Destiny Gameplay Premiere

Hmm, I want to see a challenging section, as god mode demos rarely impress me, even if I understand the necessity for them.
I hope there's consequence to death too, and not just in-game money lost.

I'll say what i said in HolaGAF:

Destiny did not impress me. Rather disappointing, considering how awesome the world seems to be.
Its gameplay is... lacking. It will be just fine (like Reach is, ignoring what happens when Reach mechanics meet player versus player combat) but it doesn't look like truly interesting FPS (outside the world). Weak, slow, not very intensive encounters.
I'm sure Bungie will manage to make it have good controls and have generally everything working just fine but... It looks like it needs something more.
Sure, this is an early build still, but i doubt things will change that much for the retail.

Kinda got this same feel from the reveal and the CGI trailer as well, cool world but... meh otherwise. And now E3 gameplay left me with the same feeling.

I reckon i will play it though. Assuming they don't reveal something completely idiotic later this year (or next year) about the game.

EDIT frankly, Halo 4 impressed me much, much more. Visually and gameplay-wise.
We need to see proper footage of Destiny, with no scripting of any sort for the players, good players*, and highish difficulty (assuming the game does offer difficulty levels), and more open areas (assuming it has those).

*Seriously, all games are much more interesting to watch with good players playing the game, with no stupid scripting in their actions.

Sounded like "Shut Up and Get Behind Me" was the name of Jones' gun, which is all I need (along with the previously revealed assault rifle named "Super Good Advice") to see in order to know that this will have the Bungie charm that I appreciate so much.
Yup. :)

Looks like fun. Christmas 2014?

Who knows...
I'm hoping for Spring 2014.

Ok, I haven't read too many posts in this thread. I wanted to post this yesterday. Up until Halo, the only console shooter I enjoyed was Rare's Perfect Dark. Bungie crafted such an awesome universe with Halo, I read all the books, played all the games up until Halo Anniversary (sold the 360 before Halo 4).

I was hyped for Destiny, and with Bungie behind the helm, I knew it would be a grand sci-fi universe with deep canon and great gameplay and excellent atmosphere. All the media and Gaf were hyping this thing up like it's the next Half Life 2 or something.

But that gameplay demo....looked like Borderlands with some Halo art styles mixed in, and some MMO mixed in. It still looks great and I will probably buy it (if it's not announced for PC then I will get it for PS4), but nothing about it screams "revolutionary", "true next gen", "masterpiece", "genre defining" etc.

Maybe somebody will punch me in the face for this post lol, maybe some will agree, but based on what was seen, this is just looking to be a suped up Borderlands with a bigger budget and MMO experiences.

That's exactly what I'm getting out of it. It feels like what I might expect out of a Borderlands 3. And while that sounds great, it falls short of what I was expecting from Bungie. Still very excited, though.

It's just that your expectations were out of whack. They have always said the game would be exactly like the gameplay implies. No one has ever tried to sell this as the next Half-Life.

Here's a nice little interview w/ Harold Ryan about the demo with a few bits of new info.

Game is going to be sick.

Good stuff. I like the idea of this big world where friends or alternately, the matchmaking system behind the scenes has people dropping in. And the 'public events' that are not a required, scripted part of the game but can be bypassed/ignored if you're working on another goal.

What I'm most interested in at this point is how open each area is. The landscape really opened up on either side of the wall - to what degree to we go roaming/exploring? All the media seems to be teasing these huge landscapes to explore, I don't want that to be a cocktease.

Biggest worry right now is the combat. Demo showed both ADS and bloom, both of which I strongly dislike. But at least in the case of bloom, I mostly hated that in the context of competitive multiplayer play, which I don't plan to mess with. Reach's combat was great in Firefight/Campaign, it was only in MP where bloom really reared its ugly head. Visual feedback was not as strong as I had expected, but I did like punchy the weapons themselves were.

ADS though. :(

I can't wait to get my hand on this game, I loved the live gameplay footage especially the public event at the end.

Looking forward to it. Was always intrigued by Borderlands, but it never clicked with me for some reason. So Boderlandsesque gameplay in a more interesting world + some MMO elements + the smart phone integration + bungie pvp = must buy for me.

As much as I love Bungie, I think Destiny wasn't that impressive.

The graphics were okay but since it will be available on current-gen, it wasn't comparable to new titles exclusive to XB1 and PS4. Also, it just feels weird seeing all the "Halo-esque" subtlety behind the game design: Guns look and sound almost the same, animations are similar and enemies are very similar to Prometheans. Gameplay might seem fresh to some but I see this as a Borderlands with some dynamic Guild Wars 2 event system. However, I must admit it looks really fun. In addition, I'm pretty sure competitive PvP (if available) won't be as good because of how everything kind of looks loot-based. Which is unfortunate because Bungie is recognized for the simple, competitive and polished multiplayer. I hope everything turns out well as I have to try the game myself to decide anything on this game. Bungie is one of my favourite developers.

Game looks great. Have Bungie spoken at all about the competitive multiplayer? Itching to get a little taste. Slightly worried about how weapon upgrades will work though, it's going to be a trade off between having less customization with more balance or vice versa.

I'm tired of shooters, but this looked pretty cool. Art design was ace, the levels, weapons and characters looked cool and there were actually colors! Loved the lighting in some scenes as well.
The open event or whatever it's called sounds like a good concept too.

This answered one of my main questions: how open and explorable the areas are. Staten says quite clearly that the huge space on the other side of the wall is fully explorable, way beyond what can be seen, with multiple unique locations. The narrow passage through the wall and the skirmish on the others side is the tip of the iceberg for that space.

This game will consume me.
Any direct feed footage yet?

Check the OP links.

I wasn't looking forward to this game at all before the gameplay demo at the sony press conference, but m pretty pumped now mostly because of the borderlands vibes that I got from it

That's just a link to the onstage demo. Hoping they release a direct feed soon. Or even better that gamersyde does a 60 fps 1080p release.

I don't get how people can say this game looks bland and boring, then go on to rave about Titanfall. I don't understand the hype about Titanfall. The game looks like any other shooter out there, with the addition of mechs. In addition to that, the game did not impress me visually.

In my opinion, it was one of the worst looking shooters to be shown so far with its brown color pallet. When I saw it, I didn't think twice about it, only to go on Reddit and Neogaf to see people raving about it.

A little confused about the hype that game is getting, perhaps I should go re-watch the trailer, not like it matters though, there's no way in hell im buying an xbone.

EDIT: Just watched the gameplay demo one more time in 1080p. I'll admit, the gameplay actually does look pretty fun, however, I stand by my original statement of it not being the best looking title weve seen on next gen consoles. It's also too bad that it's exclusive to xbone....or did I hear somewhere that it's coming to PC? If that's the case, I'll definitely be picking it up for PC.

It's not the best looking title, but it looks good and runs well. Also, there were some new areas showcased that look much better (IMO) than the one shown at the conference. And yeah, it'll be on PC.

Wait, what? It was shown off at the PS4 conference, lol. It's not Xbox One exclusive. It'll be out for the PS4, XB1, PS3, and Xbox 360. No PC version has been announced, but apparently there's some slim chance that it will happen.

And yeah, it'll be on PC.
I'm 95% sure that hasn't been confirmed. I've heard that there's only a small chance.

Edit : Woops, you're talking about Titanfall.

I really, really liked what i saw. When they entered "the wall" i got some heavy Unreal 1 vibes. Might be the most interesting game for me this E3.

Just been watching everything coming out of E3 regarding Destiny.

The game really looks stunning, and it nice seeing the culmination of Bungie's previous works in Destiny.

Their exclusivity content contract with Sony ultimately convinced to get a ps4 and only a ps4 next gen.

I love Halo (although less these days) but I've always loved Bungie more.

First off, nobody was hyping this up to be "the next Half-Life 2." I don't know where you got that impression from. Secondly, why does a game have to be any of the characteristics in bold to be good? I hate the criticism of "doesn't look next-gen." It's a vague criticism that doesn't mean anything. What does "next-gen" even mean?

In the demo, there's an aspect of the game where you can increase "accuracy." Not sure what that means, but I assume it means shooting from the hip. Honestly, if shooting from the hip is just as fun as ADS, I'll be fine with its inclusion.

Looks cool and the ideal game for me. I love story and co-op and enjoy a little bit of multiplayer. Having a whole story and universe to explore that has been designed from the ground up to do so with a few friends sound amazing.

For me it looks like there will be plenty of wide open space and interesting playing fields, but I wouldn't expect it to be huge, expansive gameplay areas. I would guess at the area we saw in the demo being a typical mission play space, with firefight sized maps used for public play spaces. My suspicion is though there will be lots and lots of these playspaces, obviously split into different aesthetics based on the planet they are on.

I am into the progression models for player and guns / space magic./ they look like they have some depth to them without being overwhelming. I started playing borderlands 2 last night for the first time and I found the UI to be fucking confusing to get to grips with, Destinity's looks a lot cleaner, with less in it. Bungie have always been good at U.I.

The promise of mixing up the enemy types, with different AI and styles is really appealing. Halo 4 definitely suffered from feeling like you were fighting the same guys over and over again. I didn't realise destiny would have sub classes within the races so you will have even more variation as well as the mini bosses from time to time.

It will be interesting in what PVP / Competitive multiplayer they do. It all hints towards them doing a more traditional MMO PVP style rather than the Halo arena shooter, but Bungie are so well known for their Halo MP. I just can’t see how they would move away from the persistent player model, with stats and upgrades and loot, to do a MP where everyone is the same base class. It doesn’t really make sense. Personally I would really hope they do move away from the arena shooter but I am more of a SP / co-op guys anyway.

Looking forward to the chance to be involved in a beta, hopefully not too far away. My gues would be beta next May and release next November.

The environment art is pretty astonishing. The tone of the universe is also much better and preferable to me than what Halo ever was.

Too bad it's a FPS MMO.

holy golly people.

the pace of the game is "intended" to be this way.

You're supposed to live in this universe. not respawn every 30 seconds...
