MS has no realistic path to victory IMO.

its like the console version of Obama vs Romney 2012:

Sony doesn't need to lead in the U.S to win.
Sony doesn't need to lead in the U.K to win.
etc.

we could repeat this Gen from A-Z minus MS's 1+ year head start and Sony would have a 10million lead in the end.

MS is hoping to bring in a different audience, as nintendo was with the wii. (sorta).

That's their path to victory. That people who don't play games will pick up the Xbox to control their television like a voice activated smartphone.

Games are secondary.

I'd say 50 sounds closer to reality; I expect Sony to sell about 25% more units than Xbox One in its first year. It's a prediction, of course, but it's accounting for 'coming back to the home planet' now that Microsoft changed policies, and also the general public finally tuning in during this holiday's marketing blitz and deciding to buy an XBO.

Edit: In North America, that is! The rest of the world I expect Sony to massacre Microsoft.

I was being a dick :), that does sound right - hopefully anyway.

Although the pricetag might be just enough for people to consider a PS4, even with MS's advertising budgets.
And if a kinect+NSA news story gets a lot of attention word of mouth might sway things considerably.
I get the feeling people are just trying to buy as little as possible, any excuses to justify saving cash, even if they don't take them fully seriously - it sinks in.

In the UK, I think 360 sells better than PS3 slightly. However I predict PS4 to destroy the Xbox One mainly due to price. Here in the UK Xbox One is £430 and PS4 is £350. Also a lot of FIFA and COD (best selling games in the UK) casual gamers, hate the idea of Kinect.
 
Honestly expected given the way E3 went. It's up to Microsoft to show the value of their product and why consumers should choose it over the PS4. Launch won't really tell who will be this generations winner or loser, there are way too many variables involved to come to that conclusion now, yet it seems some already have. One thing for sure, Microsoft needs better PR people, although their messaging does seem to be improving from the Adam Orth, Don Mattrick period.
 
I just wish both systems would come out at the same time/week/day/month.

That way nobody can argue the "well it is only winning cause it came out first"

I agree...I think Sony worked hard on WWS this gen and definitely deserves the number 1 spot again...

But I don't take these sales projections and predictions without a huge grain of salt. Games and experiences are the only things that will decide the gen, and so far, it's fairly bland from both sides...

Will be supporting PS4 early March...but this gen is still very much up in the air. Good start from Sony, but that's about it I think...

I agree with Sony "massacaring" Xbone worldwide. In some countries, like where I am now, big retailers aren't even stocking Xbones at launch. I asked them why and they said since the country isn't part of the 21 supported ones, they're wary of it not working at launch and angering customers. Can imagine the same happening elsewhere.
 
This is what happens when a company thinks they know better then the customers and try to write the wrongs that they made andnit maybe to little to late for the xbone maybe next time they make a system thats more a gameing console with extra features instead of a cablr box that plays new games triple A games only and has to be one all the time if they did that theynwouldnt have to run damage control before the launch
 
Are people really that surprised by this? I mean, even after the Xbox 180 the PS4 has been crushing the XB1 in momentum. It's like people have never seen a console transition before. Most gamers are not very loyal to console brands. The fact that Xbox did better in the US this gen doesn't give it some sort of claim over America next gen.
 
Not suprised. Just from casual observation you can figure out people aren't excited for Xbox One. Wreck-it Matrick...wrecked xbox next-gen.

When that lead happened, was it less than 4 months before elections? Because next-gen consoles are right around the corner.

It will be very interesting to see if they can take some of that fanbase over.

That market is gone and never returning. Most of that "different" audience has moved to mobile and tablet gaming.

I'm a bit surprised PS4 is leading by that large a margin in the U.S, but not actually surprised it's leading here. Did figure X360 momentum would keep MS closer to Sony in the polls than this, but that being said...

What sample group did they use for the poll? What was the process? How did they determine if people were leaning Xbone or PS4? Did they even factor that?

I like playing devil's advocate in these things, hehe...

Jesus Christ I hope not; I mean I understand the financial implications of that, but I really wanna see COD (and FPS) take a back seat this next-gen. I know it won't happen, but I can dream it will.

Plus COD definitely won't be the mega-bucks franchise for next-gen. It's never happened that way. No big 3rd party franchise has ever been top of the pack in sales for two consecutive gens. So it's only a matter of what series will supplant COD for that spot this gen.
 
I would love for the PS4 to crush Xbox One in sales...just for I can haze the crap out of Elpresador about it. Life's simple pleasures.

I do too.

I'm not entirely ecstatic about the CoD community, but I'd welcome them over to the Playstation with open-arms. I think we'll be seeing a ton of them come over. The included headset helps quite a bit and, by nature, CoD community is very "dude-bro". They aren't fans of Kinect.
 
It's going to be interesting to see if XBL fans and subscribers will be willing to cancel their subscriptions, hop on to a new service, and start from their friends list all over.

Yep - they really should have just done what Nintendo does and PUT THE SAVE FILES ON THE ACTUAL CHIP THAT THE GAME IS ON!

Have it cloud sync on top and no-one would have really cared about the memory card prices.

But Sony shot themselves in the foot (again) - their best bet imo would be to have a PSVita/PS4 bundle sometime next year when they have their first (minor) hardware revision for the PS4 and major revision for the PSVita and bundle a game or Plus or something...

Or even better, use the PS4 bundle to clear out the old PSVita stock and then have the new hardware revision for the Vita (We all know there's one) take over at a reduced price point and with a month free of Plus and a 4gb memory card. Would work wonders for them if they marketed it right.

Generally, I think the downsides of unilateral dominance outweigh the upsides at both macro (console) and micro levels (e.g. EA having an exclusive hold on NFL games).

I hope Sony is rewarded for their good decisions this time around, just as I was pleased to see them suffer market setbacks after rolling out an expensive, developer-antagonistic console with the PS3.

Similarly, MS deserves to take their lumps for any of their ill-advised decisions. It's not about taking sides or brand partisanship or any of that nonsense, it's simply good for the adaptive evolution of the industry.

In that light, these numbers aren't surprising. Among the general Joe Blow public, I actually think MS will do quite well in the States, but the hardcore early adopters should give Sony a definitive edge in the early going (maybe 60-40?).

It will be fun to watch it play out. I'll do a shitty job of practicing what I preached above, because I fully intend to buy both consoles at launch. I *should* punish MS for shoving Kinect down our throats alongside an underpowered console, but they have games I want to play (yes, I suck).
