Steam Frame, Steam controller and Steam Machine Revealed

Special only in the sense that everything is done out of the box, but that is important. Whoever it comes down to doing the work, Nvidia is the roadblock right now for a lot of gamers. I've seen that expressed here many times from folks, including myself.
I think it's time to look past them entirely.
Can't believe I am saying this to you and meaning it 100%

I wish I could. I tried, but AMD just ain't there. I'd rather take a hit on frame rates with Nvidia than put up with FSR.
I don't mean right away, I should have put eventually. But, it's looking bleak for everyone who doesn't have loads of disposable income or credit.
Not saying I couldn't afford it, but the real question is, would I even want to? 🤷‍♂️

Waiting GIF

Two months since the reveal. When do you guys think we will get the release date and price? They said release was sometime Q1, didn't they?
The thing is DOA with such specs so who cares.

Hopefully if they delay the Machine they don't delay the release of the controller as well. I really want that.

Why would they discontinue the OLED Steam Deck? They already discontinued the LCD model. Discontinuing the OLED means they don't sell any Steam Decks anymore.

To prepare for the end of 2027 with a Steam Deck 2. I think handheld PC's are about to become mainstream in 2027, Steamdeck 1 isn't going to cut it anymore.

Plenty of people care, obviously. There is a market for mid to low end gaming PCs.

They can get portables for that. Someone who is going for a stationary gaming pc can get better prebuilts or build something better if your going to spend over a 1000 dollars for it.

Not everyone wants/needs a portable

Maybe. Same form factor? Doubtful. This is why we need to know the price.

They aren't discontinuing, the frame plus machine combo is replacing my deck though don't see a need for it anymore

The frame is truly an everything device

Frame is Arm. Even with latest improvements for x86 on Arm emulation, you aren't running close to same number of games vs the Deck.

Which also reminds me if anyone is interested I'll probably be ebaying my upgraded steam deck to 512gig and including official dock with it for maybe like 300

It says battery health is 92% so it's still in good shape, screen protector was put on right out of the box

The hype balloon deflated.
The meta vr news killed the frame hype, the memory news killed the machine hype, TMR aplenty from other companies on Amazon killed the controller hype.
DEAD
That just increased hype for the frame because a lot of quest users are looking forward to it now

And with Sony pretty much abandoning psvr the frame is going to be the only normal priced gaming headset

Agreed -- if anything, Meta's unreliability seems like a win for the Frame.

The biggest downside of the Frame at first was that it's not too radically different from Quest3 and yet you don't get all the Meta exclusives (Batman, etc)... but if we aren't going to see that many high quality exclusives in the future on Meta platform, the Frame looks much more appealing.

I think the panic over Meta layoffs is still overblown, by the way; there are layoffs across tech and Meta still retains a very large investment in the space even after those shutdowns. But still a bad sign for them.

So GAF … when are we getting info on the price and release date?! Didn't they say Q1 or was I dreaming that?
That was before the ol AI memory price spiking. At this point, I'm sure they want to stick to that, but they're also probably just trying to wait for the right time.

I kinda forgot they were announced, to be honest. What's the point of announcing hardware so far in advance and then peacing out for months with no further details? That's not how we do things anymore really.

That's how things have always been done for gaming hardware

We didn't even know what ps5 looked like for months after announcement, did you forget about ps5 after they announced it

Right but even with that (and Switch 2) I'm pretty sure they announced when they'd be talking about more details. This they just said "Hey look at all this cool new hardware -- well, see ya later!"

I wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed internally for obvious reasons, maybe they don't even know yet and are looking for the situation to stabilize before officially announcing anything.

According to Bradly it's not delayed and may even release in Feb, March is worst case

And delaying it makes no sense, doesn't help us, doesn't help valve

I was excited for this, but there's no reason why Valve should have gone dark just because of price indecision.

More demonstrations or ongoing preview coverage could have helped build more anticipation and keep discourse going.

Nothing has changed they said they were announcing price after the beginning of the year

That's my point. Something SHOULD have changed.

It's clear that announcing the Steam Machine and then shrouding it in secrecy until they reveal a ghastly price looks ridiculous. By at least giving it another round of media coverage, maybe the excitement around this thing wouldn't have tanked as hard.

It's a shitty rollout.
