Wii U Release Day Thread

Wasn't able to get one today, luckily I still had a pre-order from Best Buy Canada, it's suppose to be here tomorrow anyway.

I did get a pro controller though, feels really nice. I like how it feels more than the 360 controller but the triggers feel less robust I guess.
 
Since I got my Wii U at Walmart I have 400 dollars in credit at my local game shop. What are the best games to get apart from the obvious NSMBU?

There were probably about 80 people waiting, half with preorders, and only 3 of those just waiting (!preorder) got consoles. They could have easily made it so preorders just came at 11:30 and cashed outright away, but instead decided to make it an anxiety fueled couple of hours. I guess it's OK now, but they need a better policy or upgrades to their sales-children.

That sucks balls since I Pre-ordered at BB. Just waiting for the store to open.
 
If you want to buy, say, Mario U, do you technically have to allot for spending like $70 or can you just pay for games at the price they are listed?
 
Even though i dont intend on buying a WiiU, and even if there are no games that I want right now, this thread still makes me jealous :'(
 
Still waiting on impressions for:

Assassin's Creed 3
Black OPs 2
Darksiders 2

Any changes made to these games? How they run? I'm surprised at the lack of info out there about a lot of these games.
 
Toys R Us has their buy 1 get 1 40% off sale online now, but I'm pissed because apparently BLOPS2 isn't part of the deal. =/

I am already getting a deluxe (Nintendoland), ZombiU, and NSMBU.

I want Scribblenauts, but the other game I wanted to pair it with to get the deal was BLOPS2.

Any suggestions among what's available?

Guess everyone is too busy playing them. Meanwhile I'm still updating.
 
I got one.

I strolled into my local Kmart a few minutes after they opened and they had two standard Wii U units but no Deluxe consoles. They told me that Nintendo didn't send any Deluxes to them.

Of course, I was after the Deluxe version. So were the two people who walked in after me.

I picked it up anyway -- along with a copy of New Super Mario Bros U -- though I'm not sure if I'm going to open it up or not. I might wait on the Deluxe console and exchange this one for it.

My concerns are:

1- Deluxe Digital Promotion -- I really wanted to take advantage of this. Is it possible to pay a fee to sign up for the promotion, even if you have the standard Wii U?

2-Storage. -- Granted, I think 32GB will go fast, too, and I know that I can plug in a dedicated USB HDD for games, I really would feel better with more than 8GB of space.

3- White Console -- Not a big deal, but I do have a black TV, receiver, cable box, PS3 and 360. It would be nice to have a black WiiU, as well.

So, here it sits, unopened in my living room until I decide what to do with it.

The funny thing is: I wasn't hyped about the console at all until two days ago when I started thinking I really wanted to play Mario in HD. There are no other games announced that I feel any sort of hype for, though I know I'll certainly buy a 3D Mario game and the next Zelda.

Well, Blops 2 is looking mostly good.

We did find this (no dynamic shadows on WiiU) but it seems to be a splitscreen thing. At least that's the hope.

Yeah, I could only pre-order the basic set (have two of them coming), but I wanted the deluxe as well.

Since I'm moving to France soon, however, I might just wait and keep my basic US set and buy a Euro Deluxe set in order to have both a black and a white console. P
 
At best buy. They we're handing out tickets and the guy in front of let was gonna get the last deluxe. He says he pre ordered and I get it. Fuckyeahstickfigure.jpg
 
Finally got to check out NSMBU this morning. It took forever to download it last night which I'm assuming was due to everyone updating etc. It was <2 gb and took longer than AC 3 did on the PS3 last month. NSMBU seems pretty decent so far although visually a little bit of a let down. Not really feeling the music (what's with the "wah"s?) It really makes me want a Mario 64 style game on this in HD. That would be amazing. My daughter seems glued to the screen while I play (she's 2) and I can't wait for her to get a little bigger to have some fun on this. Just messed around some in Netflix too. This could become my main Netflix watcher with being able to watch it on the pad or TV. That is so nice. Although, at the moment the IQ seems worse than watching Netflix on the PS3. Also, the OS is so slow. I'm sure it'll get much better with updates though. Overall, I'm happy with it. The potential just seems really cool.

Wow, this is terrible. I was hoping Nintendo would get this right. I have pretty much zero faith that it will be fixed in an update. Everything on the VC is 4:3 and there are even a handful of first-party Wii games that are 4:3. What were they thinking?

It's closer to 1GB, not 5GB, but yes there is a sizeable launch day firmware update.
 
Going to stream a game or 2 of black ops 2 from the POV of the tablet before I switch to the real thing if anyone is interest I am using a Logitech C920 hd webcam it shouldnt be too bad, my streams amazing quality through the capture card but a webcam clipped to my shirt will be rough.

Does it seem like Wii U is as accessible as Wii was? Wii had one SKU, just plug it in and within minutes you were bowling.

Wii U has 2 SKUs, a more expensive price, a day one firmware update, and one of the SKUs has no game included.

I dunno man.
