And here it is, our most anticipated game - so far! - of 2026. Resident Evil Requiem is a worthy new chapter in the series, with thick layers of superb technology for us to discuss. We're focusing primarily on the PS5 Pro version in this video (though all other consoles bar Switch 2 are covered) because it has transformative ray tracing along with sublime image quality. Enjoy!

• RE Engine Maturity: Successor to MT Framework, delivers generational visual leap with atmospheric environments, hyper-detailed characters, superb animation, and advanced effects; opening rain-soaked streets exemplify detail, lighting, and ray tracing (RT).

• PS5 Pro Technical Excellence:

• Quality/RT Mode: ~1080p native with temporal upscaling to near-native 4K; transformative RT reflections and global illumination; mostly locked 60 FPS (minor exceptions); occasional low-res reflection noise/denoising artifacts.

• 120 Hz Mode: RT and temporal upscaler disabled; FSR1-like spatial scaling yields inferior image quality; consistently high FPS with VRR support for smoothness.

• Character Models: Among the finest in gaming; realistic materials, cloth rendering, skin shading, eye refraction; improved strand-based hair (from RE4 Remake) with proper lighting/integration and minimal performance impact.

• PS5: ~1080p+ spatial upscaling; no RT (reflections/GI absent); 60 FPS; Pro's 120 Hz mode matches this presentation (retains strand hair).

• Xbox Series X: Identical to PS5 (~1080p+ spatial upscaling, no RT, 60 FPS).

• Xbox Series S: ~720p base with FSR1-like scaling (poor image quality); strand hair removed; smooth performance.

• Additional Features: Excellent black levels (resolves prior RE issues); superb 3D audio for spatial enemy positioning/atmosphere; RE Engine scales gracefully across platforms, with PS5 Pro as definitive console experience.

Regular PS5 owners am cry, that sucks! :(

and Xbox obviously.

Pro version seems good for those playing there, looking forward to the PC vs PS5 pro. That path tracing looks legit next gen in 2026.

The PS5 Pro at 120Hz looks like PS5/XSX at 60Hz, and at 60Hz you get ray tracing and significantly better image quality. The XSS looks worse than the Switch 2^^

But why isn't there a 30Hz mode with RT for PS5/XSX?

MS can immediately get a lot of gamer goodwill by making something like optiscaler for XSS and XSX allowing the injection of FSR4 INT8 version into supported games. That will greatly improve the longevity of the XSS.

I thought it was that the point of the PRO sku

I was just saying its not needed but there is a big jump here. Base consoles vs pro and PC is not looking great but still "fine" i guess.

Can't wait to see how the path tracing looks vs pro, the PC screenshots yesterday are something else!

Next gen is here, baby!

Yep, it will push PS5 and Pro pretty hard in next 12 months

Explain what sucks? It runs great on PS5, its just runs way better on Pro as expected.

Also, PS5Pro was/is cheaper than Series X. Let that sink in. Sony is delivering the goods.

I am sure they won't, but if were in AI CEO's shoes that is what I would do.
I don't know if it's ironical but this stuff was debunked many times; FSR4 costs too much mss on xbox series hardware, I don't know why continue to spread this illusion as something really feasible.

Look at the video, 1080p with terrible jaggies and image quality. RT is transformative in this game and the base consoles dont have it. Its a night and day difference.

In the uk the pro is not cheaper than a series X its 260 pounds cheaper than the pro in the UK. as you will need to buy the disk drive to be on par with it feature wise. or £180 cheaper without the disk drive but thats not like for like.

How much is it where you are?

Oh it isn't 4K + 60fps?

Turtle What GIF
It's slightly above 1080p and uses a temporal upscaling solution to resolve to a 4K like image. But the difference in image quality between the PS5 Pro and the base PS5 is huge, since the latter has no RT features and relies on a spatial upscaler (John says it's FSR1 like scaling).

Edit: Removed the TAA mention since it's likely incorrect.

The temporal upscaling solution is remarkable in delivering what looks close to native 4K resolution even though the pixel counts come in at just over 1080p. Ray tracing is added to the mix, with transformative reflections and global illumination.

The PS5 Pro 120Hz mode is a match to the PS5 mode.

PS5 Pro is clearly in a class of its own here. It's one of the most convincing upgrades we've seen for the system. As mentioned, the Pro's 120Hz mode is effectively the same as the standard model's 60fps presentation, meaning that RT reflections and GI are gone. You do get the hair strand system at least!

In the end we have game with a lot of RT effects, above 1080p resolution and good image quality thanks to reconstruction. UE5 in comparison look like shit even on Pro.

nice pro upgrade
that extra ray tracing performance finally proved its worthwhile, at least for 60 fps
but i'm sure ray tracing would be possible on base consoles with a 30 fps target, just like ac shadows
interesting stuff

It really is next gen looking on Pro vs base consoles. PC is something else entirely above that.

I am so hyped for this game, papito!

Me too. Actually I have a few days off from work and I was thinking, maybe I should get the console version (base ps5) in New Zealand and play now but this video convinced me otherwise lol

I doubt this is using TAAU to upscale the image. It never looks this good.
This has to be PSSR, a very good implementation of it. Or maybe even PSSR2.

The so-called experts that said PS5 Pro was CPU limited and a scam are starting to look like idiots, just like any sane person expected

Incredible upgrade on IQ

And that weak CPU gives you a 120 fps mode while keeping the same IQ of the base model at 60....

LOL

And PSSR 2.0 is yet to come....

It is CPU limited, the CPU is only 10% better than PS5 not to speak of the CPUs in the PC's. I love my Pro but the CPU needed a bigger bump

This game really needs a 30fps mode. There could be headroom to enable hair strands on Series S (if memory allows), better image quality on all consoles, and RT on Series X and PS5.

Yeah, you might be right. I'm curious if we'll get more details on the temporal upscaler they're using for the RT mode on the Pro.
