Funny thing is people are talking about them when they wouldn't be.

They're laughing alright.

Not when their goal was to be taken seriously.

Now, EVERY article will contain the comment "dat new games journalism" similar. And Justin McElroy has now become a punch line (if he wasn't already).

They've kneecapped themselves before they even got to the starting line.

What outrage? I see a whole lot of people making fun of them, is all.
Yeah that's about it now, but I commented way early in the thread where people seemed genuinely angry about it. The teaser was extremely pretentious, but I was referring to people who seemed to have personal vendettas against some involved with it.

Eh? What's this all about?
ghst is implying that since I work for Microsoft, and have talked about Windows 8 a bit in Windows 8 threads after being completely transparent about my employment there, I obviously have a vested interest in a documentary sponsored by Internet Explorer.

Which is fucking retarded, but whatever.

I still have some hope Polygon will be a good site. There really is no denying that their features are impressive. They have a few that are almost book size, and the layout is pretty slick. Crecente isn't bad at all, and I like Michael McWhertor. The guy went to bat for Demon's Souls time and time again, and that says a lot for me. I'm not really familiar with anyone else there except Justin, who is one of my least favorite and least trusted reviewers of all time after that NieR debacle.

Man, I keep hearing stuff like this. Maybe I'm missing something but every time I go to the website the layout looks incomprehensible. It just looks like a bunch of graphic designers trying way too hard to be "fresh" and "innovative." I can barely find anything. Maybe it looks much better on an ipad screen but on my PC it looks like total nonsense.

At least im sure polygon will never take a parody account on twitter seriously to the point of making an article about it.

(if you want to do a thread about it go ahead... i cant)

I'm so torn on this whole thing. I really don't know how to differentiate between the Justin McElroy that said "In 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand I went over a ramp, and when I went over the ramp, the ramp exploded. Video Games!" and the Justin McElroy who says that he's worried about living a trivial existence because he writes about video games.

The total self awareness in one instance and the total lack of self awareness in the other is baffling.

Sounds bipolar.

Here's a good example. I'm not talking about the Verge front page layout, which I agree, is kind of a mess.

Sure that will absolutely happen in the beginning, but this puts Polygon back on the radar.

People will go their after thr launch for lulz, And if after they launch their their tone stays extremely pretentious and they don't deliver quality content people will go away.

But if they can deliver high-quality content people will stay and all will be forgotten.

OK I'm embarrassed.

*slinks away with head down*

Carry on world, I'll be over here.

No no, don't be embarrassed. This is the essence of what's wrong with gaming journalism - you laid it bare. It's good.

I know I'm late to it, but that RPS post. Holy shit! I can only imagine how baffled UbiSoft PR would be while looking it over, "what the fuck?" going over and over in their head as they continue reading.

I just sit in front of the keyboard, and the genius falls out.

Man, what a great blog.

So I showed my roommate the video without telling him what it was. The only video game website he follows is Penny Arcade. After watching it, I asked him what the video was about.

He said, "Internet Explorer?"

I couldn't stop laughing.

Seems the idea came from business team. Which is not exactly very encouraging for the future of the site.

Of course, journalists are notoriously uneasy about becoming interview subjects themselves. How did the Polygon staff feels about being on the other end of lines of questioning? According to Mr. Grant, the idea came from the business side of the operation.

"[We] were like, 'They want to sponsor a documentary series? Awesome," he said. "'But about us? Uh, interesting.'"

40 million in venture capital, what?! And these guys are playing the "small beginnings" card? LOL

Edit: well maybe not claiming that, but seriously, you'd think they are seriously risking something big. Meh.
