im weak

could have waited for PC impressions easily

but im weak

Lol, I can't wait to read the impressions of how well this runs at launch...I won't be done downloading for another 6 hours.

I'm about where you are now. Been on since 2:15 PM, shit is crazy talk right now. Haven't had it over 1 MB/s for more than 15 minutes.

It slowed down a little bit for me the last 30 minutes of it or so, but I have it pre-loaded and ready to go now.

T-minus 2 hours baybeh!

Game's good. Good is game.

Two tips I bestow upon fellow handsome PC brethren:

1) Shootdodge like a motherfucker. It may at first seem that the game's morphed into a cover shooter, but you can freely shootdodge even when you have no bullet-time left, and with a mouse, successive pinpoint headshots will be simple to execute and glorious.

You can play the game sitting behind cover much of the time and probably get through it effectively enough, but don't do that to yourself. Enemies will tend to be aggressive in flanking, however, so it does encourage you to move around a bit. You can also murder fools while prone after shootdodging, which looks awesome and adds that extra element of badass.

2) Speaking of headshots, go for them. Enemies don't like being shot in the face. Also go for kneecaps, followed by headshots. Also go for kneecaps when you have two enemies running towards you, and the one in the back will trip over the guy in the front. Then shoot them both in the head.

From my time with the console version you can play it anyway you want. You'll NEED bullet time and shoot dodging at times, but you can play the game as mostly a cover shooter if that's what you want, and the weapons and firing effects look just as awesome at regular speed. Just beware of very aggressive enemies looking to get you back into the fray.

Depending upon the mission and my mood I'd play with varying styles from very little slow-mo to a fuckton of it every chance I got. It really depends. But I'm an old school FEAR player and still love that you can play through that entire game without using slow-mo juice. Max Payne 3 isn't that free form, but hey, you're the action choreographer here, do what looks and feels best.

The key really is this: You should either be in cover or continually in motion. Commit yourself one way or the other as half-stepping it will get you killed. Those slow-mo bullets heading your way will rip you to shit just as easily as the full speed ones, and the enemies are all better shots than you'd expect. Keep that in mind when you get that sense of invincibility in the midst of bullet-time.

Also, do not and I mean DO NOT hold down the the aim button having Max aim down the sights and slowly strafe or walk towards enemies. You will die in 5 seconds. It's not the game being cheap, it is the player being an idiot. (which some people that complained about the difficulty should consider.)

Eh, I did this and survived just fine.

Just don't be an idiot. You have tools, know when and where to use them. If you've ever played a shooter this generation, you'll be fine in Max Payne 3. The only thing really different here is A) You can slow down time bro and B) You die easily so be a little bit more cautious than ususal.

It's great being told how to play our games.

Anyway, suggestion for all the Steam users out there, run an integrity check on the game after it decrypts - Pretty big chance of a file or two going sour in a 30GB download on Steam.

Thanks for the pro tip. I have a feeling that may save me from some unwanted headaches. :P

Does it decrypt automatically after it finishes downloading? Also how long does an integrity check take?

If you pre-loaded it, I believe it starts decrypting when you restart steam or when you try to start it. Integrity checks can take 1 minutes, 5 minutes or 10 minutes ( And even longer ) depending on size and HDD speed - Longer if it finds busted files it needs to re-download.

Also, 14 minutes until unlock, woo!

Boooooooo. I have it downloading at work so I won't be able to start the decrypt. I was hoping to show up tomorrow and be able to play it right away.

UGH my preload was going at 100 kb/s and I figured it was just because of the server load so I left it for a few hours. Turns out I was connected to my router using 802.11b instead of g for some reason. Reinstalled my WIFI driver to get it to go back to g and now im downloading at 1 mb/s. Fuuu my preload would have been done by now!

I hate my internet so much. 55% DOWNLOADED...*sigh*

I think I'm just gonna pause it and go play Skyrim, and then resume it when I go to bed.

So is it 1st june in The great America Empire yet?

someone show us dat super high res 35 gb worth of textures already.

It's not too bad actually, already at 28%

EDIT: 52%
MY decryption is at 20% myself. So excited, so many years in the making and the last 2 weeks haven't been the easiest trying to avoid spoilers and what not. Sethos, I've seen you posting in quite a few MP threads, how's it feel to know it's finally here?

Or start up Skyrim alt+tab out and resume download. Then go back to Skyrim, ya get the best of both worlds my friend. Steam will initially stop D/ling when you start playing another game, but the alt+tab trick works around it.

I expect copious amounts of impressions when I wake up so that I can figure out if I should pick it up after work. I'm counting on PC Gaf

Why pause it to play Skyrim? It's not like Skyrim is a multiplayer game.

11% here.

He maybe doesn't know, about alt tabbing to resume games downloading, on steam. All games, regardless if they're single player, pause everything on steam.

I just figured it would cause a lot of thrashing / stuttering in Skyrim since it'll be DLing and installing the game in the background while I play the game.
