The above is part of the quote from Jewels in Pulp Fiction, you can clearly see where Hegseth changed one or two words from it. He's not quoting the actual bible verse, he's quoting the movie line and trying to pass it off as the actual bible verse and asking people to pray on it. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The meaning between the two is very different. The original verse from the Bible is a proclamation from God, the latter a derivative focused on earthly judgment by men. The whole point of the New Testament and Jesus' teachings is about grace. You know, love your enemies, turn the other cheek, etc? Jesus emphasized that vengeance is the domain of God, not man.

The only thing I can seem to find now is a 2022 with the former Iranian Deputy Speaker, but I don't think that's it. I thought I saw a different interview as well from more recently, but I can't find it anymore. In that clip, the host says something like "aren't you concerned about admitting this on national television?" And then the guy responds that he doesn't think anyone would be paying attention to his interview. I'm guessing it was posted earlier in the thread. Anyone happen to know which clip I'm talking about?

Both false. He is quoting 'CSAR 25:17', which someone in the military presumably shared with him, and his introduction makes it abundantly clear he is not trying to 'pass it off' as an actual bible verse. Ofc, your original tweet (because the writer is attempting to mislead rather than inform) chooses to misrepresent it as 'He even tweaked the ending to reference a military rescue unit', as though he hadn't just explicitly introduced the whole thing with that context.

It is always fascinating to me, seeing people get successfully tricked like this, and how their response is not 'Huh, I wonder how many times I was tricked like this before? I'll be more skeptical next time.', but instead to convince themselves they were not tricked at all.

A prayer is a prayer. Frankly, it doesn't matter if it is from or inspired by a film. Military people often quote or adopt film quotes. You know, what with films often being cool, so they want to say something cool. Or poignant, as films can be art too.

Some of you tools here have even got me, someone who doesn't believe in these sky fairies, to defend those who do.

edit.. If its in regards to Hegseth, while I respect others religious beliefs, I have issues with them being preached from a government position. Particularly coming from the military arm of the state.

The Bible disagrees. And I understand that you don't believe. I don't either, I've been agnostic for quite some time. But I grew up Baptist and took my lessons seriously.

Matthew 6 outlines the correct way to pray and practice your faith. A large number of "Christians" do not adhere to that, because many of them don't read the Bible. They passively absorb whatever their pastor tells them on Sunday akin to letting social media algorithms determine what you see and hear. The distinction between Christians and the hypocrites who call themselves "Christian" is blatant when you are familiar with the source material. This is further reflected by the absurdity of folks like JD Vance lecturing the Pope, with the consequence of this perversion of religious faith creating further dissent in the MAGA coalition. Look at how quickly POTUS took down his "Red Cross" post, it was massively stupid and unpopular with his own base. Religion is a triviality for you, but not for folks who believe in it.

It's not that simple. Iran didn't just wake up one day and decide not to trust the West. The U.S. and U.K. literally helped overthrow Iran's elected leader in the 1953 Iranian coup d'état (because he had the nerve to nationalize their oil) and backed the Shah, who ruled as an authoritarian. That eventually blew up into the Iranian Revolution leading to the current leadership. So yeah, from their (edit: The Ayatollah's) perspective, "trust us, give up leverage and we'll protect you" isn't exactly a comforting pitch. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Now that it's become apparent there will likely be no real change for the people of Iran who want the regime gone, I hope this is over very quickly. Already talk of imminient recessions, stagflation and multiple interest rate hikes because of the oil disruption and hopefully things getting back to normal ASAP can mitigate that somewhat.

From what I can tell a lot of the details in this story are fishy or misleading. The oil industry issue in Iran was actually successfully negotiated in the 1970s when the country was more stable. But earlier on the so called "democratic" seizure of the oil industry was very controversial in the country. The scene overall then was very chaotic. It is true that Mossadegh is a symbol of national pride and resentment but that is looking back on it as the country was more divided then. The USA itself got involved because it was a move to stop communism, due to the influence of the soviet union there, and the nationalization for them was just a way to get the British on board.

I was focusing on the current regime, the Ayatollah, for a reason. Going deeper into the history would've just derailed the point. Right now, we're dealing with a government that came to power in part because the West allegedly screwed things up.

They screwed plenty up themselves including allowing an extremist religious government to take control. Okay, maybe the British should have been more chill about the Iranians stealing from them. And maybe the US should have been more chill about letting the soviet union do what they wanted. But in the end it was the Iranians themselves who did the coup on Mossadegh.

That's great, but my comment was responding to the idea that the Ayatollah would trust the West if they said, "hey, give up your nukes and we'll protect you." Given how that regime came to power, does that honestly sound realistic to you?

I think that regime change is more of an existential issue for them than getting nuclear weapons. As for if America is trustworthy that's a much broader problem. If the US is deciding to bypass the UN entirely then a lot of things could get murky.

Anyway, the tale of Iran is similar to that of Lebanon. Conservative Islamists worked with the liberal left to gain power until the left were no longer of any use.

I mean, there's things in the Bible that are up for interpretation and a variety of different conclusion, and there's things that are very black and white.

This thing about prayer is one of those black and white things. Theres little to no leeway room about whether the Bible endorses self aggradizing public prayers like this

My current advice is "stop voting for rich people". If they're in the top 15% (in my country, at least) they're not fit for office because by and large they have no clue what life really is like for the other 85%.

The tolls were headline news worldwide. The world was having concerns about them. Iran's lack of ability to carry it out takes nothing away from the sentiment.
 
The sentiment was (if we are being generous) unwarranted hysteria based on looking at (and failing to understand) a single square of the board, coupled with a lack of appreciation for the fact that President Trump is looking at and understanding the whole board, directly controlling most of the best pieces on the board, while understanding every motivation influencing every move of his opponents.

If we are being less generous it was just another symptom of the constant desire to create a false 'the sky is falling' narrative around President Trump.

The result will be the same regardless: the match ends with President Trump's opponent in checkmate, America in a superior position to when it started, and doubters left scratching their heads wondering how it happened after they were repeatedly assured it was going so badly for him.

Except anybody with some functioning brain (journous do not have one) would see that Iran had no way to enforce it (not to mention their dumb idea to mine the strait). Iranian statements - like AI videos - should have always been treated like "Sure, Jan".

It is just a usual media brainrot where they push Iran's statements as absolute truth, completely believing them due to their own TDS. It is the same reason why a lot of thinktanks and economists cannot predict anything these days either.

The next day and this news has yet to be confirmed by any other sources. Haven't been able to find a single Iranian source/rep confirming anything like this.

Sounds like it was just some more bluster so far.

The Iran simps are now so distraught that oil prices are under $100, the USA blockade has worked, and a ceasefire is fully in place, that they have now taken to… laughing about food served on a naval vessel… as their consolation prize I guess. They seem so sad that the war hasn't escalated to WW3.

Priests and vicars here make up their own prayers all the time. In fact, they are proud of their ability to do so and often get a bit competitive with each other over it.
 
Ive always find funny how they close the strait by mining the territorial waters of another country and how the other country is so passive about the situation.

Iran and US are reportedly meeting again in PK (the security is so high that some are speculating that Trump himself might be visiting Pakistan soon).

The strait (looks like) it's about to open to pre-war levels again.

Oil prices are (finally) going down.
