Destiny Gameplay Premiere

Very nice, thanks.

It's so good to finally see shooting and aiming being on the triggers on the DualShock.

Why? Triggers are meant for pressure sensitive actions and aiming isn't like that. I never understood the idea behind using them as actual triggers. Especially the Dualshock's

Anyway the game looks decent. It's a mix of Halo, Borderlands and Mass Effect with a little Star Wars on top. It sure is pretty but I don't know if it's a 10 year game

The DS3 had shit triggers, so it didn't make sense. The Xbox 360's triggers were awesome, so it did make sense. This should now make sense in the DS4.

Still doesn't make sense for aiming and shooting. Like I said, they're pressure sensitive so they're better for stuff like acceleration in games with vehicles but I never understood the need for aiming with them. Shoulder buttons work the exact same if not better

Bungie used the sensitivity for some weapons in Halo. Well, one weapon i'm sure of, Plasma Pistol. One could release the charge by slowly letting go of the trigger.

Besides, guns have triggers, so it makes sense to use them by pulling a trigger. Feels good man.

If the weapons actually had pressure sensitive actions then it makes perfect sense.

Otherwise just don't feel it personally

So the triggers should never be used for things that don't make use of the pressure sensitivity?

I stopped liking Halo after part 2 but this seems appealing. Huge world, exploration, loot, varied environments, etc...Could be a much more fun version of borderlands which wasn't my thing.

Not what I'm saying, just don't understand why they need to be used for shooting other than the fact they're called "Triggers"

If i'm pretending to shoot a gun with a trigger, I want to use a trigger. It just makes sense. Why do you think they're shaped like triggers and called triggers? They're emulating triggers lol

Using a button isn't bad, but it's not as good, IMO anyway.

Edit: trigger trigger trigger

The location is much better for shooting, IMO. More comfortable to keep fingers on them instead of those bumpers. On 360 controller that is, i can't stand DS3... i hope DS4 will feel good in my hands.

Wha...? The plasma pistol works exactly like the Zeus pistol from Marathon. You hold the trigger to charge, release to fire. Works the same way with a digital keyboard key or an analog controller. The pressure sensitivity is incidental.

You can let the charge to dissipate to stop wasting energy. Or you can shoot it. Release trigger quickly shoots, very slow release dissipates the charged up shot.
Halo 3 onward only though.
Try it sometime.

EDIT there are other tricks as well, now that i think of this: Halo 3 onward for sure: Holding down zoom on sniper and then releasing the stick (or B if you use Green Thumb) will automatically de-zoom to previous level. In Reach, you can de-scope sniper by pressing Y even if you have no other weapons.

Well, they're triggers.

Guns have triggers too.

edit: I'd like to see Bungie run wild with pressured trigger mechanics if they're gonna make a billion different guns in this game. Give me a flamethrower that shoots the flame out longer the farther you pull down, a beam cannon whose beam's damage is determined by how hard you pull.

It's not an MMO. That much should be obvious.

A pseudo-MMO then, as i usually call it.
Hub-area, always online (the game requires internet connection), loot, coop, solo, PVP, levels and RPG-like progression, non-static player count (more people can join to public events), etc.
Close enough to an MMO for me, while not being exactly an MMO.

I'm glad i watched the interview video on gametrailers. i wouldn't have known it was more than a shooter. definitely got me interested in this.

And this is a negative how?

(I'm not asking sarcastically I swear)

ADS has a tendency to slow the game down, and reduce the mobility. Having to stop, lose a chunk of FOV can kill flow. On the other hand, it's an interesting decision to make in combat.

IMO, it's one of those things where the systems around it are more important than the mechanic. If the weapons are accurate enough from the hip, and ADS is mainly used to facilitate long range kill shots, I'm down, but if I'm running around looking down the scope of my SMG I'll be annoyed.

Haven't posted in ages, but this game looks very promising. My favorite new IP by a landslide, and one of the reasons I want a PS4 along with MGS5.

Can't wait for this to hit. :)

I have looked at a good amount if hands on videos and articles about the Dualshock 4. They all say that the triggers are great, but all they mention is that they are now curved. What about the feel of them though. Are they springy or are they clunky and "sticky" like the DS3's?

Each world is 2/3 of the size of Halo Reach. Holy fucking shit.

Wait.
2/3 of Reach campaign levels combined?

Hmm.
In my mind, i'm leaving out Lone Wolf (irrelevantly small), New Alexandria (flying mostly), and most of of Long Night of Solace (the space sections). EDIT i'm also ignoring the non-playable areas
*shrug*
Doesn't sound much larger than your typical largest zones in MMOs.
Most Reach maps are long and snaking, but they don't have that much surface area in the end.

Still looking forward to it but I gotta say I was disappointed by the gameplay. Looked generic as hell and just not fun in the way Halo was. I blame ADS.

The gameplay looked better than Halo even with Bungie developers playing on easy mode.

Pretty significant upgrade in size for a Bungie shooter, especially one that isn't an MMO in the traditional sense. For a sandbox shooter, that's pretty damn huge.

Your also forgetting winter contingency.

Evokes Santrap and Epitaph. I love it.

So I'm really excited about Destiny, but in a way that can't be shown in a "presentational, staged" demo.

I've played a lot of loot games, and the gameplay gets stale quickly. There's a reason progression is called grinding. Because most of the fun is focused on drops and new levels. Enemies in these games are dumb as rocks. Fun consists of seeing bigger numbers as you blow them up. It's not about out-smarting them or defeating them in some novel way.

Bungie hasn't had the luxury of getting you hooked on filling up bars. Bungie has mastered creating games that have tremendous replayability. And that's replayability that comes from the fact that gameplay is fun and varied. Nothing else. I didn't get an achievement for playing my favorite level over a hundred times. Each encounter has tons of variety from AI that's smart and unpredictable. And levels have tons of freedom. It's not just about "corridor vs open arena". It's about skipping the Tank and taking the section on foot. Or hijacking a Wraith instead of using the Hog.

I'm so glad this is next-gen so AI can not just be smarter, but they can have more options. (Current gen games are slamming against memory constraints. In Mass Effect 3, you can't even holster your gun because they don't have the memory for the animation).

Destiny looks like all my favorite parts of Halo: campaign co-op, massive Firefight arena battles and unbelievable scifi setting/ story. I get a company with a track record of games with tons of replayability, smart AI and respecting player choice. And then you add on a progression system that will add tangible value to replaying sections? Hell yes.

Although I'm looking forward to the co-op Destiny is going to offer, the fact that it also is very much playable solo and that there will be (cinematic/scripted) cutscenes makes me very happy. It's what I really missed in, say, Borderlands. Something combining the storytelling flair of stuff like ME/RE with the freedom of a semi-open world RPG is a dream come true. Looking forward to Bungie showing more of how they're going to handle this.

This imo was a terrible e3 reveal for an "mmo". The mmo player learned nothing at all, or any gamer in general. They explained nothing about how their game works... great job selling us! The division did a much better job of using a gameplay demo to illustrate where they are going with it.

All i saw was borderlands with more people. If i had never played an mmo i might think this was cool but alas i think most mmo gamers will pass on this and had a million questions... and got zero answers.

Man, this game looks like it will be so much fun to just team up with friends and go exploring. Couple this with, IIRC, Bungie talking about getting your own space ship you can customize and fly to other planets, and this game will be all I play for a while. Definitely helps that the game is a looker as well. As usual, the reaction in the reveal thread here was full of pre mature bashing so I'm glad that after a proper showcase of gameplay lots of people are really liking it.

They said one world was as big as 2/3 reach.
Implying that the others were smaller than this. But they have already announced 4 worlds and I would guess there is more to come so I don't think it's small by any means.

Sounds like the perfect system for me.

Have ADS to facilite long range kills.
Don't slow down the flow of gameplay by forcing random bullet deviation when firing from the hip.

Has it been stated anywhere what the lead platform is? I am assuming PS4 but it would be good to hear for sure.

Have you guys seen THIS?!

Thanks to a fella on the Bungie forums named nickgmon, he posted a video over 10 minutes long. It seem to be, at least from the description given, an alternative E3 trailer, with many new bits of footage and cool cinema like shots of planets we'll apparently get to visit.

Quality isn't the greatest but it's a damn great video.

Oh, excellent find! I'll add this to the OP.

Fucking brilliant, that music.

Man, I'd give just about anything to be in some sort of early access thing for this. Where's a Crackdown sequel when you need it.

Is there a source to download the stage demo without YouTube's compression?
