Destiny Gameplay Premiere

Haven't really gotten a chance to post but man am I ready for this game. I've been kind of lost as far as video game MP goes since Halo 3. I went from being on pretty much every night for at least a couple matches to maybe playing a MP game once every other week. I am really hoping this will be the game to get me invested enough to play daily.

Have you guys seen THIS?!

Thanks to a fella on the Bungie forums named nickgmon, he posted a video over 10 minutes long. It seem to be, at least from the description given, an alternative E3 trailer, with many new bits of footage and cool cinema like shots of planets we'll apparently get to visit.

Quality isn't the greatest but it's a damn great video.

Thanks for posting this. The music is fantastic! The locations are beautiful. Please release this soon!

I wonder if the Traveler isn't protecting humanity but is, in fact, keeping us contained. Maybe the reason why all these races want to wipe us out is because we were very hostile at one point.

I hope grinding for the best gear and levels isn't needed for competitive multiplayer. I don't want another WoW where I need to play for 100 hours before I'm competitive.

Also, the talent tree looked overly simplistic. That doesn't bode well for customization :(

Do we know how Space Travel works?

The idea of being able to fly from space port to space port makes me very excited.

During the Demo we saw Jason drop in from his ship, but there was no way he was in control of that thing, so at the very least we're not allowed to fly in atmos.

Trying to not let the hype get out of control.

Pre-ordered my copy on Amazon UK, game looks so much better than I thought it would when I heard the concept.

Between this, MGS V and InFamous, next gen can't come soon enough.

Damn, this game just looks so great. I'm happy to see the new stuff living up to the initial art materials released. I know it's an MMO, but I hope some of the single-player stuff is good too.

I don't really care about Halo, but what was shown during the Sony presser looked very promising. I'm intrigued! Looking forward to seeing more of this game.

I'm really hoping that "Point" has some UI elements for other players. I hope we can mark priority enemies, call for help, set up groupings, and point out paths without having to look back at the dude doing the emoting.

The dance animation looks pretty good!

Oooooh, a great theory! Maybe our safe-keeper will turn on us in the end with how much we're reaching out again.

Fully on the hype train. even went to buy a destiny t-shirt from the Bungie store, but $20 for the shirt and $30 delivery to the UK stopped me. Grrr.

You can let the charge to dissipate to stop wasting energy. Or you can shoot it. Release trigger quickly shoots, very slow release dissipates the charged up shot.
Halo 3 onward only though.
Try it sometime.

EDIT there are other tricks as well, now that i think of this: Halo 3 onward for sure: Holding down zoom on sniper and then releasing the stick (or B if you use Green Thumb) will automatically de-zoom to previous level. In Reach, you can de-scope sniper by pressing Y even if you have no other weapons.

Well I'll be darned, I never knew that. My bad.

im sorry but how can people compare this to halo ? as far as i know, this game has no story. imo you cant tell a great story with an mmo.

looks like bungies take on borderlands.

A pseudo-MMO then, as i usually call it.
Hub-area, always online (the game requires internet connection), loot, coop, solo, PVP, levels and RPG-like progression, non-static player count (more people can join to public events), etc.
Close enough to an MMO for me, while not being exactly an MMO.

I'm curious, what really necessitates this being online only? It sounds like Borderlands except you can run into other players randomly instead of through a lobby (like the multiplayer mechanics in Dark Souls). There might be something about this game I don't know, but otherwise it sounds like another case like Diablo 3.

No idea. It is what Bungie said.
I understood that it is a persistent world, one with some sort randomness system Bungie doesn't really control (public events?). If i recall correctly. EDIT what you said about Borderlands? You can run into them randomly? That's what happens in Destiny, if i understood correctly.
Gotta go through the videos and interviews again...

Well I'll be darned, I never knew that. My bad.
Most don't. It was mentioned offhandedly in some post/blog/article/interview/video about Halo 3 years ago. Works in Reach and Halo 4, though it is not mentioned anywhere.

Will it be possible to play this alone or will I need the help of others?

You can play alone but internet connection is required. The game is developed with co-op in mind though, i reckon there are things you cannot do alone, as with most MMOs.

Wait I thought this wasn't a traditional MMO where you see other players?

You can see them... when you're in public area (like the public event), it seems. Or perhaps you can randomly meet others.
But certainly there ain't hundreds of players on screen at once.
Bungie hasn't really told us much.

I'm loving these shared world shooters, Destiny and The Division look awesome. Teaming up with others to take on quests is far more appealing to me than straight deathmatch.

Another question, I already have Plus so I don't care, but since this game is always online, is Plus required to play it? Or only for co-op?

It's going to be required. I think that you can only get around using Plus if your game is F2P or if it's subscription based.

The game is always online game, regardless of how you play it. Presumably it is one of those games that are locked behind PS+ paywall, since only some F2P games seem to be exceptions.
EDIT we don't know for sure yet though. But i'd operate under assumption it will be behind a paywall.

This'll probably release in late 2014, won't it? I hope it somehow release spring 2014, because the wait is just gonna be too long. I want bungie goodness now lol.

it's activision, no way in hell they will put it up against cod.. spring 2014 seems the way to go

Ahh i forgot about that, then again, COD seems like it's being given as big a focus now. Idk.

EDIT - then again, one would definitely affect the sales of the other if released at the same time. Spring 2014 would be amazing then. It would go up against Titanfall.

The article bugs me. "Joe and Jason enter a hallway and summon a Ghost, a little floating machine that lights your way and makes snarky 343 Guilty Spark-esque remarks, because Destiny is basically Halo."

Or maybe because having an AI in a game is one of Bungie's trademarks? If anything, that's as much Marathon as it is Halo.

And the anime ads on that website are terrible. How is anybody so to take that website seriously?
