Probably something really stupid like it's the reason we are still in recession. Not at all because we have a government in power who believe like the Republicans do, that the private sector can always do a better job and that big government is inherently evil and wasteful. That wasn't meant to be the end of the ceremony. There was a fourth musical segment mentioned in the telegraphs opening schedule, and people on twitter have mentioned it was in the rehersals and cut from the main show due to the ceremony overrunning.

Agreed. The Beijing opening ceremony was gripping, you couldn't take the eyes off the TV.

The London one looks more geared to the domestic audience, with plenty of "what's that and why should I care" moments for everyone else. But there were great moments too...

Beijing celebrated China's history, arts and everything. The contrast is large because we're talking about two completely different culture. If you compare Zhang Yimou's and Danny Boyle's movies you'll see the same differences. That doesn't mean the Chinese are robots and the British are full of heart, people are different.

Agreed. Completely different. But, China's was all about spectacle, scale, precision and choreography. This was completely different to that, to its credit.
