Sony shuts down Bluepoint Studios

I'm trying to hold back from unloading right now, but I can feel it boiling up inside.

Might come back later when my head's a bit cooled down. But the short of it is this: PlayStation's upper management needs a purging, and it's probably time for Hulst to step aside.

They could still make remakes ad Demons souls.

Motorstorm remake

Killzone remake

Syphon filter remake

Nah...kill.them but media molecule that dont make a fucking game let them doing nothing.

Lol

What's funny is now Jim Ryan has been gone for some time people turn to Hermen Hulst, like it's one man that's taking an entire company hostage.

The higher ups at Sony are demanding this. It's the global strategy, has been for a while. And the death of Xbox also has consequences.

And why is this bad news exactly? What of value have they produced? Some decent remakes, and a rather bad one (demon souls). After they completely butchered the art style of DS, I knew there was no way this studio was producing anything decent. Better to spend sony's budget elsewhere, as long as its not yet another live service garbage.

So Sony acquired them just over 4 years ago, pushed them to create a live service game, cancelled it, and now decides to shut the studio down. Sony is run by retards.

Think I'll save my money for pc upgrades instead of a next gen PS console tbh.
if you buy a 5080 today, there is a good chance it will be more powerful than the next ps5. some games might end up being vram bound on your 5080 but that probably wont happen till 2032 when next gen only games come out, and it likely wont ever happen since ram is more expensive than ever and sony might end up going with 16gb vram again.

Unbelievable what a mismanaged shithole Sony has become, they're no better than Microslop at this point. Literally pissing on the fanbase by closing one of it's favorite atudios.

They should remake atrobot into battle royale game.

And we can buy cool sony nostalgia playstatyion 1 era custumes .

Please make it haplen

If the studio's expertise is remakes and remasters, don't throw them into the deep end with a live service project, man. It's such a baffling decision...

Probably a decision shift in the projects. The ones who decided to pick Bluepoint probably bought them for that specific reason but a dirty finger decided to scrap all that and make all gaming studios to focus on GaaS, regardless of their expertize and purpose.

Sure Sony. But hey, how about a remake of the PS4 remaster of The Last Of Us but now make it a multiplayer experience with loot, capture the flag and shit like that? I mean , that's what the kids like these days, right? Thank god Nixxes is still there...

Yes, he isn't to blame he just need to get fucked alongside those ninjas who defend him and his bullshit this whole gen. lol
The industry is rapidly transforming right now. Every AAA publisher is weathering the storm. Giving BluePoint 5 more years to make...what? What was their 10 million seller game they were inevitably going to make?

Their track record was pretty good before a RETARD asked them to work on some retarded stuff
They released remakes of Shadow of the Colosus and Demons Souls. I don't believe either did all that well.

Imagine still being a Sony fan in 2026.
Their post-PS2 IP just don't appeal to me. I think they do a good job leveraging 3rd party IP that have strong ties to the PS brand from the PS1/PS2 era. I also think they have built a strong brand that has led to some nice completely console exclusive or tied console exclusive PS5 titles. I give them credit on all of that.

What the fuck is going on over there? BP releases one of the most graphically impressive games this generation at launch, then they get tossed around from GAAS to GAAS to end up here?

Does everyone in PS leadership have their head up their ass?

Well, sure, they don't have IP. But they have done consistently excellent work going way beyond the scope of what Nixxes shits out. Sony saddled them with a God of War GaaS game that got cancelled, and I'd have to imagine that if they didn't get a pitch through after that fell apart, that's probably due more to Sony's inability to commit to a good game than anything. There is no way Bluepoint couldn't propose something compelling. Their track record is too good to believe that.

Doing good work is EXPECTED.

Successful IP though are the gold dust that everyone is searching for. Not just because its valuable, its transferrable.

The business calculus is brutally simple: Burn rate at a given site vs potential for income. Hence companies without legacy IP like Bluepoint are vulnerable because the value is in the manpower/expertise, which is not something that can be relied upon because people get dissatisfied and leave, or their particular skills become less relevant depending on the projects being undertaken.

A double whammy in Bluepoint's case as their specific skill was in porting legacy Japanese IP from the PS3 era. With emulation tech and the hardware to support that...

I just upgraded to a 9070XT about 3 months ago lol. Very happy with the purchase currently!

Holy christ. What terrible mismanagement.

"The studio then spent the last year pitching and trying to determine what it would do next."
Bloodborne Remake.

Is it really that hard? Everyone is asking about it ALL the time.. Incredibly stupid.

I'm on the wiki to see what all Bluepoint has done.
Not much.
I see they did the Nathan Drake Collection. It's the only thing listed that I bought.
I liked that version of those 3 UC games. (Still no PC version)
