And here it is, our most anticipated game - so far! - of 2026. Resident Evil Requiem is a worthy new chapter in the series, with thick layers of superb technology for us to discuss. We're focusing primarily on the PS5 Pro version in this video (though all other consoles bar Switch 2 are covered) because it has transformative ray tracing along with sublime image quality. Enjoy!
• RE Engine Maturity: Successor to MT Framework, delivers generational visual leap with atmospheric environments, hyper-detailed characters, superb animation, and advanced effects; opening rain-soaked streets exemplify detail, lighting, and ray tracing (RT).
• PS5 Pro Technical Excellence:
• Quality/RT Mode: ~1080p native with temporal upscaling to near-native 4K; transformative RT reflections and global illumination; mostly locked 60 FPS (minor exceptions); occasional low-res reflection noise/denoising artifacts.
• 120 Hz Mode: RT and temporal upscaler disabled; FSR1-like spatial scaling yields inferior image quality; consistently high FPS with VRR support for smoothness.
• Character Models: Among the finest in gaming; realistic materials, cloth rendering, skin shading, eye refraction; improved strand-based hair (from RE4 Remake) with proper lighting/integration and minimal performance impact.
• PS5: ~1080p+ spatial upscaling; no RT (reflections/GI absent); 60 FPS; Pro's 120 Hz mode matches this presentation (retains strand hair).
• Xbox Series X: Identical to PS5 (~1080p+ spatial upscaling, no RT, 60 FPS).
• Xbox Series S: ~720p base with FSR1-like scaling (poor image quality); strand hair removed; smooth performance.
• Additional Features: Excellent black levels (resolves prior RE issues); superb 3D audio for spatial enemy positioning/atmosphere; RE Engine scales gracefully across platforms, with PS5 Pro as definitive console experience.
Review: Resident Evil Requiem: Excellent On All Systems But Brilliant on PS5 Pro
Sony's enhanced console delivers stunning image quality and excellent RT effects.
