Fighting Games Weekly | June 25 - July 1

I for one welcome our new TAC overlords. Can't wait for the Iron Man infinite to show up. You just know Jokers working on it.

lol at ppl saying it was impractical, that shit is all over the place now
Not people, just Dahbomb.
He says a lot of stuff, some of which ends up being right. :p

wait a minute... doesn't zero have an untechable TAC...Can you use that to do the infinite?
Does he? Haven't heard of it.
Are you sure it isn't one of those tac feints that make the other character lock for 15 frames? Untechable tac sounds pretty op.

I also just realized that Phoenix should have a Tac infinite too. She's got an air dash, flight and air normals with good hitstun. If someone figures that out, we have instant level 5 from any TAC

Damn Mahvel y u so gdlk?

are you talking about the TAC airdash cancel into second TAC for zero? because that one i don't believe is untechable. It just makes it so you have to tech the TAC side exchange with up or down instead so it forces you to guess if you're a phoenix player.

?

Nevermind I was wrong. It got patched in umvc3. Apparently Zero, Hsienko and Shuma had untechable tac in vanilla.

It's not about whether the gameplay is solid, it's about whether it's interesting. Clockwork said it best when he said that what determines a game's longevity isn't how competitively valid it is, but how fun the game is to play. I have no doubt that SFxT would evolve to high level, solid gameplay over a year's time. But is it actually fun enough to dedicate that much time to when there are so many other fighting game options out there? The general community seems to think not.
Fun is a vauge and odd term to use; is watching an SF3 3S set where Yun, Chun or Ken are winning constantly 'fun'?
Not many have put much time in SFxT so how can this 'fun factor' be found if not much time was put into exploring the game?

A lot of people complained when Marvel came out, but while they were complaining, they were training. It's another story when people just drop the game.
What's your proof they dropped it? How do you know they're not 'secretly training'?

If the game doesn't get a fire going in your belly, something that makes you say "I want to practice this every day and dominate", it won't fare well.
Actually SFxT does make me want to 'practice this every day and dominate'.

I'll never be able to get how infinites are fun.

They're not as bad in a tag game like Marvel, but given how most of them can seem to be startable off any hit, it's land the first hit and win. I guess it's just not my thing.

When players and spectators boo when it is about to come on stream, you know no one wants to watch it. From memory the most you got at the last few majors was top 4, If that? I would be very surprised if SFxT is not damaged beyond repair now.

The entire tier list is about to change in like 1 day... fuck.

Can you imagine someone doing the Magneto infinite to build 5 bars for fucking Vergil?

Or this scenario.....

First you get hit with this Mag infinite eventually you die... 2nd character comes in gets hit with Magneto (who has 5 bars) which eventually leads to a gravity squeeze. So your ass is dead third character comes in.... gets hit and eats x-factor gravity squeeze.

What's the the current major fighting game right now with the least damaging combos/situations? Like the opposite of "get touched and die" games like Marvel? Don't they all have 50% or higher-combos?

So im listening to ultrachen archives and they forgot to shut the stream down and they are talking about personal things. Like if I heard correctly, Justin makes 6 figures?

"do you mind if I take my pants off over here"
"oh yeah that's much better now"
*really suggestive noises*

Not James, Justin.

Oh my bad... reading fail.

As for Justin is concern I'm going to assume that's plus tournament winnings. I would be shock if it was just base salary.

He does do the E3 and PAX booth for EG but damn 100,000K just for that + showing up for tournaments?

Floe does have a nice place.... but I was assuming that money was coming from elsewhere and not sponsorship.

Regardless Justin probably the only one in the FGC (player wise) that is making that much. Of course until Gootecks turns into the FGC P. Diddy and starting managing other players (you already know this is going to happen).

Thought Justin was a community manager at nexon or something

Pretty sure he said he quit that long time ago.

Alright, that stuff at the end of the cast is pretty hilarious. "At least that was a better parting gift." bahahahahaha

psst they are trolling

It should be obvious Justin isn't the type of person to go around begging money from stream monsters, so I don't see anything surprising about him getting 6 digit from his day job.

That's what I would assume. In my head I always figured Justin made like 30 maybe 40? at the most off salary and you can just add whatever he wins from money matches and tournaments on top of that since you already know that shit isn't getting taxed.

I'm more intrigue at Marn. A man who I have heard lost 10K in a week as well as won a 50 team parlay for like 32k and 50k in 3 weeks or some ridiculous shit like that.

Justin doesn't ask as much as let say FGTV or Fanatiq but he does his fair share of raffles matter of fact he ask like 20 times today.

I think he does it just to get rid of stuff he has. Have you seen how many sticks Fchamp had before he moved to FGTV? I can't imagine how many sticks justin has.

Yeah they are trolling. Rofl that was a good one.

I don't know yet, the only application of the infinite really is

1) Can I TOD a char right now

a) if yes then kill that char

b) if not then risk a TAC into an infinite.

It could possibly break the balance of the game, and make the game really lame. You really didn't see that many infinites in MvC2 outside of Ironman. Most people went for resets with MSP, instead of going for infinites with Mag. But I say let it rock at first and see how it goes. If the community deems it to be lame then it will probably be banned anyways.

Well sometimes you don't have meter to TOD a character and sometimes you want to build meter for as back up like the scenario I mentioned earlier with doing the Mag infinite to build 5 bars. Essentially giving you at least 2 more gravity squeeze on the last two characters.

Or let say you run something like Yipes team (dante/vergil/magneto) maybe someone will switch it around to dante/magneto/vergil and use the magneto inifinte to kill the first character and build meter in case magneto and dante dies so now you have dark vergil with 5 meters (got gucci belt?).

Even Marlin Pie had to use TAC into doom to kill because many times his Viper couldn't TOD let say off an air throw w/o x-factor. Then there are characters like Chun Li, Modok and Sentinel (w/o meter)which aren't exactly TOD characters so these infinites really help them out.

We let infinites rock before and it was fine.

This game is 1 touch kill anyways, just if you're good, you don't have to spend meter on it.

Infinites were hype to watch in MvC2.

If an oddity in the game that isn't a clear bug (Quicksilver glitch, wallcling glitch) is discovered, people should make use of it.

This is exactly what the game needed to keep it fresh. There are TODs out of the wazoo - infinites are just really long TODs.

I wouldn't be so sure that they'd ban it even if they felt it was lame. It's hard to get something banned in the FGC once a game is out for a while.

I see what you're saying but you're forgetting (or not mentioning) that MvC3 is a very momentum based game. Doing an infinite that takes like 30-40 seconds to kill a character gives the player getting hit enough time to think of recovery strats.

But I do agree with meter building aspect. It can be used for that but outside that I can't see why wouldn't just TOD somebody and keep the momentum if you could outside certain exceptional cases (phoenix, vergil etc). Momentum is everything for characters like Viper, Wolverine, Spencer, Zero and etc.

Yeah but not right before EVO. I wanted to see who was the best as things stood. No need to muddy the waters.

The main danger with this is it will be like the DHC glitch and not practical for a large number of the cast. I don't have a big problem with it, but if it means only 6 characters get used, not so good.
