Max Payne 3 Review Thread

Watching them play most of the sequences as if MP3 was a cover shooter and then not even using bullet time correctly when they do use it is pretty hilarious.

Congrats to everyone that will help GT meet their quota this month.

perfect. lol

Wow the random words that flash during cutscenes is a really stupid touch.

BANGING WAITRESS
TANNED
STRIPPER
CAKE

Gameplay also looks very repetitive and the story doesn't seem interesting at all. Think I'll pass.

Seems like the main complaints deal with the fact that this is basically the same game as the first two with a fresh coat of paint and new tech.

I am 175% ok with this.

So all the naysayers who declared that this was not a Max Payne game are wrong? Well colour me surprised!

Sorry, but it's a bit hard to forget about all the bullshit that surrounded the game even mere months back.
So how does it being a good game make it a good max payne game? Thats some pretty broken logic.

Synopsis of gametrailers review?

They don't seem to be big fans of the single player portion. They call out the badly scripted slow-mo set pieces, how the cover system trumps all the slow-mo diving and the best strat is doing slow-mo headshots, how aiming isn't as intuitive as it should be, the weird transition between cutscenes and gameplay(your cover is often blown because of a cutscene to mask the loading time, then the gameplay cuts back and you have a completely different weapon in your hand because...?).

They really like the multiplayer though, as most of the single player's problems don't really effect it

you people are always going, review score too high reviewer got da check!!! then now review score low, you go worthless review!!! what do you people WANT

I've disagreed with almost everything Jim Sterling has said in his reviews on games that I've played, so his reviews tend be worthless to me. Most of the things he picks on are absolutely ridiculous to me.

Those cutscenes are terrible, shame they didn't just stick with the old style.

What I don't understand about the GT review is that they said it has some of the best graphics this generation and then they give it an 8.3 on presentation. The words don't match the score.

"But Max Payne 3 is no mere tribute to action cinema. There's a chance it points toward a future in which action movies aren't merely copied by games, they are replaced."

Oh, dear god.

Odd that you got this from a few clips. Have you played a Max Payne game before?

I played about an hour of the first one last night and found it to be okay, but kind of repetitive. Nothing story wise really pulled me in and the shooting/slow-mo mechanics didn't do much for me.

Anyway, just speaking personally here. I may not know how the story plays out from just a few clips, but what I'm seeing looks pretty dumb. I can judge what I'm seeing.

I imagine they take those shitty cutscenes with the Tony Scott visual effects and random words into consideration.

edit: That Guardian quote...holy shit...

I'm most worried about the reports of bad shooting mechanics. A TPS shouldn't have controls that make it hard to accurately shoot. I always had the suspicion the europhea engine negatively affected responsive and accurate controls based off GTA4 and RDR but this just might confirm it.

Well the cutscene effects are annoying, I havent even played the game and it sucks.

And the floating words are stupid, I think everybody would rather have had comic book cutscenes then go into a SHORT real cutscene and then go into gameplay flawlessly.

What reports? It's probably journo's sucking at games OR it's really bad :p.

That's a possibility. Another one would be that after years of pop and shoot TPS the reviewer had a hard time getting used to MP's specific type of gunplay.
