I love Lizzie Armitstead.

Interviewer "How was the race?" (she came 6th I think)

Lizzie "It was awful"

Where are you guys watching interview because I am watching the Olympic channels in HD 1-24 and all I have seen is live coverage with commentary no interviews tho.

Channels 450-473 on sky if that helps?

Btw, what are they planning to change? The pool layout is a fairly straightforward system that multiple sports use. Are they just going to alter the timings of the matches to avoid too much foreknowledge, or go back to a bracket system? I quite like the pool system really.

I don't know how the system works exactly in badminton, but something is wrong if the best teams want to lose in the last match.

Usually the best teams are at the top at the end in their group and will player weaker teams (in most sports with a pool-system).

They should all play at the same time + don't know who they will play next in the elimination phase.

Olympic spirit involves being proud of your athletes and taking their skill level into account overall when talking about them and discussing them. Just because they fail to perform to their full potential on the day doesn't take anything away from them or their abilities.

You should celebrate what she did accomplish on the largest stage during the biggest race of her life.

Christ, last time I'm gonna say this. I'm pissed off at the press practically putting a silver medal around her neck before she even started the race, that's all. I'm impressed with her effort and most of our athletes whether they win or lose.

It's their job to get people excited about events basing it off realistic possibilities.

Stop paying attention to our retarded media / ridiculous commentators and you'll likely enjoy the olympics significantly more.

I used to think the US Olympic team was the bad guy team, because the country is so large that it is unfair that they compete in so many events...

but when I learned that the US Olympic team is not directly supported by the government, and that their athletes all compete willfully with the backing of private citizens, it made me realize that, at least when compared to socialist nations, the US team is pretty 'honorable.' Especially if you believe that Daily Mail article about how Chinese children are abducted and tortured to create super athletes.

The press do this all the time and hype people up more than they should, it's what sells. Learn to ignore it and you'll enjoy the olympics a lot more.

So what are the US' chances of catching up to China in the gold count before all is said and done?

I would think we have a decent shot, since track and field has yet to kick off.

The media just goes way too far sometimes but I guess with the Olympics being at home I can understand it this time (still a bit much though)

I don't think there is any chance, as the Chinese national team is an absolute machine designed to mine for gold.

Wow, the South Koreans will go crazy after yet another ref. scandal.

Its funny, how the second a player do anything wrong, the officials are extremely fast with a harsh sentence. The second a ref. make a mistake. "nope, sorry, cannot do anything about it".

I'd like to try Badminton, Tennis is really too physical-intensive for me, Badminton on the other hand looks like it requires more mobility and less strenght.

It's very hard to fake it when both sides want to lose.

They should've stopped after they were warned. If one side continued to fake so blatantly, the winning side wouldn't be punished.

I'm not in support of this decision, the badminton format for this Olympic is shit. 16 groups for singles with 2 or 3 players in each group is just stupid, so it's the decision makers who should be fired. But the players should've expected this punishment because what they did made the everybody involved with the sport look bad and they didn't respect everyone who were watching the matches.

Fuck those badminton players. If you want to be recognized as the best, you have to beat the best. The goal should be to go undfeated, or lose with your heads held high. These guys did neither. They embarrased themselves, the sport and the olympics.

The format doesn't excuse their actions. In fact, blaming the format only further harms their reputation. Now they go home looking like fools who lacked the olympic spirit and belief in their own abilities.

There's a huge difference between a player trying to lose a match on purpose and a referee making a mistake.

David Cameron's Big Society in practice?

I think you're right. Has China lost a diving medal yet this year?

They are 3/3 gold so far. In Beijing they went 7 of 8 so they really hope to go 8 for 8 this time around. I have watched all the diving so far and their winning margins over 2nd have been massive. I believe 16 points was the closest.

Jesuschrist, watching the badminton highlights. I can't believe they allowed them to do that, glad to see the teams disqualified. What a mess.

Their chance of going 8/8 is much smaller this time around. They changed the format such that the scores from the prelim rounds don't carry over any more. 1 bad dive in the final could cost you a medal.

Alexandre Despatie will stop them!

(I can hope.)

has Froome gone yet?

A Wiggins/Froome G/S would be orgasmic
Start times (last 10):
14:55:30 - 10 - Michael Rogers (Australia)
14:57:00 - 9 - Bert Grabsch (Germany)
14:58:30 - 8 - Sylvain Chavanel (France)
15:00:00 - 7 - Chris Froome (Great Britain)
15:01:30 - 6 - Marco Pinotti (Italy)
15:03:00 - 5 - Juils Leon Sanchez (Spain)
15:04:30 - 4 - Taylor Phinney (USA)
15:06:00 - 3 - Tony Martin (Germany)
15:07:30 - 2 - Bradley Wiggins (Great Britain)
15:09:00 - 1 - Fabian Cancellara (Switzerland)

I can understand the badminton players doing it to, forge an easier path to the final or to make sure they played their countrywomen in the final to ensure gold and silver? Because that seems like a fault of the system which was exploited to maximize chances of winning.
Spirit of the game/tournament type stuff is always a bit wierd.
