I'm 28 now, and sabre fencers range from like 20 to 36ish, so it's ok physically. But I'm married*, will have my first kid in December, so I have to focus on my career rather then spend money on training and flying to tournaments.

*can't take part in orgies.

The only solution is to become a naturalized italian athlete and get a lifelong state sponsored salary just to train and compete. You wouldn't be the first!
