LOL, he never recovered from that kick.

I wonder why the fuck it is that no-one is asking Cameron the hard questions about this given he's using the Olympics as a springboard for his own personal gain.

If nothing else we should be able to get a guarantee of no further cuts or sales.

Yes, questions definitely need to be asked. Continuing the trend of selling school fields for housing or commercial property development is not going to help state sector schools compete with private schools.

What we need is some investment in talent spotting, once they get out there to the schools the talented kids can have membership to sports clubs paid for by the state if their parents can't afford it and if they are able to build on the potential then UK Sport can bring them in full time at 14-16. What we also need is for UK Sport to have more elite training centres, so not just in London and Manchester.

All of this needs money though, and sadly that is one thing we are short of right now. I don't think the talent spotting would be particularly expensive, but paying for memberships would be if it was done en masse. Even that is a reactive measure as it doesn't really improve state sector school sports, it just ensures that the most talented kids get the opportunity to engage in sport and fulfil their potential, but it's something that works.

So you're just a gaming nut who wants to prioritise spending to games over sports. Well boo-fucking-hoo. Let the companies monetise their product better, I support the idea of a tax break for all creative industries, but really they have to fend for themselves eventually.

Giving kids ambition to be anything other than big brother idiots or on X-Factor is where the nation is right now, we have to walk before we can run. The Olympics is a good way of showing what hard work can achieve. Telling a kid that they can be champion of the world is much easier than explaining that they can be involved in making some game if they study at uni for three years and then get lucky.

I agree that getting kids involved in science and tech and inspiring them to be scientists would be great, but really until we begin to teach programming at a primary level it seems unlikely that this is achievable.

On the tax breaks, the split hasn't been confirmed. It seems unlikely that it will be split equally three ways as gaming is a much larger industry than animation and CGI in the UK. It is likely to be £200m, £60m, £40m, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

I'm actually a software developer who got his job sidelined as a result of the economy.

It's a glorious ideal you have but until Canada and parts of US give away tax breaks to start software houses then Uk has to do more before being completely sidelined.

Also they have and or wanting to bring logical/visual programming into primary schools. There is also an agenda of getting programming clubs getting placed in primary schools. But would it be nice to move the fame hounds out of cuckoo-land? Yes but they'll still be fame hounds and the programming on TV to "Sports Factor"

Anyway thanks for the nice debate before I fall asleep.
