Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

They should just stop playing fantasy type lord of the rings (skyrim) and military brown fpses really, that will help them grasp other gaming genres...

Skyrim is my GOTY at this point (don't have zelda yet) and I've been playing a lot of BF3. However, I can't wait for Zelda. I love both Mario Galaxy games, Smash, and tons of other gaming genres. Did I just blow your mind? :P

Looking at how annoying Fi is to butter_stick and co, I though he would have a field trip bashing her, but no, he LOVES her.

Something is not right.

I don't believe the poster was saying that people who play one type of game or for one system are incapable of enjoying games from another system or genre. I think he's pointing out that the reviewer constantly compares SS to other games. For example he says the Stamina meter and running is cool but then dismisses it and says other games introduced that a long time ago. A lot of things he said were fine but then dismissed them because another game had introduced it a while ago thus meaning Nintendo is always playing catch up.

Yeah he specifically said that Fi is far better and far less annoying than Midna and Navi. He also complains that Fi should've been in it more.

Fi is mildly amusing for, say, an hour.

As a character she's inoffensive, but there really isn't much of anything to love. My dislike of her comes from the game forcing her on you all the time to explain everything, not really the character itself.

The 65/100 review highlights valid complaints, like sometimes weird controls, pointless side quests etc but turns something that's a little annoyance into something that's worthy of hate.

Thinking Fi is the best thing about the game is just wrong though, she is by far the worst thing about the game.

Wait, the game doesn't at least challenge the player to 'try on their own' to suss things out first? Does Fi just cut in without my permission and give hints without asking? Does Nintendo truly have no respect for the intelligence of their consumers?

This. Everything is blown out of proportion in his review. But I still believe many will share his disdain and Skyward Sword will be a very polarizing game.

It's more during scripted sections it bugs me. You'll watch something happen, and then Fi will tell you what happened. A character will tell you to go somewhere, then Fi will suggest you go there.

In regards to puzzles, I haven't found her to be overly detrimental. Can't think of any situations in that context where she's been any more of a problem than anyone else. I have no problems using the hint system when I'm stuck though, so I'm not the best person to comment.

I don't dislike Fi. She has no personality, but that lack of personality is her personality. She's cold and logical and sometimes threatens Link until she realizes he'll go on the quest willingly.

Plus I like her design. The cape as arms is kind of cool.

Really the only thing I don't like is she reiterates stuff that was already said clearly. She doesn't ruin puzzles, though.

The Zelda Cycle. Every Zelda game is the worst in the series until the next one comes out, then the previous one is an under appreciated classic.

Twilight Princess love in 3... 2....

Maybe Zelda games just get progressively worse? =P

I knew this was going to happen. I think SS is going to be better than TP, but TP might have a few better dungeons, and some better music. People will bring that up, and suddenly "OMG ZELDA CYCLE CONFRIMED FUCKING ZELDA FANS"

Some times she does that. Most times she points out the obvious or what has been already stayed. There's even lot of repeating dialog (word for word) for similar game sequences.

At one part i remember, where her intervention ruins a puzzle sequence or at least the exploration part of it.

Fi is maybe the best companion aid concept ever devised by Nintendo. It's her execution thats been fucked up. The character is really cool.

Well, with the Portable Zeldas looking more like the console ones (and by that I mean "look at Ocarina of Time 3D), I think the Zelda Cycle could include the portable ones soon.

i played a wii game that was like a survival horror game and someone would call you and you would hold up the wiimote to your ear to hear.

one of my favorite implementations of the wii speaker. it was kinda creepy and awesome. i can't recall the name atm, think it was a wiiware game.

I don't know who it was, I think it was Marcus, but he pretty much tell the Zelda Fanboys to shut the fuck up in the last Invisible Walls.

Though, when you just don't like motion controls... don't review a game that's based around them.

Zelda talk starts at 23:33.

This was the same episode where Shane bashed recent Zelda games for not having 'realistic facial animation' or something, wasn't it?

Ignoring any other possible issues with your scoring for the moment, I don't understand how you could possibly think there's a four point discrepancy between these two.

Yes it is.

What IS real-time facial animations, anyway?
I'm guessing that he means that sometimes character faces are "animated" by switching between head models with different expressions or that the face is one or several objects with animated textures (which might be the case in Wind Waker vs. other games with modeled expressions).

But I don't see how that's really important, especially when there's almost no need to lip-sync. :P

It's Lit, by WayForward.

And yeah, it's a fun little game.

At the risk of sounding crazy ...

am i the only one who didn't feel bothered by navi , midna or the others ?

i ..enjoyed it ..

I liked Midna, thought she was a great companion Navi not so much.

Imo, Fi is an interesting character, her cold and calculated nature has me wanting to know more about what she is and who created her so it has me intrigued. I love the fact she has information on literally every character in the world through the Z targeting a down on dpad.
