Its a long term investment. It puts thousands of people to work and forces radical change and development of certain areas. Infrastructure and real estate get a major overhaul that might have taken decades to get done.
Mhm. The infrastructure built for the Calgary Winter Games, for example, are still in use and the city regularly hosts world championships; not to mention this opens up more opportunities for prospective athletes in the region.

Some Games have been an utter disaster for the city though (MONTREAL).

Watching Women's Archery today was really good, South Korea won Gold again but China almost beat them, was very very close. The Bronze fight was really good also, Japan just won it in the end.

Yeah. It practically killed Greece money wise but left some good things behind. What happened in Montreal?

Looking at the US cities for 2024: Chicago, Philadelphia, NYC, Dallas, LA and Tulsa (lololololololol) are all in the mix.

Other cities: Taipei, Durban, Paris, Baku, Brisbane

Brisbane?! Seriously?! Just couldn't imagine an olympics there. I would think Durban would have a shot as it'd be the first African Olympics(and it's about time they had one there), but isn't it a little small? I guess it'll go to whatever country can still afford to host one by the time it comes to awarding the games, so SA and Aus are in with a good shout. Suprised more(any) Middle Eastern countries aren't throwing their hats in the ring.

I'm pretty sure McKayla Maroney doesn't have a soul.

Look at those eyes. She's dead inside.

Everything from the semi-finals and beyond was golden.

Wiki has a blurb on the legacy. They were a financial disaster, with the city just clearing off its debt in the last decade despite hosting the Games in 1976. :lol

Hard to see in that .gif, but it was raining pretty good during that arrow shot.
The weather truly added to the moment. Hollywood could never.

The Japanese girl that wore the glasses and smiled constantly was kuwaii. First time I have ever typed that. :O

Check the splits. The French anchor would have beat anyone. Not a Lochte defender, just saying.

We went over this before in the thread but Lochte ran the slowest split out of anyone on the American team and he was supposed to be the achor. He did a shit job of it. He should have been closer to the phelps split which would have gotten us the gold

that would be so fucking awesome if we got it.

but we'd have to start working now on public transportation and stuff. also, the sun would be a total killer

still have no idea how a city like Atlanta hosted the olympics

People like to say the Coca-Cola linked helped Atlanta win lawl, but apparently the other candidates just showed up with their proposals and expected they'd easily win against a "second-tier" city like Atlanta.

Istanbul has been bidding for years and apparently Dubai also is gonna try for 2024

Just realized I can watch the Olympics live via NBColympics.com. I'm pretty pumped as I always seem to miss the stuff I want to watch. Finally, Judo, Archery, Men's Field Hockey, and Beach Volleyball in HD.

As usual, NBC doing a horrible job. I didn't see the Gymnastics event that's currently on NBC live today, what are we watching? NBC isn't saying. Is it still qualifying stuff?

Coke Still that mega sponcer after all these years. Of course they helped.

The competition was wild since it started raining pretty hard at some points, then the sun started coming out near the end but it was still raining.

Just because you can doesn't mean you will. They've been having a ton of buffering, skipping, and PC-freezing issues that they will blame on your terrible computer. Also, if it is a big event that they'll replay in prime time, you can't watch the replay online; it's live or nothing.

There using Silverlight or Flash this time around?

I'm guessing Flash, since it's still streaming via YouTube. There were lots of people commenting on the memory leak; don't know if it was in the stream or all the random junk they've got on the website.

The French just outclassed us. I don't think Phelps swimming anchor would have made a difference, given we would have been farther back in the middle of the race with Lochte swimming the second or third leg.

yeah the 1st guy, he did 37.8, Phelps did a 37.2 split and in swimming you roughly add 6/7 tenth for the flying start. (The 3rd guy did 37.7, Lochte also 37.7)

Just the last two French guys were really quick 37,3 and 36.8 (fastest of all).
