Probably old, but for people looking for one, Walmart.com still has the Basics bundled with one game of your choice (seems to be all of them?) for $359: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-...xY2VJAk&sourceid=41747206192602671702&veh=aff

I honestly can't tell if people just really don't want this (games, price, whatever), if Nintendo actually managed to get a shitload out at launch, or if people just don't know that this thing is even out since there doesn't seem to have been barely any advertising for it.

I know this has been brought up a dozen times but I'm still not sure about it... how do you activate the deluxe promotion and register the console for CN coins?

average download speed according to my router is ~350kB/s

i think because nnid's are tied to the console, you don't need to activate anything...

Yeah...ok...so the OS loads in about as much time it takes to boot up the 360 it seems...I could have sworn it felt longer yesterday.

Netflix feels like it's loading faster too. This is weird. (again, probably all in my head @_@)

So... has anyone used one of these with Wii U?

I have an extra one here and was planning to use it, but I'd like to be sure if it does work.

It should definitely work, but there's a chance the Wii U won't be able to supply enough power through a single USB port. If that's the case you'll need to use a Y-cable that sucks power from two ports simultaneously.

My Gaming Impressions after a day:

Mario Brothers Wii U - Wow, didn't think I would enjoy this nearly as much as I have...The difficulty level on this game is awesome, it's perfect...This is the first time I have felt this way about a platformer since Super Mario World. A lot of reviews said that it is a mix of Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World, I didn't really feel that as much to be honest, but I feel it is it's own game.

Awesome so far, and having the ability to play it on the 2nd screen while my 3 year old watches a cartoon, is very cool.

ZombieU - Kind of dissappointed in this, not sure if it's because I've been playing so many PC shooters of late, or Halo 4, but man, these graphics are horrible...It feels like they used the flashlight mechanic as a gimmick to improve the framerate...If the textures were better, and this was running on a high end pc, this game would be so much more immersive. It's a cool idea, and I like the touch screen implementation, just found myself kind of losing interest in it while playing...Still cool idea though, and I'm hoping the 2nd time playing it, it'll click a bit more.

Nintendo Land - Very cool, classic nintendo minigames, as only Nintendo can do it...They are simply put the best game developer on the planet, magical touch is felt on this one. The FZero game is brilliant in my opinion...I saw one of the IGN previews crapping on it for the graphics, but the way it's implemented with the 2nd screen is absolutely brilliant...I would love to see a full fledged remake of Super Off Road with this mechanic, would be sick.

Sonic All Star Racing - The surprise game of the bunch for me, blown away...This game rocks! I didn't play the first version that was released a couple years ago, but this feels like a classic AM2 arcade racer...Great graphics, awesome use of the 2nd screen and tremendous characters, huge plus points for Wreck it Ralph being included....I highly recommend this to any Wii U owners looking for something fun.

I'm going to be picking up Tekken Tag later today, so will post comments later on that...Also, I purchased SMG and Zelda SS, willl update with how they look playing via the HDMI.

In the last 26ish hours, I went from not planning to getting a Wii U or really even read about it or its games to:

Wii U Deluxe - (as I said earlier, walked into a Microcenter, Sunday, over an hour past opening, and they still had them)
Mario U
Zombie U
And for backwards compatibility, games I missed -
Xenoblade Chronicles (GS had one unopened copy, employee was surprised to find it, system showed zero)
The Last Story

Its an impulse buy that lasted an entire day! lol

Yeah, that's what I was wondering.... if I need to get one of these Y-cables, or if the simple one works just fine.

You'll only get digital 5.1 (6 channel PCM) if your console is connected to an HDMI AV receiver (not only HDMI pass-through). Any other way of connecting audio will give you a maximum of Dolby Pro Logic 2 surround. This console doesn't support Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS to facilitate digital TOSLINK or coaxial connections.

If you choose stereo, your receiver may be applying prologic II, giving you surround sound. When set to 5.1, the wiiU will be sending 6 channel PCM. Does your receiver support that?

Please clarify this for me, guys.

Does the Wii U output 5.1 DD natively like the X360/PS3? And the only way to get that audio is to do pass-through on your AVR, right?

The Wii U will never output Dolby Digital 5.1 (unless a game has specifically licensed it - which most won't do). Nintendo hasn't licensed the codec for the console. If you desire digital surround, you'll need an AV receiver that decodes 6 channel PCM (which is every modern receiver) via HDMI.

Finally! I opened the Wii U Pro Controller and Assassin's Creed III before hand.

Still no delivery of my Wii U as of 3:45pm. Purolator seems to be doing a poor job of getting my deliveries to me on the day they're expected to arrive.

All these negative comments on GAF had me considering not even opening it, and simply returning it for a refund. However, I think I'll suck it up and ignore all the negativity and keep it. I'm sure I'll end up enjoying it greatly.

I saw a couple that was at Walmart have the option to buy a basic set and refused because they wanted the Deluxe version.... and were visibly upset about it.... they left with no system....

Crazy launch....

anyone tried setting up av receivers? my pioneer is not connected to my system right now, now it seems that you can add a pioneer "cable box".

If your receiver volume controls happen to reuse the same codes as a pioneer TV or other TV, you might be in luck. Otherwise you are screwed until Nintendo chooses to add receiver IR codes

Anyone have a list of Pro Controller compatible games?

Purolator suh-ucks dude, I almost always need to call them to have my buzzer number added because apparently drivers are incapable of corelating an apartment number to a buzzer number or reading the names on the board in my lobby.

I was playing Mario and was collecting coins for the 1up mushroom house. It froze on me. Not just froze but has this monotone buzz coming from the controller, I turned it off. The system was still froze. Tried holding down the power button on the system. Nothing. I had to unplug the system.

sweet got a 32gb one off of Ebay with local pick up, got me for $100 over MSRP but that is my "idiot tax" for not preordering.

Should have it tonight around 6ish :D

Yeah, hard locking seems pretty common right now. Happened to me the first time I looked at settings after the update.

Nintendo aware of long Wii U load times, freezing

Arguably one of the Wii U’s biggest weaknesses right now pertain to loading times. It takes quite awhile to boot up… well, pretty much everything. Switching between applications can take awhile. Even loading up a game isn’t the fastest.

Nintendo is aware of the long loads. It sounds like this is something that the company will be looking to improve going forward, at least.

According to Nintendo’s customer service site:

“We are aware that users are experiencing load times when they launch or switch between applications. We are exploring ways to enhance features for consumers’ overall experience.”

Some Wii U users have also been having issues with freezing and crashes. Nintendo advises the following:

Instances of system freezing are rare and unlikely to occur. If your system has frozen unexpectedly, do the following:

Reset your system by unplugging it from the wall for 10 seconds.
Ensure your system is kept current with available system updates (How to).

Old?

Hope this means we will be getting another update soon. Having to waiting 5+ minutes for the game to boot up is a real buzz kill.

Local Only? That is fucking insane to me that it's local only, this kind of game seems perfect for online play.

thats why i sold my copy, barely have anyone to play with lol, oh well i will pick it up when its cheap cause it looks fun from the videos

at least they know about the slow load problems, clicking settings shouldn't take a minute to load :(

Are they actually hard to find? I'm fairly certain all of the walmarts and targets by me have both models in stock still. Walmart.com even had the 32 GB up for order this morning (~8 AM EST).

the way it was phrased. It seems like they are not to sure that they will be fixing the OS load times issue. I think were aware of it and just didnt think anyone would give a fuck.

Anyone getting any scratching?

I have the black unit and as I moved it to a different TV this morning I noticed some scuff/scratches on the side of the console itself. Figure a little plastic polish will fix things but c'mon I've barely even had the thing for 24 hours.

Still waiting on my Sonic.

EDIT: I really like not having to deal with split screen in local co-op/vs games, at least when using the gamepad.

Anyone get the TV functionality to work with a Dynex tv?

I'm not able to change the input source.
