USA won more gold and overall medals in swimming than in track and field at Beijing, and they are set to win even more gold this time in swimming.

Plus we have a good chance of winning another 9 golds in soccer, both volleyballs, basketball, and water polo.

Which events?
Idk. China has taken medals in swimming this year that usually go to Australia and Italy where the US is doing about the same in everything except diving.

Anyway, both countries are never going to be what the Soviet Union was when it was taking 50+ golds in games with fewer competitions.

USA will probably win the most medals, but for Gold its still all open, alot of events with strong chinese athletes are still to come. Nothing decided yet, some people here sound like they expect China not to win anything after today. Even in athletics, there is more than one Chinese Gold contender. Then there is badminton, beach volley, different gymnastics and team sports, where they can go strong.

Yeah not sure if it's just US media putting these thoughts into Americans but I don't think that the US are just going to win all the remaining medals whilst China sit and watch.

Speculation is the force of his downpedal put his overshoe in the chainring and pulled him off the saddle.

yeah it's like he took no time "learning" him at all. he speaks nothing alike.

Yeah I like Fallon but that's a really, really terrible impression and the whole segment was not funny at all.

I don't even have the option to stream the gymnastics right now. :(

Will wait for the NBC coverage tonight and abandon thread for now. This track cycling is pretty wild though!

Brit just fell off his bike in team sprint.

Deliberately fell? I know nothing about cycling, but just hearing the commentators say you can get a restart if there is an accident within the first 30 metres it made me a bit suss. He got a terrible start and it probably would've prevented them from qualifying, so why not just take a stack? Do judges look at something like that?

I don't think anyone is saying that- just that if gold's are basically tied after today (which they might be), the U.S. might have the advantage going forward. Doesn't seem unreasonable.

Lol no ones saying that. But china's only up 3 right now. And it's a pretty safe bet that the US is gonna win more golds from here on out.
