks he's better.... LOL

_-----------------------------------------------------------_
We completed a nice threaf about what can and can't be called Xbox, as if MS's new strategy of calling everything that plays Gamepass or Xcloud "This is and Xbox" is something new. 🙃 We frequently have people here with the "PS5 is an XBOX" meme for the same reason.....

Then, what's truly important and what could be significant in the future isn't what they want to call this handheld, it's what comes with the software... and curiously, that's what's least discussed. 🤔

PS. I'll always find it funny and embarrassing when someone finds themselves in the position and willingness to tell others what's good or not to buy and believe themselves willing to mock other people's purchasing decisions just because they don't agree with their own....

If you're an Xbox console user, part of the Xbox ecosystem, and want a portable or handheld device... the options are there, but unfortunately, one that doesn't allow you to play the catalog of games you've purchased on your Xbox home console isn't available because current technology doesn't allow it. Maybe in the future.

Its hard to put the genie back in the bottle

Here is the link for the interview if someone wants to find his response, I don't care for him so not wading through his PR that he was just coached on

He doesn't answer the question. Starts talking about the fact that you can connect an eGPU to it and play it on your TV "like" a console.

Around 5:40 mark

I was going to reply to Heisen, does this dude parrish not know the term eGPU. Also he didn't clarify that you need a 5090 GPU itself.

I can't stand Parris "the industry changed" just as MS changed. Apparently the whole industry did to. He still wont own up to it either and just tries to brush it off.

Believe he is talking about one of Asus' own XG Mobile eGPUs which cost between $1.5k $2.k last time around. How he went from this replacing your Xbox console to that.....no idea.

Xbox wants this type of messaging

He could have killed it right off the bat and said this is not an Xbox console

And this is coming from me, a known Xbox fanboy

Speaking of, hey Ethos_PS

This is equal parts sad and hilarious when he decides to dodge the question and bring up the eGPU. That comes with a whole host of issues and workarounds that you need to be aware of and I wouldn't really advise anyone other than advanced users even consider it. They just want to bamboozle people at this point, no matter the cost.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.

There is a core contingent of xbox fans for whom this will be fine. It could be an etch-o-sketch with an xbox logo and it would be better than playstation. A handheld with the name is plenty to pull that off. Just need to repeat that it's in fact an xbox enough times. I don't know how many of those can afford it, but the ones who don't will stan anyhow. It can only be a few million people left at this point.

Yep. eGPU's are not worth the money or aggravation. Especially not with the overhead hit of USB 4. If you like to tinker and experiment then oculink eGPUs are the best bet, but we are talking about people replacing their Xbox with Rog "Xbox" Ally. Hilarious dodge.

Its legit cult like

Every platform in every walk of life has zealots but Xbox does in fact live in that lane of rejoicing when their fans pledge their first born child for a new Halo

And that could happen to any fanbase with the kind of outreach and manipulation ms has done for the last 20 years.

Sony could release a PS6 Lite alongside the PS6 and sell a zillion units. They're definitely not concerned about Xbox doing a PC partnership deal with a PC company. Sony has bigger concerns which is figuring out how to launch a live service game that isn't a dumpster fire. Moving hardware isn't their issue.
If you're saying the PS6 Lite is the PS6's XBSS but as a handheld (PSP3/Vita2) instead of a console, I can see your point.

We agree on a lot around here, but definitely not on this.

Just using myself as an example where "Not Everyone Who Plays _____ is the Same", I am a Series X owner, I love my Series X, my most-played console, and I couldn't care less about Halo nor does anything else you are saying apply to me.

I was mainly talking about the ones who go to their fan fests and kiss the Xbox logo on the ground like its worshipped

Not a blanket statement

Initially you talked about games libraries, but now that you've been corrected on that and it's been established that that's going to be itentical to what you can already get (and already have on your existing PC) you suddenly want to talk about all these other reasons why you want the device? Other than the processor which will also be coming to other devices all 4 of the things you listed have already been solved by other devices already on the market and ergonomics are hugely subjective.

P.S. Trying to tell people that have been gaming on windows PC's ~10x longer than you that they are "vehemently against" windows or a device that is quite literally a windows PC isn't it. It's easier to say you simply want something because you're entrenched in the Xbox brand/ecosystem rather than to believe the device is something it's not. First and foremost this is still an Asus device, the armoury crate button is still there for goodness sake.
I sure did, but it was only because you directed me to a previous post of yours saying that people shouldn't be going gaga over this device because it's essentially just like everything else we have today/ That's why I pointed out some of the differences that I'm also interested in that are not on other devices. If you look back at my first post I said "all of my games in one place" I also said that I'm 100% PC, even to the point that I don't really have an Xbox Series library...it's just the games I had from Xbox One because I went to PC in 2018. So no, I wasn't corrected necessarily...I was informed after people ASSUMED I was talking about my entire Xbox library, which I was not. I was open to learn about it in regards to this device because it was brought to my attention. My entire Xbox library was never a consideration.

Also, I don't know or care how long anyone has been on PC. I didn't single any one person out and I definitely wasn't referring to you, so why are you so defensive? Furthermore, if the ROG XBOX Ally isn't your cup of tea...that's cool...that's you. But who are you to say there's nothing to be excited about for others who are entitled to their own opinion?

Eh, you entered the thread with this (as if you speak for all "PCMR"):

All my games in one place, which is all we PCMR folks ever really wanted.

And this (where it's heavily implied that you thought you would have the ability to play/access your old Xbox library on this device, in fact you make reference to "all" your Xbox One library):

I don't think you could play your Xbox library on previous handhelds though right? Like for example, not all my Xbox One stuff would be on a Steam Deck. Most if not all of my PS4 stuff wouldn't have been on Steam Deck because Sony just really started it's PC push this gen.

Why else would you bring up your Xbox One library? You claim to be "PCMR" but are suddenly concerned about having access to an Xbox library.

I really don't understand why you're twisting yourself in knots over this after you were quite clearly corrected on your assumptions.

As has been mentioned multiple times, if all you want to do is play your PC games then you can already do that on any windows PC device that already exists. So unfortunately yes, you were going gaga over something that you could already do when it comes to game library access.
