Sony says no to PS Vita price cut

"Oh, absolutely." Yoshida replied when we asked him whether it was too soon for a Vita price cut in 2012.

"From the value for money standpoint, we think we have a good price for what the system is. And our priority is to achieve the potential through more games and services.

"Of course people who are looking to buy are also talking about the price of PS Vita, especially when they have to buy a memory card as well. That's something we have to spend time to cost reduce and address in the future. But now, our laser focus is to increase the content and to realise the potential of the system."
Yoshida blamed Vita's sparse showing on Sony's attempt to cut the length of its press conference compared to previous years.

"As far as how our conference went - it went as well as we thought it could," he said. "I'm getting lots of tweets from people saying, 'where are PS Vita games?' That was, in retrospect, our fault - not looking at every angle when we designed the programme for the show. We have 25 new games, Vita titles, playable on the show floor.

"We could have spent more time - probably we should - showing off those games coming out this year.

"That aside, we got a very great response to our new IPs - Beyond by Quantic, and The Last of Us. So I'm very happy."

Yoshida blamed Vita's sparse showing on Sony's attempt to cut the length of its press conference compared to previous years. So let's show a 20 minute demo of fucking wonderbook.

E3 was just the Sony has no games meme all over again.

No price cut until slim revision was a pretty obvious strategy from the start and I'm glad they're sticking by it. Expect more bundles and stuff though, until more games come out.

Then nobody will buy it. I wonder if this is a possible effect of Sony corporate doing so poorly. If the parent company was healthy they would be able to afford a price cut, but maybe they can't since they're already bleeding so much.

So Sony didn't realize at all that they were sending their handheld out to die by not showing any games? Who's responsible for this clown show?

Of course you got a good response for your TBA 2013 PS3 games, how does that help the Vita from getting removed from store shelves?

The Vita is very well priced (IMO)... The only thing stopping me splashing out on it is the ridiculously overpriced memory.

I can't remember but wasn't MS' 60 minutes? Or were they all 90 minutes?

Hmm not sure, I think the MS one was also 90.
Although according to the GT live stream's schedule, it was only suppose to be a 60 min show.

What I honestly don't get is why don't they break up on the Conf like Nintendo does? I mean even if they only show/ announce footage of all the releases leaked throughout the last month, it would still been awesome to see some demo's of those games.

A- This is all bullshit. If sales continue the way they are- Sony will be forced to price cut or else retailers will stop carrying it.

B- How does Vita have no software? Assasin's Creed Liberation (looks fucking awesome), Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice, Little Big Planet, and Call of Duty are all hitting this year. On the PlayStation Cross Play front we have Battle Royale, and Sly Cooper. How does that translate to- "lol Vita sent to die." They are supporting the shit out of the system.

Honestly, what the hell do people want? 3DS and Vita should be getting the same games at the very least. However, for some reason developer's choose not to do that.

C- Yoshida is down to earth. Always appreciate that.

I can't remember but wasn't MS' 60 minutes? Or were they all 90 minutes?

I believe Sony and Microsoft's were 90 minutes. Nintendo's was like 70 minutes.

Beyond and The Last of Us? As a Vita owner I couldn't give a shit about what is coming out for my six year old system. As a Vita owner I want to know what is coming out for the system I bought 4 months ago. How about that Sony?

Sony needs to learn something called 'time management'. Nintendo can juggle showing off plenty of console and handheld games in less than 90 minutes. Sony should be able to do the same.

Beyond and The Last of Us? As a Vita owner I couldn't give a shit about what is coming out for my six year old system. As a Vita owner I want to know what is coming out for the system I bought 4 months ago. How about that Sony?

Assasin's Creed III: Liberation, Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Daze, Little Big Planet Vita, PlayStation All Star's Battle Royale, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Call of Duty DeClassified.

They are doing this alreayd with the 2 bundles they announced.

Assasin's Creed III: Liberation, Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Daze, Little Big Planet Vita, PlayStation All Star's Battle Royale, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Call of Duty DeClassified.
Whats the point of even trying?

I have to imagine that it was part of some deal to get JK Rowling on board that they had to burn a lot of time talking about it. No other sane explanation exists.

Could have used microsd, that would have reduced cost, just saying.

Then I say no to Vita.

It's a shame, I really want a Vita mostly for portable sports. Virtua Tennis, MLB the Show, Fifa, those kind of games won't ever be half as good on the 3DS.

"We could have spent more time - probably we should - showing off those games coming out this year."

Isn't this the whole fucking purpose of the show. Sitting down and planning it out, nobody thought "fuck, we forgot to put any Vita games in" and then thought to do that? Only a day after Tretton's done his thing does fucking hindsight and everyone calling their current newest product dead spur them to think "hmmm, maybe we should have..."

How Sony became this directionless is one for the corporate history books. Kaz needs to fucking light a fire under so many asses.

I really like Yoshida though. He's a very switched on guy. Kinda wish he was calling all the shots.

I think we will see sales like the one at Wal mart this week and then best buy next week. Where you buy the vita and get a $50 gift card. I would expect a permanent price cut in September. the thing with price cuts is that you have to deny and reaffirm current value up until you finally announce a price cut. They are not going to say yes to a price cut today if it is even a month or two away.

In some yars:
Sony: "Vita, mmmm... well... We made some mistakes on VITA"

It's funny that Nintendo went immediately into panic mode and cut the price significantly, which seems to have helped. Sony is kind of slow on their feet to react to the market.

Beyond and The Last of Us? As a Vita owner I couldn't give a shit about what is coming out for my six year old system. As a Vita owner I want to know what is coming out for the system I bought 4 months ago. How about that Sony?

You get spinoffs of console games, AC & Blops =\

The fact that Sony didn't even bother to show the briefest of teasers for COD for the Vita is just baffling. If the game is releasing this fall then it must have something, no matter how short, to show.

I do not understand why they would make a point of announcing this game and then showing nothing. Unless MS had an exclusive hold of COD this year.........

In other words I'm getting lots of Tweets but doing fuck all about it.

Good job everyone.

srsly how long was that book segment ? 15 min or so? it was boring and felt like forever

Yoshida is the head of worldwide studios, if it were up to him they would spend the entire show showing off first party games. He's not in charge of SCEA's press conference.

Whats the point of even trying?

I'm just trying to put things into perspective for people. I don't know what type of magical software they expect. People are clamoring for JRPGs, but in reality, that sort of software hardly moves any units.

Sony should actively look at trying to court titles that are coming or are available on 3DS. RE: Revelations, Monster Hunter, and Kingdom Hearts 3D. Take away the 3D, add higher resolution models and effects.

WONDERBOOK!

Quite frankly he's just bullshitting, if they want to have a chance to save the system this year they will need 199$ bundles with a game and a 4GB memory card in time for the holiday season. And that's just to have a chance....because I'm not convinced that spinoffs of fatigued franchises will do it.
Also yeah... they want to cut down the length of the conference, so they decided to give 15 minutes to Wonderbook and 5 minutes overall to their new platform :D
They just made a marketing mistake, he can't admit atm.

Only in hindsight? Really? When they were planning and rehearsing the press conference, they never thought for a split second that spending 25 minutes on a book move thing and a couple of minutes showing a COD 2.0 logo and a trailer for one Vita game, ACL, was a good idea?

What happened to those popular Sony sizzle reels? They couldn't make one for the Vita, with it's 25 new games?

I would hope Vita is a bridge between PS3 and PS4 like PSP was PS2/PS3. Long tail strategy and such, but still with 60
PS1
games by the end of the year.

Yoshida is a cool dude. Only a very cool person could spearhead a development of 2 new, expensive and exclusive IPs mid gen, when new IPs are bombing left and right. But I think The Last of Us and Beyond are going to pay out dividends.

Sony wants to make a profit off each unit sold. They're going to hold onto that belief until hardware becomes just cheap enough to make a profit. This is the first time they are being healthy about their ecosystem- despite what consumers may think.

Makes sense. Although that whole thing just reeked of last minute execution. Hell it was like they planned something else for that timeslot, but due to some agreement (dev pulling out/ publisher being a publisher) or whatever, they needed to 'extend' the initial reveal.

No point to cut price until they have substantial library to back it up anyway. Same people who complain about the price now will just complain about it has no games instead.

Otoh, still love mine.
