Improved Switch 1 games on Switch 2

Just finished out Bowsers Fury since I only started it on S1. Super fun and looks great although I dont remember it being that bad on S1. About to play try echoes of wisdom.

Anyone try Trails through Daybreak II? I played the first one on Switch and had a decent time with it, haven't got the second yet but I've heard it was running pretty rough on Switch 1. Can't find anything online.
I haven't tried Daybreak 1, but I did pop in Daybreak 2 to for a bit, but I didn't notice any big improvements...

I just realized some people are using GL and GR to remap jump and/or run in BOTW so they can do both at the same time while also moving the camera...

And at the same time I realized you could remap SL and SR buttons to whatever you want if you like split joycons... WTF, Switch 2 controllers features are hidden game changers.

Dragon Quest 11 gets a big loading boost and locked frame rate. plus again 4k output makes the colors deeper and more vibrant on 4k displays.

Just booted up Forgotten Memories on Switch 2 and HOLY CRAP. This has to be The most impressive indie Switch 1 game on Switch 2!

Here's a screenshot I took using "auto upload" to My Nintendo. (Neat New Switch 2 feature in the settings, if you didn't know)

Yes, that's correct, the game (supposedly) runs at 120fps. It runs incredibly smooth and I have a 120hz TV but not the software to verify fps. If anyone here has this game and can verify fps that would be great
I actually just quoted you so I can look this up later, but I have a counter to that indie game assessment. I just tried out Gory Cuddly Carnage on Switch 2, and it was made by two people. Control a cat on a hoverboard, and on Switch 2, it's as buttery smooth as you'd ever want an avatar in an action game to be. And this game is ALL action! You slaughter zombie unicorn hordes by the dozens, and the bosses are YUGE. Definite recommend. It ran the Switch ragged.

😂 I actually bought that game a while back but held off opening it up until I got Switch 2. I've played it and yes, for 2 people it is extremely impressive! I will say that the cat fur could use an update though (esp now that Switch 2 is out).

However, "Forgotten Memories" has multiple graphical effects that you can toggle on and off and actually had the foresight to include a 120fps setting! The game looks ridiculously good for being an indie game.

I just purchased it and will tinker!

it's kinda silly that Nintendo doesn't just have all the BC run in the SW1 docked mode even in handheld now
I'd assume it has to do with the complications of how docked mode works.

If it ran docked mode S1 games in handheld mode, would it even recognized the joycons? Or turn on at all since the switch enters a pseudo-sleep mode in docked mode

Not to mention there are games rhat function differently when in docked compared to handheld (the pokemon lets go games, for example force you to use a single joycon or the pokeball controller in docked mode. And Skyward sword has a completely different controls set in both modes)

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is now running at 60fps somehow

maybe it used a double buffer vsync with a 60fps lock?
that would mean if it ever dropped below 60fps on Switch 1 it would instantly lock to 30fps.
so could be that it just never hit 60fps on Switch 1 but the potential was always there 🤷

they can't do it by default as some undocked modes had special features like touch input, or in the case of Super Mario Party there were special Minigames that only work undocked.

so they would need to make it a sidebar toggle.
but yes, they should add the option

yeah, I guess, because everyone was sure that it was actually locked to 30, but it obviously wasn't. Same with Hyrule Warriors in Handheld mode.

I hope Metroid Dread gets a higher resolution update. But I doubt it. Seeing that M4 is around the corner.
I hope they patch Metroid Dread with a better soundtrack for Switch 2. 😐

Okay, I'll leave now.

I'm going to be trying out Kingdom Come: Deliverance when this download finishes.
EDIT- HOLY ISH!!!

I mentioned this in the other thread about games that may see an improvement but Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster runs great on Switch 2 from what I have played. I only tested FF3 at the moment as that was my stopping point but I experienced some menu bug / latency that annoyed me so bad I gave up playing the game on Switch but on Switch 2 that issue is gone.

I only have a video of the issue I experience on Switch which you can watch here if you wanna check it out.

When I enter the magic menu the bug occurred, watch closely at the return animations of the player character. After casting blizzard they snap backward instead of turning around. Its brief and you may need to slow the video down to notice it but that was how I knew I triggered the problem. I didn't even have to cast blizzard to trigger it. Just accessing any magic menu cause it. On Switch 2 that problem is gone.

I'm waiting for those Doom titles to get unlocked frames.
They would need both a frames and resolution unlock and that means an update. Don't think they'll be doing that for old games, but who knows.

Has anyone tried Tales of Graces F? I have no reason to think it will it will run al 60fps now since it's hard locked but...

Is anyone else experiencing heat issues with the Switch 2?

On certain games, the console gets extremely hot (almost to the point where it's unholdable for my 6 year old) while in portable mode.

Docking the console instantly cools it down.. I thought at first it may just be on intensive graphical games but it runs fine and cool playing Mario Kart World, but as soon as we start playing Sea of Stars it's like the console goes into overdrive and heats up.

TMNT Splintered Fate (the hadeslike, not the beat em up) seems to run reasonably better on S2 with a better framerate. Hadn't seen that game mentioned yet so wanted to put it out there.

quoting myself from another thread real quick:

SOOOOO... I tried pixel counting (youtube video quality is not great for that, so it's not easy), and at one spot at 8:46 I found an easy to count edge...
txy9wfmz.png

and, uhm. maybe I am miscounting, but I am getting 1800p here
oscrpzia.png

ggd92jct.png

ruler of 30, 25 steps: 30/25 = 0.8333333333333333 * 2160 = 1800

could this be a dynamic resolution up to maybe 1800p?
that edge I counted seems to be pretty clean and the staristepping seems very obvious. so either I completely forgot how to do this or this is way higher than 1440p

EDIT: same 1800p results when looking at the New Donk City shot at 2:46. again 25 steps on a 30 pixel ruler.
v9j4nnao.png

tsg4hzid.png

wwtt8qjy.png

there was another scene inside new donk city, where I only found an edge that was big enough to do a quick 15 ruler wide test, where I got 12 of 15, which would come out at 1728p, but a 15 pixel ruler on a 2160p image isn't really all that accurate. so that scene could also have been 1800p as 1728p is close enogh to estimate that given the other 2 results.

and generally speaking, some parts of this look like FSR1 is in use, as some edges seem "drawn over" so to speak. but that could also just be youtube compression doing whakey stuff.

EDIT2:
yeah, I won't spam more images, but every single time I try counting a somewhat countable edge in the video, I get 1800p. it's always 25 steps on a 30 ruler, or 12 steps on a 15 ruler.
but now I wonder how ElAnalistaDeBits got 1440p here. I miss VG Tech, because VG Tech always also had links to lossless uploads of the exact screenshots they used to count

would you look at that, I was right, it is dynamic 1800p

and that's why ElAnalistaDeBits should not ever be taken seriously. it was super easy to poxelcount their own fucking video and disproof their own claims lol

combine that with the seemingly dynamic 4k I pixelcounted in their Splatoon 3 video,
I think it's safe to say that ElAnalistaDeBits should absolutely from here on out be seen as 100% unreliable and untrustworthy.

they clearly don't even pixelcount the games they test and just guess (badly guess) the resolution.

both Splatoon 3 and Mario Odyssey are insanely easy to pixelcount, to the point where I easily could get the correct resolutions from screenshots of their own low-quality youtube uploads.
now imagine how easy it would be when using a lossless source that they should have access too...
because if they don't then their fps measurements would also be prone to error as these open source tools only work semi-well if the video source is lossless.

played some RE6 in handheld. Its a lot of fun, but there were issues at the start of the chris redfield campaign. Some slowdowns and audio crackling that didn't fully resolve in the open area. Not sure how the rest will run or how it compares to docked mode yet

Man, it's been cold in the area where I live lately, but the console is extremely quiet and cold, I haven't heard the noise of its fan yet.

O played Mario Kart, Fortnite and Splatoon 3.
