Field hockey is pretty fucking lame. Those sticks ruin any chance of it being interesting. How can this be one of the most popular sports in the world, while Bandy is like the smallest sport in the world? Why does the world hate winter sports so much? :(

I don't get what you mean? The passing and dribbling with the sticks is just as intricate as other similar sports etc.

What does popular sport even mean? Most played sport? Most watched sport / Most fans? Popular in every country of the World?

I can't watch weightlifting. I always think someone's muscle is about to rip out of their skin or their femurs are going to snap in half.

I'm in love with it. I found it way more interesting than I thought it'd be.

I'd love to try it but there are no weightlifting clubs/coaches near where I live. It sucks. Bah.

Just noticed that only 2 players from one country can enter the singles in Table Tennis. Must suck for the Chinese players, since the ITTF top 4 for both men and women are all Chinese. Feels unfair.

Uh. CTV just posted this. :x

Pretty resourceful.

What needs to be an Olympic sport is that crazy south east asian game with the net but you only use your feet and head to get the thing over. Crazy shit.

Footvolley would be neat.

Dragon Boat Racing should be an Olympic sport, it's got over a billion fans (some countries even dedicate a holiday to it), and it's popular in many countries.
I agree. People who into the sport get really into it and go for practices and tournaments and stuff. At the very least it should be considered for an additional event.

I have a few friends who are into Ultimate who wish it could be an Olympic event as well. But Dragon Boat Racing should really be up there.

I'm pretty sure that's a Magna Doodle, not an Etch a Sketch.
Hence the ":x".

Etch a Sketches have those little knobs to make the picture, right? And doodles have styluses.

Best Korea is making some noise in the snatch, clean and jerk competition. That a biathletic competition, not triathletic because I'm all about the Oxford commas.

The only thing not debatable is football being the most popular sport in the world, second place can be anything.

I don't know about that. If one accepts FIFA world cup as the global sporting event, then you have to explain the supposed American indifference. I think the only rival to FIFA being the Olympics, I would put forth the olympics 100m men's race. Just who is the fastest man alive? That basic primal contest is probably the most popular sporting event.*

*in terms of observation/participation/fame etc.

The sticks are so short, that players are forced into a perpetual low crouch which stymies movement. There is very little surface area, which may make controlling the ball more challenging, but it just renders a lot of the situations I see somewhat clumsy. Missing easy passes, dribbling yourself, and such. The most telling part was on the corner, where they used another player to stop the ball dead so another could take the shot, instead of shooting it directly.

I assume the men's matches will be more interesting, but even so, I doubt I will see anything that would not make consider this sport to be inferior to ice hockey, bandy and even floorball.

who cares about "Most popular" sports. The Olympics are a sham, for not having Jai Alai, the most dangerous game, in the olympics.
