Kazakhstan has won 2 GOLD medals! One in cycling and the other in weightlifting, achieving a world record. Seriously, I only knew about the country when I watched Borat and that film was joking about the country...but in all honestly, it's good to see the poorer countries doing soooo well in the Olympics. Britain has 1 siver medal with Armitstead doing the pentathlon, god, she was a beast. Absolute legend. Cycling for hours in the rain and keeping up the pace is amazing. Britain also has 1 Bronze from Addington, cool achievement.

Already matched their gold haul from Beijing, not sure how many more they're in contention for but that's pretty good after only two days!

Italy are probably doing the best though in terms of individual countries expectations. Germany the worst so far.

The Kazakhstan you saw in Borat is nothing like the actual country.

Worse than Canada?

North Korea doing well also.

Italy are exceeding my expectations, loving the Olympics so far. What's happened Germany? What sports do Germany do better at anyways?

Much worse, Canada have a bronze, they came 19th in Beijing. Germany have nothing as of yet and they came 5th.

Team GB arnt doing amazing either right now but then I know our strong sports are yet to come.

Quick glance at wiki, seems Equestrian, Shooting, Canoeing and a mix of others.

Turkey is also bidding for Euro 2020 and nobody (IOC or UEFA) wants or will allow Turkey to stage both tournaments. There will therefore be a lot of politicking behind the scenes and they are almost certain to be awarded either the Euros or the Olympics.

Personally, I think that Turkey will get the Euros and the Olympic bid will be between Madrid and Tokyo.

Well it's going to be Tokyo then, don't Spain handle a Olympic organisation even if the crisis is solved quickly.

Turkey should get it; it's long been overdue. Rumours are Toronto may thrown in their hat for 2024. There's a good chance 2024 will be in North America. It's just a matter of where in North American.

On these small-ass Ikea beds?

The base of those beds better be sturdy.

Brazil is hosting both within 2 years

Read up on it. It's literally against the rules of the Olympics to host another major international sporting tournament in the same year. The president of the IOC and UEFA have also publicly said that it will have to be one or the other.

Yep. Turkey is going to have a big decision to make. I think the Olympics is a no brainer, but it will be tough to throw away their bid for Euro Cup

Looking at the US cities for 2024: Chicago, Philadelphia, NYC, Dallas, LA and Tulsa (lololololololol) are all in the mix.

Other cities: Taipei, Durban, Paris, Baku, Brisbane

Other than pride or whatever, I don't see why a country would want to host the Olympics. It's a monetary sinkhole.

Its a long term investment. It puts thousands of people to work and forces radical change and development of certain areas. Infrastructure and real estate get a major overhaul that might have taken decades to get done.

Exactly, the Euro's is Turkey's back-up bid if they don't get the Olympics, which has annoyed UEFA as they are struggling to find a host. That is why Platini suggested the Euro's may be held across Europe.

I dunno what to think about Dallas getting it. Would be crazy around here.

that would be so fucking awesome if we got it.

but we'd have to start working now on public transportation and stuff. also, the sun would be a total killer

still have no idea how a city like Atlanta hosted the olympics

On TSN, Men's Basketball (US vs. France) got maybe 15-30 minutes of replay time. Women's beach volleyball (Great Britain vs. Canada) is being aired in its entirety, with a couple of commercials in between matches. I ain't complaining.
