I think many have already played (and loved) Tsushima though, so why is it a stretch that its actually a good game? (as I said above)
now I'm sure if you didn't enjoy Tsushima then you probably wont enjoy this, even with its improvements

I was not talking specifically about yotei but scores in general.
Saying that 100 analyst scored the game high means nothing for many people nowadays, especially when you see some mediocre ass games getting high scores.
And you can bet the people who care about yotei scores are gonna be the same ignoring good scores for a game they don't like or made for the "wrong" console.

Very true, I agree, but there just seems to be a lot of downplaying of the reviews of Yotei in this 'review' thread, whats the point of review threads at all if we are just going to disregard the reviews because they don't align with our personal opinions (without even playing the thing)
Oh, and as for your last line, I;m pretty certain that's happening with Yotei right now never mind other games, heck, Sony in general is taking a bashing lately for absolutely no reason (the worst one being Intergalactic which looks astonishingly good if that is indeed in engine footage)

The downplay is probably in response to the sdf chanting the eat the crow song because they think we all care about reviews scores.
It is not the gatcha moment they think it is.
Yotei scoring good was a safer bet than hoping for a bad score.

your average famitsu reader has consumed hundreds of TV anime that look exactly like that, I don't think they'll be necessarily impressed over some nice art that is par of the course for the magazine

Context matters, my friend.
I'm replying to a forum post where someone claims that Ghost of Tsushima had mediocre graphics on PS4, and that Yotei is even more disappointing on PS5, finishing off by calling it a AA game… And while his opinion is respectable, to me it's simply an absurd take, coming from someone judging through YouTube with little knowledge of game engines and art. I just point out that in Yotei's case, his view contradicts what more than 100 analysts and Digital Foundry have said about its technical side.
Whether someone likes a game more or less is subjective and unrelated to review scores, but the fact that Yotei has top-tier graphics and artistic design is objective.

The only thing i disagree with, is calling it AA, because it is clearly an AAA, games with worse production values are considered AAA so i don't see any reason to call yotei an AA.
BUT:
Tsushima rely heavily on his art design, technically it was probably the weakest sony open world of past gen, at best it traded blows with 3 years older horizon zero dawn with guerrilla making their first open world game ever, at best i can give you that calling the graphic mediocre is too much, it was...good but far from exceptional.
And yotei to many people
People using the budget difference excuse is only a deflection to basically say the same thing in a gentler way.

Yea I love the KCD games but combat is not why. It's better in #2 but still FPS melee combat has just never been great to me. It's why I appreciate that there are so many ways to outright avoid it.

The original is not amazing, sir.
And when you actually read the reviews beyond the score, it doesn't sound particularly improved. The combat is still paper scissors (and Dexerto says as much while calling it "depth"), just reskinned with weapon animations as opposed to stances. Enemy/NPC AI is still basic and dumb. Stealth is even more of an afterthought here. World and quest design is the same old same old. Dexerto also said that the story is "flatter" than Tsushima.

I've said this before on here, but yeah, it's tedious as fuck. And man, the story and characters got really good in the second act. But the game seemed to actively stop me from having fun with its tedium. (Or multiple opponent fights at major plot points forcing multiple attempts and completely breaking immersion or rhythm). And not having an easy mode was irritating as well.
Anyway. I'll likely be picking this up. A breezy, 25-30 hour main campaign. That soundtrack. All good

They look nice but alot of games can look nice with the right image. Secondly, most would look at a gameplay video and while Yotei looks fine, its just not a graphical bump from Tsushima like AC;Shadows is. Pretty much thatI see. Ignoring all the console war bullshit (some people here thing that being critical about some game is because you like the other piece of plastic more), NO GAME in the last 10 years is in my opinion close to 10/10 perfect score outside of maybe Clair Obscur and The Witcher 3. Clair Obscur was super refreshing, mature and reminded me of the time when I first played FFX as a kid (2003) while TW3 was GOTG of last gen.
Yotei looks like a very good game based on scores (and GoT that I liked) but 10/10? Fuck me...

No game made on UE5 deserves a perfect score...including Clair Obscur. It's my GOTY, my favorite game since 2020 but a perfect game? 10/10 isn't a perfect product...because perfect doesn't even exist. Go to that open world and your head explodes with all the pop-in happening in front of you lmao. I won't even mention the linear level design (can we even call it "level design"?), and other problems.
Going back to Ghost of Yotei...the game currently has an 87 on Metacritic...not a 97. I haven't played the game but it seems perfectly reasonable for the game from what i see so far. Better score than the first game, seems like a better product than that game as well, without reaching excellency or Game of the Generation type of scores...

No game is perfect, even all time classics like Ocarina of time, Baldur's Gate or Final Fantasy VII - all had some problems (like 15fps on Zelda, hahaha). Elden Ring has major technical issues, yet it got many 10/10 scores. Claire Obscur runs MUCH better than that, it mostly has some graphical issues like you said.
I think no game in the last ten years deserve 10/10 but E33 and TW3 are very close.
