Xbox Full Screen Experience Running on Windows Desktop

Waiting for it to drop on Windows handhelds so I can install it on my Ally X. Can be a game changer for Windows based handhelds.

You can use it to change games. That is true

Ill Just Leave Tony Hale GIF

Does this work with my Nvidia RTX 4070? Don't have to wait for special drivers?

Edit-the recent xbox app update enabled the other store installs to show up in library. It's a bit of a mess but the games can be started.

The next "Xbox" will simply be an OEM Windows PC set to run Full Screen Mode by default.

To get the "Xbox Certified" badge OEMs will need to use the AMD SOC.

Not sure how much this helps, but I've seen some stuff about the new W11 full-screen experience on Ally X from a JP user on Twitter.

But what kind of magic did MS use…
FSR is ON, but in 17w mode, Stellar Blade runs smoothly at 80FPS↑ (*´ω`*)

Thanks to software advancements, even older models can still compete…!
The thought of the Xbox Ally X being even smoother is quite daunting, isn't it? 😇

Full-screen version of Windows
Please note that it's at your own risk, but there are methods for applying this to gaming laptops or desktops posted on Reddit and similar platforms, so those who are interested might want to give it a try (*´ω`*)

(The lower the PC specs, the greater the effect is likely to be)

I don't give a damn until I see game performance and improvements that will at least put it on some level with steam os. And when you think about it and operating system that is using a translation layer is performing better than the garbage that we have in Windows

I've heard that FPS dosn't change much at all. The only thing improved is more memory available to games that would have gone to Windows.

When I had it installed on my Legion Go S, the only thing I noticed was Explorer wasn't running. I think Windows has too many dependencies to do a real dedicated gaming mode at this point.

Like in that thread recently about turning off One Drive, can make a noticable difference in how snappy Windows performs.
At least my PC shut down right away last night instead of sitting there thinking about it for a while before actually turning off.

I think so. I'm guessing it works the same on the ROG Ally. Jump to 3:41 to see it in action.

Interesting. Doesn't look like it puts it in a saved state like with Xbox so you wouldn't want multiple games running unless they were not very demanding, but perhaps that is something they are working towards. Pretty cool.

It's just Alt tab, nothing close to Quick Resume. It's not suspending the games. UWP apps and games had the ability to suspend and resume instantly when minimized or running in background, similar to iOS and Android games. But PC gamers didn't want that.

Windows has the ability to suspend/resume Win32 app but you have to do it manually in the task manager I believe.

as someone who had multiple issues with Quick Resume on Xbox, to the point where I actively avoid using it, I'd never trust that shit on a PC, where games are even less tailored to your system.

Seems robust.
I want to know how it handles audio. Currently audio want to always default to Stereo after I use headphones. Why it can't remember my home theater surround sound/Atmos I'll never understand.
I just have to click on the little speaker icon in the lower right of the desktop and change it back every time but it seems to me that computers should be able to do this automagically on their own. :(

Meh. Steam Big Picture on boot >>>>>>>>>>>

But options are always good.
Seriously. Saw a video tour of it couple hours ago and my reaction was the same. I was hoping this would be good, but it looks rather off-putting. I think the Steam BPM looks a lot better and has a cleaner UI. This here looks like someone took the already not so great Xbox UI and somehow made it much worse.

I've played around with it a bit. Definitely interesting. Going between an Xbox/GP game and Steam works and that's important imo.

But I had issues going between Xbox App launcher full screen and Playnite full screen, seems like both wants to be in control and Playnite can refuse to swap to Xbox App when doing the Xbox button app swapping.
Haven't tried recently so no idea if it's been patched.

It saves 800MB VRAM in Cyberpunk. Given the memory situation and how some in-home streaming apps like Moonlight struggle badly when starved of VRAM, this will be worthwhile to many users of older devices.

Using Windows LTSC and christitus powershell utility saves a lot more resources than this Microsoft trash. That is of course if you don't want to use Linux which saves a ridiculous amount of resources more

Windows updates break audio and video on various programs literally every 5-6 months now so without knowing anything about this I'm gonna say it's the update

Well, I tried the Titus optimizer the other day, and the AV program went nuts. The next morning, I had my PC go into repair mode for a few times before I had to bite the bullet and just do it all over again and just reset it. Goodbye 2 years of saved passwords and bookmarks. I finally got it working again, but a pain in the ass. Tried the Titus optimizer again, and again the same blocking. My AV program threw a fit the first time, I hope shit doesn't go worse.

That utility has hundreds of options, which ones did you change, obviously you have to read some stuff before tinkering or at least only use the recommended tweaks. What AV program went nuts?

Didn't even allow me in the first time after this last update. I couldn't change anything if I wanted to. I'm even conservative and just remove the spyware shit. I still can't do it. Even turning off my AV. I was able to again after resetting, but after the update that followed? Nope. Blocked.

Oh antivirus, for some reason I had a brain fart assumed you meant audio video program for editing which is far less likely. Did you open Powershell on Administrator privileges? This is the address you're using, right? iwr -useb https://christitus.com/win | iex

What antivirus are you using? Microsoft's definitely isn't doing this or Malwarebytes because I've used them. I'm assuming it must be one that is trying to block admin changes in Windows and fucks up boot somehow

Yep, the same thing and Total AV hates it and kicks it out. But only after the last update. Wierd.

Or Total AV updated its protections and automatically "protects" from registry changes that it detects as "Riskware". It's happening more and more lately with many antivirus programs, it's a new way these antivirus companies are sucking up to Microsoft and the surveillance industry by blocking legit changes that block Microsoft spyware

I have no idea why it's bricking your PC though, the morons fucked up something really bad, try to use the utility without that antivirus. I used the utility a couple of days ago and I was fine (even though I had to ignore Malwarebytes's bullshit warnings about "riskware" too)

I think the bricking was due to a bad update. It simply didn't update right, there was an error code on the windows update. I should've uninstalled it, but it was too late once I realized I hit the shutdown button. Whoops. User error plus MS error.

Early days but it looks good. Didn't know you could swap between games.

When he does his RAM test later in the video, you can see the FSE is using 2 gigs less RAM, but the frame rate is just a little bit worse than the Desktop mode. :messenger_confused:

I get that Microsoft needed this so they can squeeze as much performance out of fixed hardware spec with limited RAM configurations, but for PC gamers, RAM has almost never been the bottleneck in the past. It's always been cheap enough that it's worth buying nearly double what you need. I only play games, I don't think I've ever seen my system use more than 16GB, but I currently have 32GB. This is just the standard. Even now with RAM having shot up in price, no one should be riding on the edge of maxing out their system to save 8% of total system cost.

It's cool that someone got it working, but ultimately this is feels like a nothingburger for PC players.

This is what I thought to when I heard they lowered the RAM. Like that's cool but RAM is not the issue.

similar to Steam Big Picture, this is for PC players who want their games on the big screen.

Which PC player is happier using a mouse and keyboard to navigate their games on their living room TV?

I will finally be able to retire the keyboard and trackball on my rocker recliner. Just need a controller. At least until I want to fire up the web browser and type something. Back to reaching for a keyboard laying around somewhere.

I started with my PC on the livingroom TV back in 2012. I had a Logitech K400 and a 360 controller. Booting to Big Picture mode worked fine, but there was never any expectation it would give better performance. When this FSE for Xbox was originally described, it sounded like Microsoft was trying to squeeze some additional performance out of the hardware by turning off bits in Windows that aren't needed for games. That's the part that's a bummer here.

I get that it has value for Xbox by matching the functionality of Big Picture Mode. I just hoped it would be something additional beyond that.

A nice idea. However Xbox app sucks. Dont want that as main hub

If steam with fullscreen implements whatever interface is needed for being a FSE app - perfection

Yea it's basically just going to be steam big picture mode with people wondering why they would use the Xbox app instead of Steam. I'll be interested to see if they can ever get the game icons to not look like ghetto trash at least. That's one thing I noticed all the big picture mode programs have.
