How does the Spotting work in this game? Few folks on reddit seem to be saying it auto spots enemies? Is that the case? Not sure if I like the sound of that.

If its anything like before you can have a perk that automaticly spots. If you dont have it then its done manually.

That might be referring to enemies being marked for you as you aim and shoot at them. In those instances only you (and maybe squad?) can see them.

As mentioned above 2042 had some recon specialist that would mark enemies for your team if you shot at them and a different one that would mark enemies that shot at you. It's likely recon will have some sort of similar spotting or marking perk/passive ability.

Talking about this. I remember spotting from previous games. (not 2042 I refunded that never to return). This seems way too strong if its universal.

Preload and start times for Thursday. Do wish it would hurry up, I have huge amounts of down time this week and this will kill 4 days very nicely.

I have a question. I was sent a PS5 code to something called the Pre Alpha Server Performance Test. Unfortunately, my EA account was not liked to my steam and I no longer have my PS5. So, I never tried the older beta.

Does the information at the top automatically mean I'll get another PS5 code? Because I changed my account to link to my steam now.

If the account you signed up for labs is linked to your current Steam account and you received the email then you should be good to go.

I only recently changed it to steam when I saw this email, so it's been after the fact. I hope I get it so I can play early.

Seems to be just part of Recon class

Recon - Aim Spotting. We currently have Recon's Signature Trait as the ability to spot enemies while aiming down sight automatically. This is a Signature Trait that we are actively seeking feedback on within Battlefield Labs and are continually improving.

From that article that cormack12 cormack12 linked above

it doesnt auto spot for everyone, but it will highlight an enemey when you aim over them, if you then click ping/spot itll spot them. scout will auto spot as part of their trait, their other sklill tree will allow to spot players when you hit them

I don't because I like shadows and ambient occlusion to ground the geometry, otherwise it looks like last gen shite.
i remember people were playing 2042 at the beginning with all low settings so they could see clearly across the map with no terrain or trees in the line of sight

As usual ultra and such settings are secondary, but in my experience a mix of medium/high is just fine, especially now in DLSS era to have smooth high fps.
Mainly in for the beta just to test how well it performs given the friendly recommended specs

I do hope the other 5 maps are bigger than the 4 we already saw. We need atleast 3 big maps at launch

This is my biggest concern right now. I haven't played the game but the maps, even the conquest versions, look painfully small with too many narrow chokepoints and not enough opportunities for the sandbox gameplay that BF is known for

Well we will have atleast 1 good CQ map, firestorm :D

The reviewers indicated the that there are bigger maps.

I'm a bit of a BF weirdo I suppose, as I've always really liked the tighter infantry based environments, i.e. smaller maps. I do love the classic massive sprawling melees as well and I'll rinse them for years, but I'd still quite blissfully live in a new BF release that was basically an entire game's worth of BF3 Close Quarters DLC, like ten maps of that shit would suit me down to the ground.

There's a recon perk that autospots.

The debate around spotting in BF tends tl be whethere or not/how long the spot follows the spotted player. Or if it only imdicates where they were at the time of spotting.

I hope they will do theme based seasonal content. Imagine a naval season with naval maps and the return of naval combat. Base is so good here and looks like we dont have to wait a year to get the basic features back to the game like every BF release so they can focus on content this time.

This will blow COD away on Steam at least. The hype is real. Wouldn't be surprised at 500k CCU plus on these beta weekends. Knock off Battlefield Delta Force easily best COD on the platform.

BLOPS6 I dropped during season 3. The core game is good but the maps were below par, not sure how they are right now but I much preferred MWIII. The skins bullshit is also getting out of hand.
Yeah, while I'm playing BO6 I can't even memorise which maps are which from thumbnails.

Yeah and those skins got way out of hand. I feel like it's progressively getting worse every damn season.

I saw a bunch of comments, even on COD main YT account and content for new season that people are beyond excited for Battlefield 6 Open Beta and no skins bullshit. So there is hype.

I'm personally trying it myself when it's out. So I'm giving in.

Team deathmatch got me curious. Since I play online with some friends TD in COD almost every time we decide to boot it up.

That's because they are mostly AI generated, supported by data that says people want to play Shipment style maps all the time. It says a lot that Nuketown is the best playing map in the game.

Treyarch are dead, and to me that means Cod is dead. I have no interest in what Infinity Ward have been doing ironically since Zampella left.

Glomud, seine crossing, amiens, St quentin scar, I'd love to see on the new engine and destruction

Add all the bfbc1-2 maps for rush as well in portal

Have they ruled out fully featured server rental? Kernal level anti-cheat is obviously not ideal, but I'd be surprised if I didn't already have it installed from another game that didn't get enough fanfare to make me aware of it. I'm much more focused on those custom server options. Even if they can find a way to virtualize it. Such a big part of the Battlefield experience for me. Absurdly long games of Conquest, Metro 24/7, Going to the same server because you have a feel for the regulars, etc.

Isn't it gorgeous?

I'll throw out a less cynical take on their insistence on not having a server browser.

I think they want to maintain playlist control so they can have special events to pull players in like Operation Metro 24/7. This is their best way to attract players outside of new content.

I'm sure they must not think it plays a part in their market share decline since 4, but they're wrong. Battlefield 1 on PC with custom servers would be an evergreen release with strong sales legs after a decade. It's so frustrating to watch because the hard part, the actual game, they've got down. Seeing them fumble the bag on the paperwork after such a strong game development performance is brutal.

And as a player, yeah, going from my screenshot to just "FIND A MATCH" is a huge loss of functionality and a step backwards technologically. Do you think their curated control is an upgrade?

I never suggested it was, just throwing out a potential explanation. There are posts in this thread of me asking for a server browser.

Iit's going to sell like crazy regardless. This is simply something they can do to show fans their good intentions.

3D spotting is the dumbest thing about modern Battlefields.
Seeing big red dots saying 'shoot here' is such casual gamer junk.
Its a glorified wall hack.

BF2's spotting was handled solely thru the mini map - not big orange/red dots running around on the screen.
For BF3 and 4 - hardcore mode removed 3d spotting and spots were only viewable on the map screen only - but the concession was dealing with the super fast TTK of hardcore mode.

The fact that 3d spotting is back is lame.

I'm with ya. Simply aiming at an enemy shouldn't automatically highlight them and put a big red diamond above their head. Even if it's just for your personal HUD. It's obvious who the enemies are. Spotting should only take place if it's done manually or with the recon class. That's some bitch ass hand holding imo and breaks the immersion.

Yeah agree, 3D spotting in general is shit, event if it's manual. There should be no requirement for a hud element telling you what and where an enemy is.
The only spotting that should exist is via a UAV within the minimap like BF2.

Man remember when you could destroy the enemy UAV and artillery in BF2 - what a fucking cool concept, bring that shit back

What is the word on post launch support for maps? I see this 100USD edition which does nothing for me. That's asking a lot for not being a Deluxe version with access to all maps. And there's 9 at launch? Some clarity on this would be nice and if the maps will be free then that's great but I doubt that will happen.

Seein that jackfrags video earlier, I'm starting to see it now. Very informative so far. Steam version not requiring bloatware EA app is major reason to just get it on Steam.

Destroying those commander assets was such a cool little tactical touch to the gameplay - and often was the nudge that gave one entire team towards victory.
Remember how commanders then had to either waste a supply drop to repair them - or send a friendly engineer out there to fix them manually?
Having arty or UAV down for a set time period was a huge deal between winning and losing.

Those are things that with 2005's BF2, back then - I wondered how advanced new entries in the series would get with ideas like that - only to have the exact opposite happen in the 20 years since. Things have only gotten dumbed down and casual. Commanders dont even exist anymore and likely wont ever come back.

Even the comms system back then in BF2 > commander could voicechat with squadleaders - and give onscreen orders to the squadleaders.
Then the squadleaders relayed the orders to the squads. I used to ask the commander to send jets to bomb a tank convoy or something - and when it worked - it worked like a charm.

I used to play on servers where the commanders were military vets - these dudes took that shit seriously! But it made the game all the more fun having people running the teams who actually cared about winning. People (my crew included) used to wait in a huge queue just to play on those servers.

Anything new and exciting?

i skimmed 5 pages and saw nothing. Worse is lack of big maps and having too many smaller cramped infantry maps.

And that screenshot I saw of the Brooklyn map with the overturned fire engine (if my eyes didn't decieve me) was a turnoff. Made me think we are getting CoD.

Not seeing a reason why I wouldn't just play The Finals instead. BF developers. Destruction. Originality. Fun. ...
