Microsoft Conference: Will they Bring It Like Sony Did?

I don't get why people base what has happened the last few years on what 720 will be. Usually near a consoles end you start going to casuals and expanding since you already have the core. This is what has been going on. You really expect MS to do the same when they are starting over?

Ps4 presentation was nice, but i would be disappointed if Ms doesn't top it software wise... They haven't showed much, and their 1st party efforts, while having incredible looks, haven't excited me in the least.

If they bring Killer Instinct 3, they can show all the kinect/apps garbage all they want.

Just something to think about. Rare has been MS's go to Kinect developer since Viva Pinata. If Rare really is doing Killer Instinct what do you think it will be?

Well, this time you will need more than good memory to pull off an ultra combo...;)

If by bring it you mean Killzone3 1080P , Knack and some social features? if by that i think MS should stay home i want more then that. Imagine if MS had showed social features halo and some random IP this place would be in uproar.

I think all they have to really do is show Battlefield 4 running on the actual machine (which will most likely look as good if not "better" than Killzone) and just say "this is what the machine is capable of at launch."
If/when that happens, it will click with the viewer that the performance is more than comparable at a lower price point.

All the extras like improved OS, XBL revamp, features, partnerships, new IP's, etc would just be icing on the cake, presentation wise.

No.

If it was MS instead and they announced those OS features I would pre-order one.

But MS does not have Gaikai, so it will be interesting to see what they do. Will they feature match? Or go in a different direction?

MS has there own OS features most of the sony ones have been rumored for ms the entire year.

MS actually does have a gaikai equivalent if you believe the road map. i doubt its available anytime soon as well.

That's a good thing then because these features are simply going to be awesome for us gamers. Yet some here are just dismissing them for fanboyish reasons.

I hope so!

Nothing would be cooler than watching microsoft trumping the awesome reveal that sony delivered by makeing an even more awesome reveal of their new console. Imagine: free XBL gold, 300€ release price, this and this and that cool exclusive, no rrod and all the service enhancments that you can expect from ms. Really good time to be a gamer.

I think the MS reveal will be a much tighter presentation.

I expect something closer to a hour long with less techy stuff. Console reveal, game demos / trailers some kinect shit and close with a "and one more thing.... we bought valve" or something.

I bet they also go more all out. Sony felt like they were holding back stuff but I bet MS have one or two big new games there and a megaton or two.

I also expect more new IP out of MS then sony (which wouldnt be very hard)

I'm guessing Microsoft will show more exclusives. Its the main thing thats gonna differentiate the two consoles if they're both gonna go the specs route again. That and any other online features.

Oh and they're also gonna show the actual console design. Thats already a win for them.

What exclusives will these be exactly? They didn't exactly have a ton this gen. There are likely to be even less exclusives next generation when architectures are so similar, and gaming costs going up even more. I'm betting the only thing they will have exclusive to show, is like some content for some yearly shooter.

The design of the console literally impacts absolutely nothing to do with gaming.

What online features does anyone really need that aren't there this gen or announced at the PS4 conference? Gaikai allows limitless potential for online feature and functionality.

Give me Phantom Dust 2 and that will trump anything Sony has to offer. Balls in your court Microsoft to win my loyalty.

Phantom Dust 2? Killer Instinct 3?

Nobody is going to waste time with ultra niche games like that anymore, and certainly not at the front end of a new console generation. You guys are better off buying and playing the originals.

They have a lot of ip's but it's up to them if they want to use it. They will have to if they want to grab people like they did the past gens.

KI 3 can work especially at launch. Fighters in general are niche except maybe SF. you can't rely on over saturating shooters like gears and halo especially at the start of a gen.

they will announce backwards compatibility and then win the next console generation.

only half joking there.

It'll probably be pretty bro-tacular. The worst parts of Sony's conference were sequels to Killzone and Infamous. Microsoft will have that stuff, but it'll be Halo and Forza and Gears of War or whatever.

I want to see some new IPs. Halo, Gears, and Forza do absolutely nothing for me anymore.

I feel like Sony can get away with showing new iterations of Killzone and Infamous at their event because everyone knows that their other first party studios (Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Media Molecule, etc) will have stuff to show at E3. We also know there's going to be an exclusive Final Fantasy for PS4, and Team ICO may also make an appearance.

If Microsoft is really wants to be a living room box, I don't think they will be bringing a Christmas bag full of new games.

It offers nothing right now. It's a "We hope to offer this and this and this in the future. Don't ask when, though, because we don't know, and we don't know how good it will be when we do offer it." Hurray!

halo and gears won't be there since they just got a game recently. Forza isn't even big like that.

nope too many people at microsoft drink their own koolaid to understand the mainstream opinion.

i think by having westerners take over and not allowing Trenton onstage the sony conference made a world of difference it was professional and very few parts of it were cringe-worthy. only missteps werent even real missteps and just how some presenters opening speeches such as sucker punch.

I must have missed that. All the guy did was announce that there will be a Final Fantasy announcement at E3.

ive seen people on here who actually think that MS is going to announce a panzer dragoon orta sequel at the unveiling.

No seriously, background downloading is already there, granted it runs through the cloud service like a buffer, but it still works. I really don't get what he meant by play while downloading as background downloading still covers that, unless like I said, he meant streaming the game while it was downloading.

As for the try before you buy, still not quite sure what he means by that either. The only thing I can really think of IS trial games/demos.

Lets explain it this way. You boot up the store and see that Halo 5 has just come out. With one button you are instantly playing the demo. No waiting, no downloading. Now you decide that you like this game and you buy it. You can instantly play it while it downloads in the background.

If Sony lives up to these promises it will be really cool. It will take a hell of a lot of servers on their part to make it happen. That server expense is why I suspect that Microsoft will not pursue these features at launch. They will probably wait and see how it turns out for Sony.

Assuming next-gen is anything close to this one, getting new features along the way is not something I have anything against. They certainly have the technology to do those things, they just need to implement it and setup more infrastructure for it. Still, even if it is nothing for now, it still sits at future potential. I'm not expecting Microsoft to really have any innovative and new online functionality either.

Next FF will 100% definitely not be PS4 exclusive. Square Enix isn't that stupid[citation needed]. They would have announced it as such at that point if it was.

At this point I expect a bunch of multimedia bullshit that won't be available in Europe anyways. The actual event can only be better tbh.

I don't think it'll be exclusive either but IIRC FFXIII & FFXIII-2 did not perform well enough on the 360 to really make me think "FF is going to be multi platform from now on".

Get back to me after E3 with your doubts, i will be here waiting. Its not hard or difficult to see MS endgame on this. They could never take Kinect to its full fruitation with 360 because of HW limitations and not being packaged as part of every Xbox console for developers. 720 is a whole new ballgame and we have already seen the pregame. Wii was just a motion control device, MS views and is treating Kinect as something much more and fully ingrained. 720 is their fully realized platform for it. If people are thinking just games in this regard you are thinking to small. Everything you do, watch or play will be through Kinect. As far as MS will be concerned anyways.

So during E3 when there are a shitload of 1st and 3rd party games that only use Kinect for things like voice commands and whatever built in system functionality (ala record your face while playing or some shit) are you still going to say Xbox is a Kinect machine? Are you really expecting the next Halo or Gears or Forza to be completely Kinectified?

That may be so, though I'm sure they would do well enough to make them money. With the PC architecture being in both (at least supposedly so far) of the next-gen consoles, I imagine the engine will work with each of them without lots of extra effort.

I guess we will find out for sure at E3 though.

Leaks had the next Xbox supporting play while installing from disc. If it turns out to be true, that means they definitely aren't far off from doing the same over a network.

if people think that Sony somehow has their new "Features" cornered, they are deluded

Of course 720 will have all of those dashboard conveniences and more

not only have they proven that the user experience is king and not only do they have the experience and engineers to make it happen, they pioneered MOST all of the dash features on consoles today.

so to think anything we saw at Sony conference will be exclusive to it is not reasonable

"Where have you gone
Velocity Girl?
OurColony turns its lonely eyes to you.
Woo Woo Woo
What's that you say? Mr Allard?
Wallace Guyford has left and gone away?
Hey Hey Hey (Hey Hey Hey)"

Some MS exec made a really snappy comment right after Sony announced their Feb 20th event, saying that "It's not about who makes the most noise, but who impresses the most." ...or something.

That made me think they're sitting on something big.
lol...

Personally, I don't expect any third party to make exclusives in this day and age unless they were given a hat full of money.

Microsoft can afford to fill hats with money. I'm expecting them to do so.

Other than the massive server infrastructure needed. To make streaming work, you need to have servers near population centers. Can't change the speed of light and all that. Microsoft could absolutely do it, they have the money and the talent, hell I would bet on them doing a better job of it than Sony if they did it. I just don't think they will.

I don't think I ever said that Sony had any features cornered? This isn't really even Sony we are talking about it is Gaikai, who Sony purchased. Which was a good idea for them, because they obviously had a hard time wrapping their heads around this whole internet thing.

And again, what Sony is doing with streaming is really expensive/risky. There is a reason they were so noncommittal about these features. People focus on the 8GB DDR5!!!! being pricey, but I think that pales in comparison to the cost of building out the type of streaming they are talking about.

They also have 4 new IPs they're working on. I'm hoping the lack of 360 exclusives lately is because all of those people are working on 720 games.

Just don't push any streaming bullshit. Gaiki sounds like one of the shittiest, scummest, most garbage intutives any gaming company has tried to push. Way worse than kinect.
