Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Three dungeons completed. Controls are great, people who can't grasp them or having difficulty with them need to learn how to play. Bird riding is fun too.

I like the bird riding with the exception of moving the Wiimote to flap the bird's wings, it always throws me off-course.

I get that a little, but it's simple enough to concentrate. I just, er, wobble through the sky!

Usually once I've got enough height I'll just glide the rest of the way, anyway. That'll cover most journeys as long as you're not going from one end of the sky to the other.

I never had that problem. :<
Maybe my arm/arm-coordination is just superb.

I'm happy for you. Doesn't change the fact that it requires that you hold the remote in the exact same orientation as you flap in order to maintain a steady course.

I've had no problems flying around the map to get to destinations. In fact, because of the lack of urgency, I find it relaxing and enjoyable. However, If the game ever requires me to catch something in a specific time limit, I'm sure there will be some degree of raging whenever I need to gain elevation.

Anyone had any luck finding the Wii remote bundle in Canada?

Yes, got mine yesterday at EB.
North Vancouver here. :P

Still haven't opened it yet though.

Playing too much Skyrim and LoL.

Plus I'm waiting for my Motion Sensor extention cable,
so I can use it with my projector, Zelda at 120" should be sweet. :P

Big review on RipTen... it's a 10
If you have any doubts in your mind, cast them aside. Zelda: Skyward Sword is easily the Wii game of the year and may just be the best game on the Wii, period. It’s arguably the best Zelda game ever made and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a title that will likely become a timeless classic that will surely be talked about for countless gaming generations to come.

Does anybody use a shield at all?
My burnt at the second dungeon and I play without it just fine.

Another question:
If I skip everything what Fi says in the dungeon and pre-dungeon areas, will I miss something significant to the plot?
Pleasy reply:)

Same reviewer who gave Uncharted 3 a C. He complains about motion controls basically being waggle at points but actually praises the lack of voice-acting.

Edit: Well shit, way late on this one. Thought I had scrolled the whole page but I missed it. Oh well, I added the Uncharted 3 bit to the conversation.

The shield bash is very useful, one bit of advice though, go see the fortune teller before going to a new area as he will give you a heads up on what you will need there.

I'm on the way to the 3rd dungeon & I've seen her say things that only she has referred to (only once though).

"Since 1998, each Legend Of Zelda game has felt like a cockeyed do-over of the best Zelda of them all: Ocarina Of Time"

Majora's Mask says "whatup?"
I'm going to stand by this till my death but I still don't see what so different about Majora's Mask. In terms of gameplay and level design, it's practically the same as Ocarina of Time. The only thing different is it's main focus which is about sidequests and side characters. I don't see how that makes things so different

Tonally, Majora's Mask is very different to the other 3D Zeldas. It's the darkest, saddest, most surreal game Nintendo have ever made.

If you honestly think Majora's Mask isn't different from OOT gameplay wise, you haven't played the game.

I would say spoilers abound but I particularly wouldn't say crazy spoilers about the story. For all those who had gripes about McShea and his review on GS, Magrino did say they were going to have a Zelda podcast explaining the review and talking about the game so here you go. Like I said, listeners beware of spoilers, though they seem to be pretty low.

Majora's what? never heard of it... jk

yeah finished the game for the third time a few months ago and the game was brilliant but I can't choose between MM and OoT both are some of the best games ever made

Personally, I love MM as a game. I view it as ALttP-LA and TWW-PH. If I put it up to the same standards as ALttP, OoT, TWW, TP and SS it would fall short though. It's a great compact game just very limited in scope. With that said I still want a MM sequel set in the SS universe. I also wanted one set in the WW universe as well.

New perfect score from Piki Geek: 5/5
All in all, Skyward Sword has finally delivered the sort of immersive experience we’ve all been craving from the Wii. There are a few hiccups here and there, with repeated environments and a few missed opportunities, but none of these are egregious enough trespasses to really take away meaningfully from the experience.

Zelda’s newest entry represents the pinnacle of what the Wii has to offer, showcasing the absolute best use of motion controls in a game yet, in a way that significantly enhances the overall experience. But even more, Skyward Sword is proof that The Legend of Zelda still has the capacity to evolve and advance even this long into its lifetime, becoming a title more than capable of standing alongside the series’ best. I can think of no more appropriate game to celebrate The Legend of Zelda’s quarter-centennial, and one can only hope that this is the start of another 25 years of Link’s adventures.

Examiner: 9/10
Innovation is Skyward Sword’s main goal and the key component in achieving innovative success stems from Wii Motion-Plus, which further immerses players as they wield Link’s sword for the first time. Nintendo’s Wii Motion-Plus delivers a highly accurate sense of control as Link mirrors your wrist motions in a virtually flawless manner. Translating your angled slashes with precision, slicing opponents in various ways, be it horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, is easy and shall come naturally.

If you hold any reservations over this control scheme, fret not as it works incredibly well and shall become second nature swiftly. Making clean, crisp motions is all you will need to ensure the game reads your motions accurately.

If you honestly think Majora's Mask isn't different from OOT most games ever made gameplay wise, you haven't played the game.

Fixed.

Seriously Majora's Mask is the kind of game that comes once in a lifetime, you only expect that level of "whackiness" (so to speak) from indie games in these days, not a major release in a long standing franchise.

Hooked Gamers 10/10

Skyward Sword is without a doubt one of the best games on the Wii, if not the best. However, it is so much more than that. The experience of playing Skyward Sword is so enthralling, with involving gameplay that revitalizes the Zelda tradition, a vibrant graphical style and probably the best soundtrack in the series, Skyward Sword is one of the best games in the Legend of Zelda series to date. The game is so highly polished, so lovingly crafted that it is near impossible to find any major complaints about it. Even gripes like an emphasis on backtracking towards the end seem miniscule given just how fun Skyward Sword is to play at all times. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is not just highly recommended, it is downright necessary to experience this game.

So much enthusiasm

I don't think I've smiled so much playing a video game. It is happiness on a disc

I think Nintendo were on happy pills when they made it
Haven't played it, but how would you compare the joyous feeling of the game to Galaxy? That game gave me major butterflies, especially at the start.
