Monitoring the situation in Iran

And they're charging tolls for it.

Trump says something, Iran says another .. we need some actual middle point reporting on this.

I don't even think the Iranians(IRGC) know who's in charge of Iran. We could be dealing with a few groups here.

Honestly, just call it Schrodinger's Strait at this point, no one knows what is going on.

Somebody's becoming filthy rich.

People should know by now that corruption and government go hand in hand.... they're all at it, all governments.

And all the media outlets keep talking to figures from Iran that who knows what arm they represent. It's like that scene in Apocalypse Now, where Willard asks the crazed soldier, "who is the commanding officer here?"

How do I get in on this action? There's a killing to be made. You know those ceasefire announcements are going to cause the price to immediately fall even if nothing actually comes of it then they shoot back up.

Inner circle bro.

Entry fee: 1 billion USD.

Yeah. I know. I'm not some passive player just despairing on the internet. My pointing it out is not out of shock or surprise, it's just part of my process. I'm actively involved with local politics in my jurisdiction, literally hired a lawyer, created a petition, collected signatures, and spoke at multiple county council meetings during the run-up to the 2024 election cycle trying to fight local corruption involving a builder and his cronies on said council who own businesses that stood to benefit. After our win, got my local Republican Congressman to show up at our neighborhood victory party (I smoked 40 pounds of pork shoulder, was good eating) to talk about the situation and the path moving forward (he wasn't involved in the corruption). I'm not oblivious to the real reason he showed up, he wanted our votes just like his opposition. But he showed up and the Democrat nominee didn't despite our invitation. His answers reflected that he actually understood the situation and gave us feedback; we all voted accordingly, and the Democrat candidate lost. I'm not interested in tribal politics, I'm interested in outcomes... and fighting corruption if I have the power to do so. Locally, I take direct action. Federally? Far outside the scope of my capabilities and influence, so posts are all I have to offer. Frankly, people should spend more time involved in their local politics than federal, it matters a lot more.

I put this in spoilers because my answer isn't relevant to Iran, but it is relevant to your direct response to me.

Yep, it's very likely the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. If a deal is struck, will the IRGC honor it? That's the big question. I hope so.

I'm hearing President Trump achieved the impossible and reopened the Strait of America without a ground invasion??

The man is a damn prodigy, eh?

Yep. Is he the first president to have an open Strait of Hormuz?
Nice ban bait bro. Top quality.
Gosh, this is turning into an Xbox thread about Phil's groundbreaking vision

The salt levels 😂

A major discussion point of the thread -and media coverage of the war- has been that military action against Iran was a huge mistake because of their ability to retaliate by closing the strait, that this could only be countered by a ground invasion, and that the Trump administration had ignored this reality before acting.

That analysis apparently turning out to be completely false, and that the military action could be conducted and then the strait forced open again by (very briefly) using US naval supremacy to apply an economic chokehold, seems like a significant development.

It is pretty clear that there is a split now with how IRGC and their TV propaganda vs civic branch.

I think there is going to be another round to finish off IRGC nutjobs. Especially with civics distansing themselves.

I have tried to ignore it since I figured after the standdown it would work itself out slowly over time. That said I do enjoy some social navel gazing as seen in the marathon ccu thread. Just feeling social tonight. Hello Iran thread. So glad we didn't have to take out electricity. Seriously. Anyway my king says it best:

The magic of electricity is a miracle we all share. I was without electric for 3 weeks due to an ice storm this year and goddamn man. That shit fucking sucked. That's when I got into AI(and gaf) 3 weeks of daily 2x Honda generator cranks, oil and gas changed, expenses, data costs, taking care of aging folks. Bro Jesus was with me. Middle Ages happen quick with no juice. Just like in The Road. At my darkest I imagined repair would never come. I was in the road and it sucked ass. I'm glad we didn't send Iran to the road and I don't get hoping we did. If you are in The Road usually you don't give a damn about politics and are just trying to get out of the road. By The Road I mean the movie, lol.

The timing of this post can't be an accident surely?

It's pretty much clear that the IRGC is divided. Maybe we should foster a civil war. We'll provide air power to the side that we agree with the most.

Hold on, why are people begging Europeans to open the straight for Indian ships? India have a higher GDP than Russia and a population of over 1 billion. They are right next to the straight opposed to Europe would would have to go all the way around Africa if it wasn't for the Suez canal.

TBF those super tankers don't fit in any canal. And also those tankers going through keeps the prices of energy down.

Again? What a fucking mess of negotiations.

Both India and China are closer to the straight of Ormuz, yet none of them is doing anything to help. And both depend more on it for oil and gas than Europe.
Trump has called for their assistance but they just ignored him.
