Giant Bomb Thread #4: A thread of perceived slights

God, what a joke of a site GameTrailers is having ad breaks within 13 minutes of piddly video content. That's after forcing you to watch ads before the content even starts no less.
Yeah, when you see shit like that, you kinda appreciate Giant Bomb more for how much CBSi meddling they must be resisting.

So how would people feel if say TNT was brought to you by Coors and they mentioned this a couple times during the show and had a pack of Coors on the table? I know Jeff mentioned on his tumblr once upon a time about not being completely against some kind of corporate sponsorship if it wasn't too obnoxious but after the whole Doritos-gate thing I don't know if that would be received well. I'd totally take that over mid-video commercial interrupts like that GT stuff though.

IIRC Jeff already shot it down due to age issues (apparently the average viewership age didn't reach the target needed to do something like that)

Legally, you need to be able to prove that a certain percentage of your audience is over 21 in order to accept alcohol advertising. Last I heard, our average was jusssst short of the line.

Doritosgate wasn't about the Doritos (it just made a good meme), it was the Halo co-promotion that made it ugly.

It would be great if GB could land some type of fast food sponsorship (Jeff said alcohol is not possible because slightly too much of their viewer base is under 21) but I don't think they're big enough.

Almost anything is better than having to take publisher ad money. Publishers have far too much control over the industry as it is.

Oh yeah I forgot about the Halo tie-in part. Hmm no alcohol, so Giant Bomb brought to you by O'Douls?

It'd be pretty funny if they got sponsored by a fast food joint they've bashed on the bombcast. "TNT is brought to you tonight by Popeyes. Love that chicken from Popeyes."

If they did I'm sure they would find a way to plug it organically. The whole issue with GT is how phoney and obtrusive it feels to be thrust out of their content for some premade, generic advertisements. And, like I said before, an ad for every 7 minutes of content (going by that video) is pathetic.

IIRC Jeff already shot it down due to age issues (apparently the average viewership age didn't reach the target needed to do something like that)

I wonder if they factor in their overseas audience for that metric, that should bring the bar down some in theory.

Injustice this week and thankfully no Hawkman in sight. Fuck that guy.

You know. I hadn't thought about ME3 much since I decided it wasn't worth the effort around 11 months ago. However, this new DLC was finally, finally, finally making me consider looking into putting the disc back into my 360. The general enthusiasm from Giant Bomb was enough to make me think, "what the hey, I'll try it after my semester is done."

In two minutes, this video managed to completely and utterly unsell me on giving them 15 dollars. And I romanced Tali.

I haven't played ME3 (or any ME for that matter) and I still don't understand why the ending is bad. Yes, its out of context and I really don't get the backlash however I read it. Haven't games like Rage done that?

Citadel's still pretty good brah.

I'm of the mind that almost all of the party cutscenes are self-referential spirals of the writers just getting drunk and thinking up some funny stuff.

ME is a heavily narrative driven series, so the ending already not being good gets amplified by expectation. Bad endings are a dime a dozen.

I played 2 and 3 but I'm in the same camp. I think maybe people are so upset because
the three different endings are pretty much identical but with different colored backgrounds making the "choice" at the end not very meaningful.
I'm not sure though. I didn't pay attention to the story in 3 as much as I did 2.

Listening to last week's podcast.... (april 9th) is Patrick confusing Take 2 Interactive with 2K games? 2K is the bioshock one, not Take 2.

Problem is. We already did that and shat on it from a great height

The design was obnoxious, but more people were appalled that "How dare they take that junk food garbage into our precious gaming sanctum" and IGN dropped it. And if the readers react baldy to that, then the other fast food/junk food places are going to say "Fuck this shit, we out" while the editors are only left with publishers. It's not an easy fight to win.

They spend 2.9 games explaining why things work the way they do even if it is bullshit science.

The end of 3? IDK SPACE MAGIK!!!!!

It's insulting and inconsistent with what was good about the series.

Imagine you were eating a piece of pie and the last bite was literal shit. Would it still be good pie? No.

I have not been able to post on GB for several day, I get this error message:

"You are not allowed to post because your content has been flagged too many times."

I have tried posting on a few of the mods walls, but no response.

Has anyone else have this happen before?

one of my last comments before this started happening (the DOTA TNT was kind of rough production wise):

"Don't think I will be watching this, this is a little too rough on the production side, glad they are getting ambitious with it though! Look forward to seeing bigger TNTs like this."

What gives?

I've had a similar issue at some point in the past where my "karma" (whatever that is) was too low for me to create threads. Still no idea how I got to that point but after sending pms to a couple of staff and mods one of the mods bumped me back up to normal.

That sounds more like an error rather than people actually flagging you. Also, if I'm remembering correctly, if you've been flagging people, your "karma" also goes down.

I'm listening to old Bombcasts, and Ryan said he cut the Nintendo downloads segment because he didn't want 2 and a half hour podcasts every week. Now we're at 3-hours every week. Pretty funny.

Also on old podcasts, Ryan exclaims that he'd totally be down with drinking human milk...

I thought finishing Mass Effect 3 so I could concentrate on my college work was a smart idea but now its all I can think about.

Oh man. Maybe I shouldn't listen to those GOTY podcasts because that might just make it worse.

That's why somebody brought him breast milk at PAX... It wasn't just a random joke out of nowhere.

I think the "anonymous breast milk" discussion was on a separate podcast, though. So, potentially, Ryan has said on more than one occasion that he'd be okay with drinking human milk.

We are talking about a grown man who love the sensation of sitting naked on a cake after all.

Jesus, if something that neutral gets you downvoted into oblivion then I'm glad there's no association between my GB account and my GAF account. I'd be wiped from the face of the Earth.

Welcome to the hole. Don't bother trying to dig yourself out for at least 3 months.

"Hey guys, Indoctrination theory! Marauder Shields tried to save us all! This was all totally on purpose, no way Bioware wrote such a terrible story!

...right?"

It's weird watching me play DOTA 2 on UF. I was playing as the dumb Tidehunter that kept dying. At least Vinny said my silly username. It's also weird since I've gotten a whole lot better over the weekend.

I think I have a handle on things since I have a year of internet craziness to google through.

But I dont really have a problem with the conclusion. Its more the way it was presented.

If leviathan was a late game mission that lead into the final missions and you knew
the origins of the reapers, the catalyst and the cycle before going to earth and your mission was to confront the AI that controls the reapers
I bet people would have been happier with the conclusion.

I guess the green ending is still dumb no matter what but the other endings would make sense.

They have all the bits for a fun conclusion to the series but instead of being in the game it was sold for $10 and it doesn't fit into the story as tightly as it should since it was tweaked to be DLC and the whole thing just comes across like a bit of a mess.

I see the vision but they just couldn't do it because EA forced them to ship before the end of a fiscal. Its a shame.

Anyway. Future Mass effect game here is my basic pitch.

Its set in the far, far FAR future. The reapers are nothing but a myth you hear about once or twice but its nothing to do with the story. Maybe shep blew them up, maybe shep took control and they left the galaxy at some point, Maybe shep did nothing and another cycle fixed everything. No one knows because it happened like 10,000 years ago and it was forgotten. Green Ending is dumb so pretend it never happened
