Max Payne 3 PC Features Detailed.

5hrs in...

Better not be corrupt when it finishes....or i'll....i'll cry.

Can't wait to try it on pc, already finsihed on 360.

Only the STEAM version have STEAM achievements. Other than that the game is ont STEAMworks at all.

Aha...

Well. Fuck.

Imagine if I had a cd-key of the game in my hand. Is there anyway for me to get the game itself other than the retailbox?

Is this the place where I can ask if my PC will run this?

I have an older processor, Core 2 Quad Q6600 running at 2.4 ghz (I used to overclock it to 3.0, but the windows no longer boots when I do for some reason).

4gb RAM, 560ti

Will I be able to run this on medium settings at a consistent 60 fps? Will it at least run better than Xbox?

Solarus is running the same processor with a lesser graphics card and he says it's running great. hasn't given any numbers though i don't believe.

he posted a screen at the bottom of the last page to show how it looks, and it looked good.

I would think so.

Not 100% sure though. Your CPU is kinda low at 2.4GHz.

Is this a straight out run-and-gun or are there other aspects to the gameplay? Can you talk to NPCs or is all the dialogue in cutscenes? Any collectibles etc?

Sounds like this is pretty well optimized (was worried about that as I think GTA 4 is a bit hit or miss on my PC). I'm running the same specs as MrCompletely only with 6GB of RAM...really tempted to pick this up.

GTA4 is CPU limited on pretty much every Q6XXX processor. i have a Q6850 and GTA4 was the one game where upgrading from an HD5870 to an HD7970 netted me no improvement at all in my framerate.

that's why i'd been sweating this release, and am very relieved to hear that Rockstar have really put the work in to get the game running properly on PC. it'd have killed me to play this at 20 - 40 fps like GTA4 was.

oh wow, they optimized the crap out of the engine. I'm getting like 200 fps on very high lol (no, it's not a cutscene)
any idea why v-sync doesn't work?

360 controller works fine. just plug it in and you're good to go.

Nice to finally have a PC version of a game done right. Other than the mouse issues, this really is a great job by R*. Perfect SLI scaling day 1, numerous settings to fiddle with...makes me look forward to GTA V PC.

Then again this is obviously a much more linear experience and maybe that's why R* was able to do such a good job...

Someone post a picture of prerendered FMV. Have they bothered to reencode those things at a higher resolution/quality?

I'd like to see this as well.

Is the transition jarring? With the console versions it was actually rather difficult to see what was FMV and what was realtime. It transitioned perfectly between the two.

Please don't mis take this for condescending but, have you ever played Max Payne? As a huge fan of the first two it's pretty faithful to those. Run n' Gun with tactical dodging. Though I've noticed that you can also play with a cover based mentality and do pretty well too. This definitely plays well to fast twitch shooting if you're capable, just like the first two MP games.

I don't know if I'd use jarring, but it's pretty noticeable to me.

So just to confirm that I got hustled :

1) I have a retail cd-key for mp3
2) It turned out to not be the steam version
3) There is nowhere ( legal ) for me to get the game with my aforementioned cdkey? Like.. I don't know, maybe rockstars's site or something?

How many of the scenes are pre-rendered video? How often do they use it?

I honestly couldn't tell on PS3 as the video compression was extremely good.

Well, if you DO have a legit key would it not be legal to download ISOs of the discs and use your key? That seems like a gray area (as you would be downloading something illegal), but if you're using a legit key to install the game I don't see a huge problem.

.

I rented the game from Gamefly on 360, and it was harder to tell the transition on there. That could be because I'm obviously not sitting right up to my TV as I am with my gaming monitor. I also have Afterburner running and when it's a pre-rendered video my fps is in the thousands, gameplay it goes back to normal levels. That also gives it away as to when there's a transition. Overall though it's still a good transition, just more noticeable than consoles IMO.

Wtf the game kept pausing automatically during the intro cutscene, weird.

Also got some kind of DX9 crash message or something like that (it was on 11 by default so *shrug*). Rockstar games on PC are always events.

guess i'll be waiting on 3D impressions for a while longer then. i don't know if it has an Nvidia profile or not, but i know they said 3D works, but that often means 'with loads of unsightly problems'.

You should probably enable v-sync and triple buffering then. If your FPS is jumping that suggest to me that you're running without it and probably seeing tearing.

Game seems to be running pretty solid for me but I can't figure out why it keeps randomly pausing by itself. It's really pissing me off.

I'm soo fucking glad this runs amazing on my PC. Didn't get to do much except shoot the first few dudes but damn, great effort by R*. Mouse issues seem slightly better after adjusting sensitivity, but could still use a fix for it. Precision is a must for this series. It looks phenomenal too, damn.

That is correct, no vsync. I get no tearing either.

I play on a 120hz monitor and get frames in the 140s+ so I don't run or need to have v-sync enabled.

Maybe if you have something in a USB port (like a BT adapter) that could be causing it. I know when I play Darksiders, if I have my BT adapter in, it constantly moves down on the menu and I can't even start the game.

There actually was a post with 3D impressions, it might have been in this thread or the ot. Poster was impressed with the 3D.

I can post some impressions when I get home in a few. I looked yesterday and it's listed as 'Not Recommended' in the NV Control Panel, but I will give it a go anyways.

For the most part it looks awesome, but there are some really low-res surfaces life the counter-top in the club with the flyer.

There are issues also with MSAA. In the first level after you drop in the pool Max has a big white outline, which I've seen again in Chapter III. And as you can see in this next shot there's still a fair bit of noticeable aliasing even though I'm running 8x.

All I have is my wireless connector but that's never caused any problems before. I'll mess around with it later, don't really have the patience right now to deal with more Rockstar PC problems.

Yep. I noticed this last night. Running it in FXAA at any setting with MSAA off makes the game look better, and gets rid of that white outline.

I'll try this in a bit. I'll likely choose to downsample and use FXAA when playing because downsampling with 4xMSAA drags my framerate to the 20s. 2x and it's in the 30s and 40s, but it doesn't do a very good job.

cool, thanks. i hear people saying games have perfect 3D all the time when they don't, so detailed impressions are good.

Hmm, I just don't like the way that looks. Even without tearing, the consistency is compromised by having a framerate that isn't perfectly in sync with the refresh rate.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess!

Finally got the game going and enjoying it so far. It doesn't feel like Max Payne though. I always got a surreal over the top vibe from the previous two games, which is definitely missing in this sequel.

I have to admit that I do own a retail copy of the game- but could only get it running with a cracked .exe.
