Indeed. My Target in the Bronx (NY) had mostly deluxe versions. There were about 20 people on line with me, and they had more than enough for preorders and walk ins. In fact, I'm pretty sure all the people there were walk ins.

This was Nintendo's doing with the embargoes and late update

You shouldn't put out a review of something that isn't the retail product.
Might as well review an early dev kit.

Reviewers are uninformative. Though am still not sure why am suppose to think their bad, most were very positive except two who evidently decided before writing that there would be no Day 1 update.

You don't need a day 1 review, especially for hardware its a stupid way to do it imo.
A few days with the finalised system at least.

Its not Nintendo's fault. Its unimportant to them, I want reviews that inform me; I honestly don't care about the reviewers internal thoughts unless he/she explains and informs - its just a vanity article otherwise.

My source is my ass!
I'm not quite as good as counting pixels as some other GAFers, but I am sensitive to IQ and play mostly on PC and I can say that Nano Assault Neo passed the test. I just played through the first three levels and didn't notice any slowdown and, from the couch anyway, really had to make an effort to notice any jaggies. Basically, it's a good looking game and seems to run well.

Very cool thanks :)

Can't wait till i get off work tonight and pick up my Wii U.

Meanwhile, I'll be covering the launch at best buy. Curious to see how it sells today.

3 hours until I can pick up my Wii U and still not sure what game I'm getting
Me neither. I could take a gamble on Zombi U. I wish the review embargo had been at 9 AM EST not PST.

Is there a demo? Are there online leaderboards?

My update seems to be going relatively fast compared to what people are saying they are getting, then again I am probably one of the few use the Wii lan adpater with their WiiU to have a wired connection.

Well, I've got a Basic in hand for my nephew. I am officially the best step-uncle ever.

Also availed myself of the B2G1/2off deal at target. Picked up NSMBU, Scribblenauts, and BLOPS 2 (I'm renting Zombi U and Asscreed III)

BLOPS 2 looks like the superior port of the major third party games. Of course I was going to get NSMBU. And Scribblenauts was the only other game I could think of as being worth money (at $25 with the promotion).

Thought about Sing Party but EGM's review was damning. Also wish Rayman were out, since the demo was fantastic.

Now I just have to wait 2.5 hours for Best Buy to open so that I can pick up my own Deluxe edition.

I'm so happy that I manages to snag a deluxe. Target in NY off of 225th street station has a shit ton. If anyone goes to target they have a 5% discount on wii u if you have a Red Card. Just sign up before you pay for the Wii u.

Yeah I really want to see the Reviews for ZombiU too, but I think I'm leaning towards getting BLops right away and NSBMU alittle later.
Gonna stop at one of the small local electronic stores and try to get a cheap Wiimote and nunchuck

Got a Deluxe system with ZombiU and New Super Mario Bros. U at Target! Sadly, it's all for my brother. The long wait for Christmas to play it begins...

You can absolutely plug the power cord into the controller and play while it charges, that's how I did it when I started it all up.

I imagine the battery will degrade over time like any other rechargeable battery, docking it when you're done shouldn't be that detrimental.

This might be the first time I've actively looked for a larger battery solution. 3 hours is probably low balling it, but still way too low. And from photos it looks like there is plenty of space for a larger battery

Or embargoes.

An embargo on hardware is insane. How do you expect people to get interested in your console if they know nothing about it. Theres so much new stuff from nintendo, including a new online service. Most websites had nothing about the WiiU, YouTube only had old e3 clips and trailers, and I haven't even seen one commercial for the thing.

Relying on word of mouth is a lazy way to launch a console. MS will have everyone knowing their new console comes out as they will spend something like $100 million just on advertising.

No demo as far as I could see and as for leaderboards, I'm not sure. I seem to remember the 3DS version having them so I'd be surprised if they didn't make it into this version, but I'm out for the night and so can't confirm until tomorrow, and I'm sure someone else will comment on it before then.

Sony did the same thing with the Vita. Advertising seems to be better now than it was at launch, but only people in the know had a clue what the Vita is.

Yeah the update might get faster as things go Live. I doubt the Nintendo team were all hunched around last night for the press updates.

There will be some automatic/manual data control.
Am also not sure if it was the 'supposed' 5GB some people claimed but oh well.

Got 1 from ToysRUs.

Supposedly there was a line before I got there at 8:20, but they had 3 deluxe left, so after me they only had 2 left.

Drove by Best Buy and people were outside it, waiting for it to open.

So does best buy open at 10 or 11? The website says 10 but their phone system says 11. Sick of waiting to pick up my preorder.

Well guess what, the whole I won't get my pre-order thing was a big fat joke by my father.

I have my Wii U and I'll see you guys on Miiverse.

Oh, and my father will pay.

Do a drive by, mine's had a calendar on the door for a month that's listed their "Holiday" hours. Which since the calendar's been up has been 9am.

I got to my Best Buy in Fresno, CA around 10:30. There was already a line of about 30-40 people. They started handing out reserve tickets for people w/o preorders. They could only sell 20 deluxe units and ran out. Some people left. They said they had more deluxe units, but they couldn't sell them until their normal openning hours. Weird.

My preorder was from BestBuy.com, and they had trouble ringing me up. Guy tried several times before the manager told him that .com preorders were being held in the back and they had to do a special way of ringing those up. While I was waiting, the guys buying deluxe wiius #19 and #20 had trouble when the store ran out of deluxe models even though they had tickets; someone miscounted or something. They ended up taking a couple from the pile they weren't supposed to sell.

Also, as usual, they were selling geek squad coverage. It only really covered the gamepad. I thought it funny that they charged $10 extra for deluxe coverage when the only difference between gamepads is color.

Posted from Wii U. Love this browser.

So, I'm picking up nsmb u and zombi u at best buy. Should I do in store pick up or do you think it'll be easier if I just walk in and get it? My store has customer service connected to in store pick up, so I think I'd do less waiting if I just walk in and grab the games.

Oh my god. I got one! I got one!! The black one! :)

I've always wanted to do a console launch, waiting in line before the doors open.

I got to Target 15 minutes before the doors opened. There were already 6 people in front of me. Not too long after I showed up, a bunch of people started to line up in back of me.

One of the guys was saying that, throughout the country, hundreds of people were lining up at Best Buys and Walmarts.

When the doors opened, tickets were given out.

I'm just so happy I was able to get an extremely high-demand console on launch day. I've always wanted to do it, and it paid off. Well worth it. I feel like I have gold.

Looking forward to seeing how much these babies are going for on eBay.

So Toys R Us is awesome.

Got my Deluxe, a Pro Controller, TANK! TANK! TANK!, and Sonic Racing blah from there. All set up and updating now.

PROTIP: If you have an Ario TV you need to try Seiki settings in the TV Remote setup for it. They're two kmart brands, similar build and that's how I got it to work for me. Someone should tell Nintendo.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I have a feeling that for a looooong time, it's going to be impossible to just walk into a store and buy a Wii U.

Looking forward to seeing how much these babies are going for on eBay.

It seems they recently switched to "holiday hours" of opening 10 instead of 11. I can't say this is the case for all stores, but there's a decent chance you just heard an outdated message.
