Is the Valkyria Chronicles series dead?

Why not try bringing the franchise to PC? Japanese development on PC is a little behind, but Sega is no stranger to Steam. Feels like a series that would do well there.

Well yeah, there are a couple of stragglers, like Phantasy Star Online 2, but those are the main focuses of Sega Sammy in terms of "major intellectual properties" in the Amusement Center division. It's all about streamlining around profitability, and Western IPs have made Sega a lot of money.

Everything else is small / smartphone-related / relatively low budget (like a vocaloid game).

The Vita Miku game was very high budget IRC. I remember them actually complaining about the vita version not really being profitable(despite it selling around the same amount as the previous entries).

I'd love a Sakura Taisen X Skies of Arcadia X Valkyria Chronicles cross-over. Never happening :(

As a side note, this is what Sega is currently doing with the franchise videogame wise: http://valkyria-duel.hangame.co.jp/lp/

Lots of plot in there.

Currently the teams/studios who were handling it are working on Shining games with similar mechanics instead.

On a similar note, are we ever getting Shining Force 4?

Yeah, yeah, I know, Camelot. But is there really no one competent enough to make SF4? I mean, its not like those games were super complicated. And SRPG's seem to be pretty popular lately with X-com.

I could only imagine this on PS4 in some fashion. Shit would be so gorgeous and play like a dream. I bet they could incorporate the touchpad in a decently meaningful way too.

Best thing they could have done was release a sequel for PS3. Sega doesn't know what to do with anything successful they have.

It's been as good as dead to me since they decided the sequel should be a mission-based PSP game. It could've been something special as a franchise, but Sega happened.

if Bayonetta 2 sells well, Nintendo and SEGA will team up to make Valkyria 4 on Wii U.

I have to believe in something

Do not speak such things!

But yeah, series is more than likely dead.

Try to remember the good times you had with 1 and the ehhhhhh moments of 2.

Sega doesn't have the Warhammer 40k license does it? I was really hoping someone would apply those mechanics to a franchise like that. The mechanics is the real star here.

If I could play VC3 in English, I'd play it on ios!

It'd be over $120 to experience the full game because if IAPs but at least it'll be finally localized!

There's a group working on a fan-translation.

But that requires a modded PSP and an imported copy of VC3.

Dont see why it would be, VC3 sold twice as much as the shitty shining game using the engine. and god knows they will never stop making those. the fact sega didnt localise VC3 doesnt really say anything beyond psp being dead in the west and VC2 deservedly selling poorly, they havent announced Yakuza 5 or PSO2 either and those are hugely successful and on viable platforms and will both undoubtedly get further titles.

The series certainly hasnt been forgotten anyway, they're extremely busy giving Selvaria a cameo appearance in dozens of games they run. At least her outfit and hairstyle were welcome in PSO2

The best hope I think is for that kind of game to be popular and easy enough to develop on next gen console to merit bothering with, and who knows how that'll go at this point. That or they move it to 3DS.

There's that rumor that Sega is trying to buy Atlus. Maybe if that happens, Atlus can develop VC4 after P5!!!! /wishful thinking

T__T
I'd rather see Atlus either do their own thing (Radiant Historia is an example of this) or at least stick with MegaTen. Buying them only to be a development house for their neglected RPG series would just be disheartening.

Yeah, Atlus deserves to focus on their own franchises.

But Valkyria Chronicles had so much room to grow as a franchise IMO. I don't know how good the 3rd one was, buy I liked the first 2 a lot. I don't want it to turn into Suikoden. :(

And yuck @ that pic posted earlier, I know that the VC series has always had fansevice-y artwork, but I don't want it to turn into some iOS hentai bait. D:

VC4 for PS4. Such an awesom announcement would eclipse everything else that this year has delivered so far.

Unfortunately, the franchise is currently among the ranks of Jet Set, Skies, and many other Sega franchises. Dead for now, but maybe not forever.

Though I might prefer dead forever over getting the Breath of Fire 6 treatment.

if Bayonetta 2 sells well

Welp, might as well abandon all hope now. :(

Yes it seems so. Personally as long as it stays on handhelds it is dead to me.

I think Sega should port it to the PC to be honest. I think the series could find a nice home there. I know I would rebuy the first one if it ever found its way to Steam or GOG.

This, I really want to see VC ported to PC with a level editor or unit editor.

It was dead when they moved it to PSP....I thought it sold close to 500,000 surprised that was considered a disappointment given how niche it was
