Black Myth: Wukong is easily my fav game this gen,

scored like 70s-low 80s

cant trust these journalists, we just appreciate different aspects of a game. i dont need perfect systems and execution.
i need good immersion, high visual fidelity, dope atmosphere and exploration + great combat

Is this the teams first game on this scale/scope? If so, that's even more impressive.

And let's not forget a lot of the issues could probably be ironed out vis patches.

I'm not gonna throw shit at the game that looks this good and does so much. I'll get it down the road. I still need to start RE9 tonight.

I have always thought this game looked simultaneously amazing and generic. I think I will pass on it for now. Not in the mood for overly long game unless it's one I'm really excited for.

Can I volunteer you to do that, I don't wanna.
If that's the case, I would just safely assume the critiques of that nature are just industry people covering for other industry people who don't make games that well.

For this example, you're dealing with a guy who writes like this:
There are lots of trees in feudal Japan, towering conifers and shorter but no less beautiful deciduous varieties whose leaves oscillate between the vivid greens of spring and burned autumnal tones. But many trees lie felled on the ground, hacked to bits by rapacious warlords intent on demonstrating and protecting their power with gigantic fortifications and opulent palaces.

IGN gave Crimson Desert a 6 but left the door open to change it if it becomes a hit with gamers. Prevents another God Hand or Demon's Souls situation for them. EA and Ubisoft are huge advertising partners. Convention buddies I bet too.

These are serious, objective scores from serious journalists. I bet they wear scarves and smoke cigarettes while discussing nuanced foreign policy topics.

It's the first single player game they've made.

Said it in the other thread but console bros, please be aware they only sent out review copies for PC.
We don't know the state of the game on consoles, specially the base ones.

Also remember that most reviews, even the more negative ones, are praising the visuals and overall tech. Just remember the metascore is being boosted by visuals and performance that might be significantly worse on console (specially the non "pro" ones)

The only thing I look for in reviews are genuine problems a game I'm interested in has, and here it seems like the main concerns might be the quest design, controls, and occasional bugs.

He says he loves the game lol, but might be worth waiting for patches.

I'm not waiting for shit. :lollipop_content:
Hell no, I'm not waiting either. I've no doubt there will be patches all year long. The fact that a game this big is pretty optimized and running well on release is still great, especially after all of the games of 2025 that ran like shit.

Are there any in depth talking points about the controls? Thats my main concern right now. If I have to use a cheat sheet just to manipulate objects in the world, I might not want to play.

I'll just say what I've always said. 70 is a good score. 80 is a great score. Looking forward to playing

I don't think I've ever loved or even managed to finish an open world game that scored in the 70s on MC/OC. Games that are 50+ hours long can't afford to also be average.

With that said, I'm keeping an open mind and I'm still looking forward to playing this tomorrow. Reviews don't ever tell the full story, of course.

Yeah exactly. He also mentions Dragon's Dogma a few times in the review and that's music to my ears lol. No way I miss on this one.

I don't understand the surprises here. How can someone be so eagerly expecting a game and not know anything about it. It's not like it was hidden (except for the console version lol). They had playable demos of this same shit over the years in many shows. Every negative point was already there unless a last minute fix would arrive. Which is impossible in a project of this magnitude. Maybe what is surprising is that those flaws aren't overlook by the always disappointing game reviewers. Those monkeys usually get carried away by the hype of turds the size of Gibraltar like Wukong. So, yeah, maybe this is surprising in a way.

Well boys I felt conflicted about this game and I still feel that way even after the reviews. Doesn't seem worth it to me to drop 80 bucks on it. Guess I'll wait for sale.

Death Stranding 2 here I come

IGN and Gamespot reviews are all over the place. It's actually retarded that Metacritic weighs them heavier than any other website writing a review. IGN gave Veilguard a 9 and Godhand a 3. If your game features leftoid politics it will 100% get favorable treatment from these outlets.
The correct approach isn't to buy into ideology (I genuinely feel sorry for people who are stuck in this worldview), but look at the individual reviewers. IGN for instance is Travis Northrup. I know compared to me he overthinks things. He'll penalise a game where I'm just thinking is this still fun, not does it advance the gaming genre.

Basically my advice is find the reviewers who you generally agree with after you have played a game. Tune out the rest.

TLDR: we all enjoy different things.

We've got a high of 100 and a low of 45 across 87 different people. Same reviewers will probably give GTA 6 scores in the 90s and I'll probably end up hating it just like I always do GTA games.

Made my choice and bought the game before the reviews and these scores don't change a thing for me. That doesn't mean I won't be disappointed. Doesn't mean I won't be happily surprised. Just gotta play and find out for myself.

IGN review reads like someone who is bad at video games.

I'm also laughing how hypocritical these reviewers are when Breath of the Wild gets 10s across the board with the most nothing story ever in a video game and this one gets ragged on for not having a Rockstar tier story apparently.

No!

We must be a hive mind!
