Microsoft Conference: Will they Bring It Like Sony Did?

All microsoft has to do is walk out. Say hey who saw the PS conference. Then say we have all that plus BC, and it records Video of not only your games but anything on your cable tv. You will be really happy with the DVR because you won't want watch tv when you can be playing these games! Show Black Tusk game, Destiny with exclusive content, The Last Guardian(Just messing), PGR 5, Crackdown 3 by a new studio, COD MW4, Halo footage. Forza 5, and RYSE, also return of 1vs100.

Still get a 5/10 on GAF.
I kid

You do realize Sony has games that are at retail that are bundles as well riight.

That means not only are these games selling at Retail and for your info Kindct Sports was the best selling Kindct game by far before any bundle that you pretend encompassed 10 games that have sold over a million.

Still waiting on the name of this fake Kinect Karaoke game that you made up out of thin air that you claim that is all Microsoft is going to show.

Not sure why your harping on it, replace "Karaoke" with "dance game" if its really that important.

Also, they have a Karaoke Kinect game, check the Marketplace.

The big difference here is that Sony didn't push move very hard, or at least nowhere near as hard as MS pushed Kinect.

Nobody expected any move games to sell super crazy good. People DID expect the big name Kinect titles to sell well and some of them bombed hard.

Sony absolutely tried to push Move hard, its just that nobody wanted it. People just saw it as a Wii copy cat and they already had a Wii so why bother.

Sony pushed Move and it was a catastrophic failure so they dropped it, Microsoft pushed Kinect and people actually took to it. Thats the difference and why MS continued with Kinect.

Man, again every anti-Kinect argument appears to forget the difference that will be made when its a pack in vs. a peripheral introduced late into the generation. It's a completely different ball game for developers.

I'm on record as being a long time Microsoft fan. Xbox 360 was great in 2005, and it gave me 5.5 years of awesome gaming. I didn't mind paying for XBL gold, cause the party experience was just so good for games like COD and Halo. I loved it.

Microsoft's focus-shift to Kinect, and the living room entertainment box, rubbed me the wrong way. Not because I didn't want my 360 to be more robust, it's just that I thought they were basically stalling on delivering the next generation of gaming hardware and justifying it by telling me how much better Kinect would make my gaming experiences, etc.

The end result was, Microsoft and their casual/kinect focus/stalling just drove me back to PC.
So I'm sittin here with dual 7970s and loving Steam and PC gaming. Yet, I long for a new console.
Sony impressed the hell out of me with what they have announced. Their focus, and their hardware. I'm still worried about PSN, and if it can deliver the same way XBL does for gaming with friends. Time will tell. But right now I'm at least leaning toward giving PS4 a purchase on launch.

Microsoft needs to impress the hell out of me in order to sway me back into their court. I don't want a dash board riddled with advertisements, cramming this Zune song/movie and that kinect function and some other avatar sale item down my throat. I want my dash clean, elegant, and completely customizable. I want powerful gaming hardware, and I don't want to be bothered with Kinect. I want to be able to opt out of it, in all things. I don't care if its sophisticated enough to estimate my penis size based on crotch bulge (hint: it's small) or if it tracks my dance moves better, or whatever .. So I hope MS's gaming focus isn't as kinect centric as I'm hearing.

I want a sick ass game console that's as powerful or more than my gaming PC, is focused on the kinds of games I like, that has apps for doing other things I love, but lets me choose things like the content I have displayed on my dashboard and how I want to interact with the system.

If they drag out Destiny, it will seem like a "me too" thing after Sony had it at theirs and have exclusive content. Also seeing as Bungie dont seem to want to show any footage of the game id much rather MS didnt waste time on it.

False don't make up fake standards for Kinect that somebow does t exist for ANY console.

When Sony showed off Move that year people thought it would be a success period. When people saw Sorcery it got nothing but love.

The fact is the Pachter and the media thought Kinect would fail on arrival and it didnt. The fact is in this very thread you and others are trying to pretend that millions upon millions of standalone Kinects didn't sell.

In fact you tried so hard to denounce Kinect that you made up an entire Kinecf game that doesnt exist.

Regardless of how people feel a out the device it's prove. To have contributed largely to the success of the 369 very late in it's console life.

Despite how many Sony fans bash any Kinect games and use as much hyperbole to pretend it doesn't work, it does.

No matter how people spin it if No Kinect game worked and lived up to the negativity on forums, it would have done Tony Hawk numbers.

All Kinect games aren't successful just like all non-motion control retail games with over 3 times The install base don't sell as well.

I wouldn't be mad if this happened. Especially 1 vs 100, megaton.

Project Gotham lead Ged Talbot has found a new home at Sony's Evolution Studios, developer of the Motorstorm series, CVG understands.

And now, Evolution Studios presents Drive Club.

Im sure a game name pgr5 is what i said not who made pgr. But if that adds to the dicussion ok man.

Am I the only one that feels like Microsoft destroyed both Nintendo and Sony during this generation? If anything, Sony and Nintendo both need to pull some more impressive stuff soon to stop me from automatically buying the new X-Box day 1. Wii U is cool but is so slow right now and I still feel Sony has a lot to learn from Microsoft about user experience across the Internet.

I'm in the same boat, unless MS can pull off a show stopper I'll be getting the PS4. Though if Sony launches at 599 I probably won't get either until a price drop or two.

Cool story.

That's your experience. Your simply not the type of core 360 gamer that MS should target at all.

I'm going be just me. I owned a 360 since launch, 5 and a half years later I can't even imagine the ridiculous amount of games I owned from retail and as well as XBLA. I can't one core Halo, Gears, and Call of Duty fan I have ever come across from friends to family that would literally drop their 360 completely 2 months after Halo Reach came out and Gears 3 was intially slated to come 1st quarter the following year for an optional device that you werent forced to buy in any way.

In fact, I remember and still remember seeing friends who were core 360 gamers that prestige at least 5 to 6 time per Call of Duty, own every big exclusive and major core multi, who were the ones who had huge achievements on Dance Central etc.

Again I'm talking fans of these games, not the guys we see on here that own 2 games and don't actually play their 360.

That would be like a Sony fan getting rid of their PS3 because of EyePet and Start the Party or a casual Nintendo fan who wouldnt by a Wii-U because Zombie-U was a launch title.

Possible by any stretch of the imagination, but highly improbable.

MS shouldn't target some minute fanbase that hates on them for releasing the biggest core exclusives while expanding their audience with an optional device.

Again, they need to go after their true core install base and expand/innovate on what made them successful.

Theres nothing wrong with being a PC gamer from now on though if that's your preference.

Wonderbook, Move, and the Eye Toy are not even close to the same thing as Kinect in determining the philosophy between both companies.

Sony clearly developed all those properties merely to say they had a Wii Mote! a Camera! and VR!

They don't care if developers utilize them whatsoever they just create them so the casual gamer can look at the back of the box and say - "Hey the PS3 plays blu-ray movies and has a Wii-Mote Ill get that!"

I have said it before and I will say it again they are a bulletpoint company.

Kinect however, is paramount to MS. It is the foundation for the next system. It is the driving feature behind the OS. It is going to be the pillar of Durango.

People that are simply throwing out "Sony bias" have a really narrow view of the differences.

That being said I think Kinect 2.0 could be really amazing and the amount of integration it is going to have on the OS will open up all kinds of possibilities I am sure we are not even thinking of.

That's very true, but that also means that as long as sony sees it that way they are never realizing the full potential their tech holds.

If Ms can make kinect 2.0 deliver a compelling experience than sony will be left behind playing catch up trying to get that as an after though on it's console, not much different from what it did to Ps3's online/social capabilities this gen. (Trophies, game invites, system wide chat, etc), or like in the first wave of Ps3 1st party games where supporting the motion sensors in sixaxis seemed as much as a requirement for their devs just to counter the Wii motion gaming.

Gaf just keeps on delivering today.

Sony absolutely pushed Move as hard as they could. They wanted the casual audiences money.

Sony tried to make a better Wiimote and nobody cared.
Microsoft went a different route, and people bought it.
Thats all there is to it.

Even if Sony didnt push it hard enough like you say..is Sony wasting money on a fairly expensive peripheral really something to brag about? The goal is to be successful.

I really don't think MS will push Kinect as hard as some people think. IF they bundle it in the box with every NextBox they will not have to try and sell it as hard as they have the last couple of years. I'm thinking services/features and an OK amount of games will be on the agenda. And having had the opportunity to get a look at what Sony did they may even show the console to try and steal some thunder/mind share before E3.

Claiming that Sony didn't push Move very hard is ridiculous.

You must be forgetting about E3 2010 where they made a huge deal about their Coca-Cola partnership and called it "One of the biggest brand partnerships Sony has ever had". And 'blanketing the country' with Move kiosks. Or all of the commercials with Kevin Butler making fun of Wii and Kinect. The Move console bundles. All of the Sony first party titles that were either built specifiially for Move controls or were updated for Move like LBP2.

And then just last week where they announced Move controllers would work on the PS4, and showed a Move demo from Media Molecule, and revealed they will be bundling every PS4 with a camera (just like Microsoft is supposedly doing with Kinect). It certainly looks like it will be a big focus of the next Playstation.

Since this is now the active thread:

Please excuse my crystal ball antics but:

Microsoft will win this - the hype, the media, the sales, you name it. Pressure is high, and they know they need gamers on their side.

What brings gamers? Games! Exclusive games! Blockbuster Exclusive games!

It does not matter how badly they fuck up any and all talk on hardware and business practices. Here are the games, we made sure no one else has them, buy our shit.

In my mind, there is no possible scenario where Sony can one-up MS in that regard.
If it comes down to games, particularly exclusives, I don't like Microsoft's chances. Of the big three, MS has to rely on third parties the most by far. Halo is literally the only blockbuster IP they own.

And yet all Sony could muster up were two tired IPs and a bunch of multiplatform games.. What great exclusive did they give us last holidays? PSABR? LOL.

Isn't "Cool story Bro"ing people bannable?

Respectfully, your analogy about eye pet misses my point.. I said Microsoft rubbed me the wrong with with their shift toward casual, kinect focused kinect enabled kinect centric kinect kinect. I felt they were stalling the next gen, frankly, under the pretense that this web cam peripheral was what I wanted/needed at this stage of the console life cycle... I didn't like the direction they were taking, which was basically 2 more years of focusing on reaching the clappers/dancers/steppers and sticking the graphics divas (read: me) with old tech and rehashed CODs.

Again, it wasn't that I had anything against making Xbox better, or more robust - but Kinect did neither of those things *for me*. I just made me bitter that because of this trash, I'd have to wait years longer for new console hardware. And it drove me back to the PC.

Because EA won't release NHL Hockey on PC, I still have to lean on my console for hockey. But I can't get past the long load times, unskippable screens of loading, reading, saving, loading loading. Kinect didn't make my games load any faster. It didn't make the framerates better, or the graphics. Or improve my satisfaction with the console in any way. If anything, the games were taking longer and longer to get into, from when you power on to when the puck finally drops.

Everything on PC is near instant. Consoles need to be more like this, and Sony has already said they've made this a huge priority in their press event. I find this very encouraging. I hope Microsoft pays attention.

8 years is a long time. I intend on giving Microsoft every opportunity to sell me on their new console. Just as I do with Sony. But the first words out their mouth had better not be "Kinect 2.0".

"Xbox 360 2.0" or "Xbox Live 2.0" sure. I want to hear about customizable dashboards, quantum leaps in graphics performance, solid state drive and expandable HD options..I want the focus to be on games, and on winning me back. Flailing my hands and yelling orders and swiping and clapping to a camera is all well and good, but I'm not willing to shell out $100 extra just so I can have that "immersion". If it can track 10,000 fingers or just 10, I could not care less. Does it make my console boot faster?

Anyways I digress. I want MS to wow me with their hardware, and impress me with their renewed focus on (I hate this term) core gaming, core gamers. XBL should be blowing us away by now, instead of leaving us wondering why we're still paying *extra* for it. There's lost Microsoft can do to make me care about Xbox 720/Inifnity. Kinect 2.0 is about as enticing to me as detachable faceplates.

I would be extremely disappointed if that was the game lineup. Crackdown would be the only interesting thing and after 2 I'm not sure how interesting it would be.

And yet all Sony could muster up were two tired IPs and a bunch of multiplatform games.. What great exclusive did they give us last holidays? PSABR? LOL.

Sad thing is what happened to those devs after they made those exclusives. Even the great David Jafee was reduced to iOS games.

Crackdown 3...PLEASE YES!

Double negative? I was talking about the person you quoted, "no way it won't". I wasn't criticizing you.

My apologies I should have realized that when I couldn't understand one thing that other guy posted.

Sad thing is what happened to those devs after they made those exclusives. Even the great David Jafee was reduced to iOS games.

It was Jaffe's choice to leave the big leagues.

Top Bottom
