PS4 Has Fifty Percent Lead Over Microsoft's Xbox One, Says Strategy Analytics Survey

'fckn lool'

If MSs advantage is that Sony removed a major disadvantage,...I dont even know how to complete this thought...

I'm grasping at straws I know... but due to my pessimistic behaviour I can't hope for a lot of things
I would be VERY pleased to be proven wrong, and this truly does boost PS4s favour through this holiday and the years later

*Edit:
----------------------
By the way my posts where only about the US not the world... pshhh Sony would probably destroy MS in Europe and Asia ;P (not including UK)

I think by the end of this generation, PS4 will be number one by quite a large margin, Xbox One will be a distant second, and Krillin will be in a grave somewhere.

Makes sense. Everybody I know still thinks the XBONE is always online and has all the old restrictions.

That's quite easy to analytic the worldwide. I mean PS4 sell cheaper and more on countries than Xbox One.

US can be quite unpredictable I think. I do think PS4 will do well since its lowest cost, but it didn't do well for Wii U. Will shall see what happen then.

Analytics, not analysts.

Only one is based on raw data.

Yes. People need to understand the difference between projections into the future and descriptive summaries of data. The former is fraught with all kinds of uncertainty; the latter depends very little on interpretation and very much on sampling methodology.

6k is a sizable sample? Interesting then. I wonder if this will play true come launch. I just can't see Sony outselling MS by such a high margin right out of the gate. I guess we'll find out.

Talking to people I know, that 100 dollar price difference is making the PS4 look really good.
Same here.

Then it comes down to cross-game chat, party system and the controller. All of which seem to covered but I'd like to see more finalized details on the communication modes.

And while we've loved our times with Gears and Halo, they're far from monopolizing our online time, so that's not enough to keep us in our 360-based status quo.

Political polls intended to represent the U.S. population usually use a sample size of 1000.

If they sampled well, and they're a survey research firm, so there's no reason to doubt that they did, 6000 people is at least adequate.

Apologies. Based on only 6K people though? I assume PS4 has a lead, but odd that you can put a number on it already.

As others have likely said 6k is actually quite a reasonable sample for this sort of thing

More important would be trying to eliminate any selection bias

I.E. no self-selection bias and so on

That being said I doubt a 74 year old gives a rats ass about this so maybe they handled the selection bias correctly?

Still not sure why you wouldn't limit it to 15 - 45 year olds or so

Most marketing/sales analysts rely heavily on demographics

Seems to be supported.

Consider Amazon's top US sellers through 2012 (so far)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2013/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_bsar

PS4 = 3rd spot
XBoxOne = 6th spot

The Current top 100 US sellers are even more stark:
http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-video-games/zgbs/videogames/ref=zg_bs_nav_0

The PS4 holds the following top 100 positions (bundles included) vs XBOX one

4th: PS4 Standard
5th: PS4 Watch Dog
16th: PS4 Battle Field
23rd: PS4 Kill Zone Shadow Fall
51st: XBOX One standard

This is not going to be good...
I'm hoping for PS2 numbers again, which would mean amazing games *drools*

I think MS deserves to take a hit for their horrible messaging. They are being arrogant and need to be shown that if they don't give consumers what they want, then they wont buy. Simple.

Don't be surprised. When you don't have backwards compatibility, it's so much easier to switch platforms. If the Xbox One were BC, I wouldn't leave. Not even at $500. Not even with required Kinect.

I'm sure there is at least one more act to this circus before launch, but if they launched today I would expect Sony to dominate a solid chunk of a year.

Oh yeah. We still haven't seen MS give us the hard sell on Kinect.

And dammit, when do we find out if anything is changing with Gold?

I don't think MS subscribes to the "moreyouknow" ideology

Wouldn't be surprised if MS is still giving us "updates" on policies etc. right up to launch

I hope the difference between the Xbox One and PS4 won't be as big as some of the people in this thread are hoping it will be. I say this as a PS exclusive gamer who has no interest in the Xbone whatsoever. Sony like any other big company will try to fuck you over first chance they get. Let's not kid ourselves.

Once again the PS4 camera has entered the top 100 as well...36 days in top 100 overall now for it...the irony.

Yeah. I'm been thinking that as well. I'm sure MS realise how important it is to gain momentum and traction during the launch period and they must be getting telling information from launch partners on pre-order rates data.

Your move MS.

I believe that PS4 has a 50% lead with Neogaf members so I think he is correct. The normal guy buying halo or madden...I'm not sure yet. They lost me though after build conference.

The gap will close once knowledge on the DRM 180 begins to finally overshadow their initial PR clusterfuck. It's the only real reason (besides price) that the statistics would be this heavily skewed.

That's why Microsoft will be re-launching the Xbox One as the Xbox 180.

I still don't understand why the same people who are mocking/criticizing MS for proposing crappy policies are the same people who are mocking/criticizing MS for reversing those policies by saying "180" over and over.

There's still enough valid criticism to lob at MS without resorting to tired memes like "180" and "Have you seen Titanfall?"

It's unpredictable how the sales are going to go right now. You can also speculate that Sony momentum can even result in increasing the gap further.

Europe is hardly a surprise, but if PS4 beats Xbone in the US?

Ooooh boy...

Why would PS4 leading in the U.S. surprise you? Sony has led two of the last three generations in the U.S., the one they lost they came to a year late with a much higher MSRP. Now they're launching at the same time with a $100 lower MSRP.

U.S. consumers are fickle. They're far less likely to stick with a brand than any other region. It's all about the product's features and price. MS needs to get their shit in order if they don't want to see the U.S. get out of reach quickly this generation. Letting Sony have a $100 price advantage for more than the launch window will do just that.

Indeed... now for the full-circle irony at Gamescom, Sony should show actually interesting uses for it. Imagine if Sony's efforts with the PS Camera were more interesting than those for Kinect in XB1.

Of course the likelihood of this is about 0.1% but it would be a nice way to round out the irony. It is amazing that the camera is selling well enough chart.

That would be hilarious

Honestly would probably make me buy the camera as well

At least with Sony's solution you get some tactile feedback but that's for another thread

Remember when Jack Tretton sort of let out this little laugh after the Used Games Trolling K.O Segment?

Pretty sure he must be going for a full on

by now.

I'm sure there is at least one more act to this circus before launch, but if they launched today I would expect Sony to dominate a solid chunk of a year.

I think two things are yet to be revealed

1. A huge chunk of the first party line up for the PS4. Gamescom, TGS will be interesting. Sony played it relatively safe at E3. Basically one new second party game iirc. SSM, ND, GG etc all have new titles yet to be revealed.

2. Launch dates.

Yeah, I think even if Microsoft were to make people in America forget about how awful the Xbox One reveal has been, there's no way they can attain victory this upcoming gen. They no longer have a year headstart or a price advantage; and they're significantly less powerful. Kinect is already old hat on the market, so making a system around that feature was a dumb idea (in fact, they should have never released it on 360 and just saved it for the One, to "surprise" the market out of complacency). Their price all but ensures they can't even perform that well in the UK either, which was their other fortress territory this past gen.

So even if Xbox One magically battles the PS4 to a DRAW in America, the gap in the rest of the world will essentially guarantee a Microsoft slaughter next-gen.

1. Totally agree. Sony has quite a few studios unaccounted for and I imagine we'll get some reveals at gamescom, not sure how much at TGS though

2. PS4 Launch Date: 1 week before X1 :P

I think PS4 camera game developers have an advantage over kinect devs because they KNOW how many people are in their potential user base, whereas with kinect it looks like a bigger user base but how many are tucked behind the machine covered in electrical tape never to be used..or never to be used for gaming...hard to budget a game id imagine for them.

Edit: I'm not saying ps4 camera games will outsell kinect games

I actually have always thought that the fidelity of Move + some decent body tracking could do what Kinect has failed to do so far.

The downfall of Kinect is it's emphasis of hands-free control. Ironically enough that actually limits how much you can do with it. They will now be trying to alleviate that with hybrid controller+kinect schemes, but the fact that you have to hold the controller with both hands to use it makes Kinect rather cumbersome in that setup.

Having a 1:1 device on one hand, plus a navigation control on the other, plus some body tracking could be really good. Imagine Ryse if you had complete control of the sword actions with 1:1 precision and the nav control for movement, and the body tracking for dodging and other special inputs.
