London 2012 Summer Olympics |OT|

I wish British people would stop whining about it because it is just so embarrassing when they do it.

It's Britain. Whinging is the second national sport after football, and we're significantly better at it. Doesn't help that the IOC and LOCOG has made some horrifically corrupt decisions in the last few weeks (banning chips unless you're a) serving it with fish or b) McDonalds? Get out), the sense that London is the only place benefiting while everyone's paying for it (as per usual) and the whole failure that was the tickets system.

At least the BBC is pulling out all the stops. They're broadcasting everything, online, in HD, for free (if you're in the UK, or manage to make your PC look like it's in the UK).

By the way there is an IRC channel for GAF for the Olympics. No doubt this thread will be moving pretty fast, just another place to talk/idle.

Greek Athlete Voula Papachristou Has been expelled from London 2012 over racist tweet.

How the Hell NBC hasn't adapted to this by now is unbelievable. I felt sorry for those in America wanting to watch the last Winter Olympics live only to wait hours after the event ends for it to air, even in regions inside the same time zone as Vancouver.

and I guarantee you for every event they are going to put the LIVE label on it, I am pretty sure a lot of Americans won't even know these events have been over for hours already.

I am not very PC to be honest, but I can see why that might get her in le shit when she is at the biggest multinational event in the world.

Speaking of McDonald's, the world's biggest McDonald's is in the Olympic Park:

Gotta love the rampant commercialism of the olympics these days. Still, I guess they wouldn't be held without it.

Orlando is not amused! Time to build an even bigger one on I-Drive!

You're probably right (sadly). Vancouver was a pain, being 3 hours south and having to watch taped coverage. I was stoked about the live online coverage...but you have to have a full cable package to view it. Hopefully CBC will come through since I get it OTA HD.

I still like to go to media city and laugh at the whiny Londoners forced to move up here to stay at the BBC, to be fair the Booths shop at media city is fucking amazing, more of this please southern ponce's.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

winner of most mastubatory post on NeoGAF for July goes to.......KAVANAGH!

every Southerner that came up to York for uni would always say "It's grim up north" all the time on FB/IRL. They lived in York, one of the richest places in the UK, and completely unlike the rest of the north. They just have this ingrained idea that the north looks like:

when in a lot of places it looks like this:

the food is way fucking better in Manchester too

Can't blame them, I wouldn't enjoy working in Salford.

I live in Manchester

The BBC staff were ponces when they were down here and I doubt many of them are actual Londoners. Purely anecdotal but I've yet to meet one that was.

Sucks that I'm going to be stuck in the office the entire time the Olympics are going on. But at the most I'll watch what I can when I get home.

Was that really the biggest one? Been there a few times but it never struck me as being that big.

I doubt that it still was, just making a bit of a joke. At the time it was built and for quite awhile afterwards though, it was the biggest. I imagine a bigger one came along since then though (prior to this).

Why do i get the feeling this will be either a boring or a disasterous olympics

Because we're starting with one of the worst events 150 miles from the Olympic park, two days before the opening ceremony. Seriously, has this ever happened before? What a stupid idea.

The games will be fine, the typical British lack of enthusiasm and moaning won't tarnish it. Records will still be broken, there are plenty of massive rivalries to come and there will still be plenty of epic moments for the montage team to work with.

this game is terrible

im not saying women's football is terrible

every game of women's football I've ever seen has been terrible. I realise this is mostly due to a lack of investment, but it's a fact that it's way duller than the men's.

The football? This happens every Games. There are a lot of football matches to get through, dude.

Fair enough.

But it's still a terrible idea.
I don't think they have any other option. With the number of matches they have to play, I don't think they can fit them all into the 'official' days of competition.

Noticing from this match so far that women footballers don't dive even half as much as their male counterparts do.
