Monitoring the situation in Iran

Urgent message from the Supreme Leader of Iran.

"Hey folks. I will briefly switch on the internet so I can log on to my internet bank to transfer some funds. No one else must use the internet during this time. Thank you for your attention on this matter."

The Kurds really should have been given their own place following WW2. They cling on in various countries there but they should have their own country.
The whole region should be redrawn across ethnic lines really. Granted it won't stop warring but unless it is a controlled by some empire - it has always been at war with each other.

Iran has so rich history (Persian empire), islam fucked it up for over 1000 years.
My Dad travelled through Iran when he was young.

It's crazy how places can wind up pretty much cut off (or completely like North Korea) in such a short amount of time. 79 to now isn't even 50 years.

I'm told Ayatollah Khaleesi is upping his offer of $7 a month for the protestors to go home to $7.10 a month.

Weren't the lines DELIBERATELY drawn to mash together otherwise antagonistic tribes in order to keep them from real progress?

None of these countries organically formed, I don't think, not that any country ever really does. At a certain point you just accept the lines on the map. But for the ME I think they were dealt an especially bad hand from their perspective.

Only story on Iran is four pages down. Bottom right corner.

I'm rooting for them to succeed. People want to live, live and be happy.
Iran used to be a (relatively) liberal and Westernized nation before the Islamic Revolution

Maybe they can go back to being how they were before Islam. Many Iranians dislike the fundamentalist standard form of Islam characteristic of the Arab nations. First of all, Iranians aren't Arabs, they are Persians. Second, they don't even speak Arabic, Farsi is a totally different language. Third, they aren't Sunni Muslims like 90% of the Muslim world, they are Shia

Guess we'll see how this goes. It would be nice to have an Iran that was closer to Turkey (the world's ONLY democratic Islamic majority state, and the Turks can thank Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for that) or even Indonesia as compared to any of the Gulf States or Egypt or something

There is a very real, very concerted effort to bury this.

Its actually wild.

It's not even trending on Twitter.

Totally buried on every news site.

Considering the strained relationship between Europe and Saudis, I think Turkey will become the next Islamic center after the fall of Iran. Interesting dynamics are going to emerge.

Good luck with that. And remember when you see a map like this: the reality on the ground is even more complicated because maps like these just indicate ethnic majorities, but every region will have significant ethnic/religious minorities as well. When you create mini states based on ethnicity, minorities who are suddenly in a different country will cause problems, especially when the majority ethnicity decides their brand new country should only have one state language namely theirs.

The news picks and chooses way too much what they want people to be upset about

You see the biggest story there
It's almost as if it's not tinfoil hattery that consolidated media being filtered through intelligence agencies and banking cartels is actually a real thing. Down to where they repeat the very same narrative slogans™ word for word 24/7 into the ultra's ether.

Rather than mini states the point is that it should be more like federations and such. Like the kurds for example have 6 or 7 groups. It is basically Taliban at this point. There is a reason why the only time those areas were unified was during the imperial period where a bigger entity subjugated smaller ones.

British media has no love for Iran, they've always been seen as bad so I wonder if they are silent after all those uprisings in the "Arab spring" didn't really lead to much.

I don't see which side would be benefitting from it not being discussed.
