Zombi U pics + footage

I vaguely remember someone posting during E3 that he talked to a Ubisoft rep, and that guy said they'd show a new built with improved lighting at Gamescom - so I guess that's the one we're seeing here. Anyway:

Credit goes to force143 (Consolewars). Only differences seem to be some lighting and filter tweaks and improved character models/ textures.

We're months away from seeing this game come out. I can't wait to see the final product.

Well, no one does that.
It's still a bit mind boggling that in a thread in 2012 720p/30FPS is been seen as the new "holy grail". Where were you guys the past six years? Wii only? Also, if graphics don't matter at all, why are you so excited about a normal to decent looking game? I don't understand Nintendo or Nintendo Fans anymore. :( It makes no sense.
Just because graphics arent the main priority when playing a game that nullifies ones opinions on them? You sound crazy as hell dude and what do you mean normal to decent looking game not every game is a gears or uncharted even if the WiiU is a bit more powerful than ps360 does that mean every game has to max out in the graphics department?

Honestly, though I'm sure some of the rougher stuff will be improved, I'm not entirely sure it will look much better at launch.

It's a launch game, so time is of the essence. Rarely do you have launch games that aren't rushed to some degree. Most importantly though, we're seeing the same environment over and over. These areas were likely prioritised highly in order to have something impressive to show to the public. Given the rush for launch, I suspect most of the remaining development time will be spent sprucing up areas we haven't seen.

It has multiplayer

More than just leader boards?

Edit: from Wikipedia: "Multiplayer is possible, as online friends can be alerted of a player's death to obtain the player's gear."

I don't consider leader boards and this sort of inter-game data exchange multiplayer. I understand some people do - I don't, and this sort of thing would not give the game the replay value I'm talking about.

I think the game looks awesome, I really like the permadeath and the gamepad features. I'm really looking forward to playing this. I just don't want to purchase a game that I may spend 10-15 hours on and then not play again.

Really? What kind of multiplayer?
I can't write a lot right now, but the mode I played was a capture the flag mode where the player with the gamepad was controlling it like an RTS spawning different types of zombies and the one on the pro was controlling it as a regular FPS.

From go nintendo.

Cortjezter and I lucked out during our Nintendo booth tour. We wanted to check out ZombiU, but we actually got a chance to try out the multiplayer version of the demo. That demo included use of the Wii U GamePad as well as the Wii U Pro controller. We each played both sides of the demo, and I'm still left trying to figure out which aspect of the game I liked more!

The multiplayer game was basically a version of capture the flag, but with a few modifications. There were four flag points on the map that needed to be captured. Instead of grabbing flags, you had to stand at a flag spot for a certain amount of time. Eventually this would allow you to claim the flag point for yourself, much like King of the Hill modes in other games. Sounds pretty standard until you realize how multiplayer works.

If you're playing as the survivor side of things, it's going to be you up against a never-ending army of zombies. You'll have to defend your flag points that you've captured from invading zombies, but you also need to keep them off your back as you capture flag points. Again, this all sounds like pretty standard FPS multiplayer. That's because the survivor aspect of multiplayer is. The infected side of things is much different.

Playing as the infected gives you a bird's eye view via the Wii U GamePad screen. You're looking down on the entire level, including where the flag points are. This map is also running in real time, meaning you can see where the survivor is and where they're running to. It's your job to stop them from grabbing flag points, and you do that by dropping down zombies into the level.

The GamePad player can only place zombies in areas of the map that aren't colored red. Red zones show you where you can't start a zombie off. Any other part of the map is fair game. All you do is tap a spot and that spawns a zombie in the level. You can then take a look up at the TV and watch your zombie hunt down the survivor and hopefully take them out!

Even more interesting is the fact that you have 4 different zombie types to choose from. One zombie type is super fast by easy to take down. The other types involve different power and speed levels, and using the right zombies in the right places can lead to you taking out the survivor in the middle of their plan. The perfect combination can allow you to block off the survivor from all directions and swarm all at once.

Furthermore, the zombies can actually capture flag points as well! That means you can take out the survivor to win or try to capture all four flag points as zombies. It's completely up to your own interest in strategies. I found myself really getting into the plotting of what zombie went where and then watched the TV to see how my plans played out.

I honestly was very impressed with ZombieU. The game was still rough around the edges, but that's to be expected with it being currently under development. My interest in ZombiU was on the fence until I played today. The game's multiplayer mode absolutely sold me on the title, as I found it to be truly unique and engaging, all while it put a twist on the familiar FPS multiplayer modes we all know.

I'd kill for a mode on the same lines as Zombie Survival on Garry's Mod: survivors have a set time before the first one or five zombies are unleashed. They have to barricade the rooms up and each person killed adds to the zombie count. More zombies unlocked as time ticks.

Online MP or local only? The local modes have been known

Damn that multiplayer sounds cool. I look forward to controlling some zombies! Nice to hear about the varying types too. I wonder if there is a limit to how many you can drop down though? I would assume so anyways.

Think all should be amazed it looks as good as it does for a launch game. Textures look perfectly fine to me, again, for a launch game; I certainly don't think there's anything about them that's bad. Done marvelous so maybe adds credence to other comments made about it being 'a dream' to develop for?

If it sells well, I'm sure they'd spend more time on assets for the follow up.

There's some multiplayer videos knocking about on YT, I know I've watched them before.

Maybe im alone here, but i really, really dont care about this.

it seems much more like a gimmick that will be old in a few hours than a real, meaty co-op multiplayer mode.

Its a rushed, shoehorned multiplayer mode. A clever one, but still lame.

"Here, you can play with me. Ill be shooting zombies in the head and you control this little dots on the wiiu game pad."

Im sorry, but this seems pretty stupid to me. They really should add local co-op multiplayer: One player plays on the tv, the other one on the game pad. Both shooting zombies in the head.

Eh...I hate the idea of Co op in this sort of game, so I'll take the asymmetric mode any day of the week. It would need to be reworked quite a bit to actually still be survival horror, but even still, it probably wouldn't feel as dire. Plus, one bite kills. Maybe if they split you up a LOT, but that would turn into a whole new game. I get most people probably want that type of mode though.

I suppose a standard shooter mp mode would be easy to do, but they probably won't for thematic purposes.

If 4 team mates are split up in a large area, and must regroup to complete the objective, and one bite kills, this could be really interesting. I like the idea of having brief moments of being able to see the other players on the map too, maybe through some wreckage or a fence, so you could trade supplies to help you all get their quicker? Also, if you eventually, towards the end, meet up with one other to make the final push to the end... that could be interesting.

CO-OP would also be great online as you could then have multiple players with the tablet, and with one single life.

It'd be a light-version of DayZ.

Probably stuff that will end up in ZombiU 2 (If Red Steel had a sequel, this will too).

Yep. Something entirely based around the idea of a true coop survival horror would be awesome, as would the elements you described. It just couldn't be placed in this game without a near complete overhaul. Though, I do believe the reverse could be done much easier. A game based around team elements from the jump could have a single player done pretty easily.

How would the one bite system work though in coop? It wouldn't make much sense if one of the players died, came back as a different character mid mission, then met up with the surviving character again. Story wise anyway. I would love for them play together Nightmare Mode style, but that would probably piss everyone else off lol

I've been wondering: will it always be night in ZombiU land?

Hmmm...that is a good question. I remember them making it a point to have day sections in RE4. It would be nice to see the same settings in a different lighting, if anything. Maybe have the area more torn up or something inherently different happening to give it its own feel.

Eh, this multiplayer mode has been in the game since the Killer Freaks From Outer Space days. In fact, that's what they showed off for Killer Freaks last year. I don't see how you can say it's shoehorned in or rushed.

Like everything else about the Wii U; Nintendo has no online infrastructure/strategy...

Looks like Xbox 360. Guess this confirms those rumors...

So much fail about this console... it's depressing.

:(

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one interested in completely and utterly shaming you for this.

(...)
That's not correct. First of all, they're unveiling their exact online plans this fall (along with launch date and price) and the known facts sound good so far.

Anyway, Ubisoft is free to implement online gameplay or not, there's no hindrance.

Why are those images of such low quality? Images taken from videos/trailers?
Yes.

Over and over ? They unveiled the game for real just last month, of course they gonna spread out new assets and areas over the next couple months. I would be suprised if those where already the more intriguing areas.
