Ok actually, that setting didn't do much. No matter what brightness level, or whether the power saver mode is on, the screen always gets darker when I unplug it. Does this happen for everyone else? Also, this thing has rumble? Don't think I've encountered it yet in any game...

that's a normal nintendo thing.

Looks like most people are very happy in general.
Of course people are going to appear happy with their purchase. They just spent $350 plus tax to play what are essentially Wii games, but in either HD or sub-smartphone resolution. Cognitive dissonance at work.

What's got your goat?

I'm very critical of whatever I buy, no matter how much money I spend on it. I'm pretty happy with my purchase so far. Nothing mind blowing, but I'm pleased with the system.

People can't just be happy with what they've purchased?

It's amazing that I can add friends and check messages etc. without tuning the TV away from the NFL game. Off TV is definitely the Wii U's true "killer app".

Alright guys, best digital games? I don't really have much money so as to buy any retail games at the moment. I recently bought The Last Story, you see. SO! Best digital game to show off the features/most robust downloadable game?

BLOPS is a Wii game but in HD? Batman, AC3, Sonic? ZombiiU?

For some reason if I buy digital it's a got to be a game I would never trade in. To be honest, if I was Nintendo I woulda put a downloaded copy of NSMB for everyone! That being said, NSMB is the only game I currently have that I know I would never trade and it was a fairly small download size as well. If your want features I'd say zombiu if you like survival horror ( big dl though) or Nintendo land if you plan to play with others and have extra Wiimotes.

It's mostly a price issue, unfortunately - I mean eShop games.

I have just one question: How do I access Off-TV Play in the games that support it? I'm asking because there was NO sound coming from the Gamepad when I started up Epic Mickey 2, Darksiders 2, and Mass Effect 3 when I checked to make sure they work. Just not seeing how to do it with those games.

It's different from game to game. In the Sonic Racing game you do it by swiping down during a race.

Got a chance to play this for quite awhile today at a friends house, and it is fun system for sure. I still have reservations about 3rd party support with regards to Multiplatform games in the future, but for me the Wii U was always going to be the "Everybody's Second Console" like the Wii became. MiiVerse is a surprisingly cool feature and it is fun interacting in such a seemless way with complete strangers. It is basically a Official Nintendo message board, but more interactive.

I had a great time with Sonic All Stars Racing, even used the gamepad and the screen holds up fairly well. It's a little on the low res side but it is still good, and performance the game held up great on the screen. Also got to play Mario, of course, who dare play a new Nintendo system without playing a Mario game? lol Didn't play much of the main game because it had too much of a been there done that feel to it. 2D Mario to me needs a revamp, but I know it will sell like crazy and no one will care. However, it was a blast in the challenge mode. Very very challenging in that mode to get gold on events. The big surprise to me was Nintendoland. I really didn't see much appealing about this, but it is great fun. At least with a group it is, not sure how it would hold up solo.

There were some issues I have with the system. For one I don't understand how the Wii U gamepad can be bigger and thicker in some cases than tablets and even the Vita and 3DS and not have to deal with handling CPU/GPU processing and such and still only manage 3 hours of battery life. It's as if they skimped on the battery to save cost, but it woefully under performs in battery life. Speaking of battery life is there an easy way to kill the screen on the Gamepad. It at times is needlessly on, and I feel like that is not doing the battery any favors. Perhaps a standby button would be welcome? I feel like a Pro Controller is a necessity for those that want to play games for longer periods of time, which is all the more frustrating that not all games support the Pro Controller, like Mario. Nintendoland is an absolute blast with multiple people so why can't it be played online with other people? I love couch co op just as much as the next person but it can't always happen, but it would have been awesome if my friend and I could have grabbed anyone of those people in the plaza to play some Luigi's Mansion. This is supposed to be the time Nintendo takes online serious and their 2 biggest 1st party titles don't support online play. It's head scratching. Also in about 6 hours I witnessed 3 hard locks that could only be fixed by unplugging the console.

I like the console despite some problems and will gladly buy one when and IF, boy is it a big if, Monolith Soft releases there game AND it gets localized. Also, as a second console getting those Nintendo gems that are sure to drop isn't a bad thing either. Hopefully they do a better job at fostering an online community beyond the MiiVerse.

So the battery meter is dogshit. Was using gamepad only tonight during football and it was a constant 4/4 bars. Start up Sonic Racing and the red light immediately comes on, followed soon after by the Wii U pad shutting itself off. Would like a little more notice than that.

Has anybody tried any Wii VC games on an SDTV? Would be pretty cool if the machine still pushed out 240p signals.

It's kind of understandable, in the sense that Wii couldn't/shouldn't have adjusted the ratio for you (at 480P, any bars being added to the side would be lost resolution and for even older games that would have been bizzare/ugly), and now this is just an HD upscale of the Wii.

If you set the TV to 480P. I'm sure you can set it to 4:3 on your TV. You might need to use an analog cable (I don't know the exact reason why your TV denies certain resolutions 4:3 mode... it is HD resolutions or using HDMI cables? Dunno)

My TV won't let me display a 720p or 1080p signal in 4:3.

The issue is that it's an exact HD upscaling of the Wii environment... except for the Wii's video options. It'd be more acceptable if I could enter the original Wii video settings and select 4:3, with the Wii U being able to recognize that and add appropriate black bars.

As it stands, I can get this all working, but every time I want to play a 4:3 game I need to go to the Wii U settings and set the resolution of the whole system to 480p 4:3, and then adjust my TV's ratio control. And then undo all that to play a modern game. Pretty gross.

Noticed this as well in my short time with it, It would drop bars rather sharply. We would put it back on the charger for about an hour or so, then pick back up and it would be at 3 bars then an hour later we would get a warning. How long does it take to fully charge?

The biggest drain on a battery by far in any handheld device with a screen is the backlighting. Even a Vita's CPU/GPU uses a tiny amount of electricity compared to the screen lighting. So the Gamepad's battery problem is really caused by it having a large screen that can get really bright. Tablets like the iPad can have 10 hour batteries because almost the entire device *is* a battery, and they cost hundreds of dollars in large part because of that (Vita and 3DS are both famous for having really short battery lifes)

Miiverse is the Wii U's best feature from what I've played so far. I just can't keep back the disappointment I have from the lacks of mainstay online features the other consoles have, though.

The iPad uses a laptop battery though right, I think the controller is more like a cell phone lol

I want a Metroid game that is 3D on the big screen, but then in certain narrow sections, you play in 2D on the gamepad.

Sorry if it's been asked, but I can't hook my wiiu up to my wifi. Error code 103-1002. Anyone else have this problem? Otherwise pretty neat system. I hope we get some good japanese games and indie games.

Rough guess, but I think about 3 hours from dead to full. When the orange light goes out, it's full again. Mine died around 9pm tonight, so I'll see how long it takes for the orange light to go out. Regardless, what I'm seeing is that at mid-brightness with headphones on and games streaming to the pad, and the occasional break to post on Miiverse and using the browser to post here, I'm getting about 2.5 hours of battery life. I guess that's one way to ensure that kids go stop playing and go outside once in awhile.

Just curious...like what? Seems like the same stuff I have on the 360.
Miiverse is like a social network. Make text or picture posts about games, comment from within games about certain sections, follow people, give "yeahs" to posts you like, etc. PS360 has nothing like this yet.

Miiverse finally kicked in and I started adding all the friend requests (I'm very popular). Also, I go t to make my first troll-post over in the SiNG community.

Same. It BARELY dies once it gets inside my room. I was thinking of maybe rearranging somehow, but I don't know if that'll work well... =(
I had this problem too, figured it wasn't actually much of a hastle just to bring just the wii u, gamepad and the power cord along to play some mario and watch x files in bed. i'm posting this from the game pad while streaming homeland from my bedroom mac to living room ps3. aint the future grand?

UPS dropped my console off earlier this afternoon. Looking forward to joining folks in the Miiverse..wheeeeeeen this farking update finishes. Going on 5 hours now, and it's only about 70% done, it looks like. Pretty sure my internet is the culprit, though, as it's been shitty speeds all day.

Needless to say, checking on the progress bar has been excruciating. Was hoping to at least be able to set up my ID and stuff before bed, but I have to work early tomorrow. Ugh.

It's like a combination of a message board, twitter and the 3DS note sending app. (Blanking on the name)

It also has integration within games, sort of like Dark Souls messaging stuff, although I'm not sure how many games take advantage of that right now.

It has nice features like being able to see if someone has played the game or not, a distinct lack of racism, and a general fun feel full of silly pictures and such.

It's totally incomparable to anything on 360 or PS3. Were I Sony or MS I would definitely be thinking of copying it, although I think it would almost be impossible for MS given their community.

People predicted it would fall apart immediately because "lol internetz" but it works because Nntendo's customer base isn't a bunch of jerks.

:( lame. pre-ordered sept. 15 at TRU.com, still says "Item located in stock" no information on them shipping it.

ughhhh

I got a shipping notification and a tracking number tonight. Honestly thought they would fuck me since I've heard so much saying as much. Good luck.
