lol the russian high jumper did two jumps then passed so she made it to finals just seconds before her final jump.

the greek jumper got excited because the russian passed so she went to the officials and they told her its done cause she did her 3 jumps. walks away disappointed cursing in greek.

Any of Irish-GAF spot this on RTÉ last night?

interestingly there seem to be a few koreans that fight for other countries for taekwondo. i know because the UZB coach is speaking in korean.

Keri-Anne in the women's open water 10k coming up. Good chance of gold here. I know her quite well and she's a really nice girl. These conditions will suit her.

Holy crap, what is going on, why are we ahead of France in the medal table now ?

Why wouldn't you expect to be ahead of France? They're bob.

I'm Canadian and I just don't feel that connected to these summer Olympics. I thought perhaps it's because my country doesn't do that well in the summer olympics and I'm just being envious / self-centred, but I think it's the more personal side of Winter olympics without so many events and without the political angle (USSR and allies vs USA and allies, China vs USA) that makes it more impactful to me.

Like for example, I find it hard not to get emotional watching this:

There's no story so far out of these olympics that makes me feel that way. Am I just being self-centred as a Canadian and missing the heart-warming side of these olympics? Londoners, do you feel the same as that video?

As an American who just returned from a Canadian vacation, I think what you're feeling has more to do with the medal table than anything. Watching CTV, I got the sense that people were not happy with Team CN performance and there was quite a bit of personal interest puffery of bronze and silver winners in random sports. Compare that to your leading position in the Winter Games (and recent hosting) and I can see why you feel as you do.

Maybe there's no well developed men synchronized swimming and rhytmic gymnastics scene?

A sport needs to exist to make it to the Olympics.

I don't think they were trying to screw each other in the High Jump, more like people being clueless about the rules. If all of them passed they would have been all 14 in the final, so why risk your spot with a jump, not worth it.

Good lord, I had forgotten how insane Rhythm Gymnastics is. It looks so effortless how they maneuver the hoop or ball or whatever else.

The timing mechanism in the open water swim is brilliant. Each swimmer has a chip in a band on each wrist and as they pass under the timing mechanism, it automatically registers the time for each swimmer, so there are no boards to hit or anything like that. Wish they utilised that more in other events so that we could have the split times in the cycling, for example.

Yeah the first girl with the hoop made me verbally say WOW.

One girl wrapped the ball around her back that was cool.

Taekwondo's good fun.

I remember seeing an incredibly quick and massive KO. Dude collapsed and didn't move for a bit. Maybe Beijing or Athens. Anyone remember that? Can't find a video of it with so little info :(

I will sadly be missing the first half of the gold medal match (and all of the bronze), so "Good luck, Canada!" and "USA! USA! USA!" in advance.

"Is that a moorhen or a coot?". Looks like Adrian Moorhouse and Andy Jameson are from the Coulthard school of commentary.
