Archery has always been boss. I never advanced in boy scouts but the first thing I did was get my archer badge.

Or the fact that they followed the Soviet Union's model and set up a system where very young children are sent to special state-sponsored camps where they live, eat, and breath their particular sport, away from their families, for the greater good of China.

They put extra effort into sports which have a ton of medal opportunities like Archery, Gymnastics, Weight lifting, swimming, and track and field.

in 1988 they had 5 gold medals, about the time they adopted the model. Now a generation later, they lead in Gold Medals.

Rest of the world allows parents and children to dictate the sports their children will excel in. They also live normal lives going to school and living in normal households while they train to become olympians. It's kind of unfair but the Soviet system works.
